His game is the same as yours. The awesome planes in his screenshots simply look like that because the colours he used were very bright. The other skins have the colours more subdued and pastel for more realism. That being said, your skins are still great, upuaut!

Awesome work! Can't wait til they're up for download.

Yea, there's nothing saying we can't have both. But some Sabres didn't have them at all, particularly most of the Korean War Sabres. So if a Korean War Sabre skin is made, then hopefully it will be possible to also remove the dive angle markers.
-
Those lines above the canopy are not for shatter. They are sense aerials; a part of the ADF navigation system. Indeed they should be there instead of the dive angle markers, but perhaps we'll have an option to turn the dive angle markers on and off.

I don't know about you, but when I make tracks of the MiG, sometimes it really does seem to zoom and maneuver at impossibly low speeds. Sitting at 110 knots? No problem, it'll keep going up. Not to mention it rolls great at any speed. This is obvious from about 40% of the tracks I've recorded. AFAIK, these things don't make sense even for a MiG-15, especially the roll rate. That being said, the other 60% of the tracks are the more recent ones where I'm learning to fight it well so its UFO climbs are less obvious. I've attached screens here of a MiG in a positive G climbing turn while gaining speed. The 3 screens are taken one after the other. In addition, the famous EM plot Boyd did on the F-86 vs the MiG-15 shows that the MiG, at low altitude (most likely between 1000-5000 due to the high turn rates) can only hit 6.8 G's at around Ma = 0.55 which at 5000' is 411 mph. In many of my fight with him though, he will easily hit 6.8 G at ~340 mph above 7000', which I can also post. So unless I'm confused with the validity of the EM plot somehow, the MiG is turning too tightly and defying physics in general. Luckily, he makes some mistakes in terms of maneuvers so I can still shoot him down regularly :) EDIT: I've got plenty of tracks to attach if you so please to see them.

Also, there's a placard limit in the plane for flap and gear extension at no more than 187 knots. I think the flaps are unaffected by this for now.

Amazing. This will probably be my primary skin.

Yea I have no idea how people thought the MiG got easier after the update. It flies exactly the same for me. Just had 5 attempts now and ran out of fuel every time. Good practise though.
-
You're correct, I don't have TrackIR and I don't see it in my budget anytime soon. That's why it's really important for me to keep icons on. So far I haven't been able to get a kill that fast again. Second fastest time was 13 mins.

Hey Jocko, I sense a Golden Hawk in the near future. Am I right?
-
I played today before heading downtown and I found that the MiG was still flying the same as before. Rockets into the sky, tonnes of energy, and I'm out of gas before I know it. I keep trying and by the 3rd attempt, I'm holding energy better, and finally at the 5th attempt, I shoot him down in under 5 minutes! I thought I was getting better but if everyone else says the MiG got easier, well I don't mind that either. I attached my track, so you can compare how the MiG flies. 5 min excellent MiG-15 kill.trk

Did they change how the MiG flies? And here I thought I was getting better :P
-
Hehe, then you'd love the P-51!

Wow, that looks great!

The only thing I don't really have are climb rate or time to climb graphs for the MiG. Sadly the only graphs I have for the Sabre for time to climb are for a slightly heavier F-86F-40 with drop tanks which obviously climbs badly. Moreover, it is this data which is often quoted as the Sabre's time to climb. At any rate, most of what I see on the internet quote the MiG's max speed at sea level as 668 mph with one book source claiming 693 mph. The hard-wing Sabre is almost always quoted as having a 695 mph top speed. Climb at combat weight for the MiG is often quoted as 10,080 - 10,100 fpm at SL with the Sabre's varying from 9,300 - 9,600 fpm. The best piece of pictoral evidence is this energy diagram. I have been looking high and low for a source but sadly, I cannot find one. I have a blurry jpg of the diagram and a clearer (but non-English) version (which I cannot for the life of me figure out how to attach because wikipedia makes direct-linked pictures tiny as crap) as well. Original: Clearer, Japanese version: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Energy_Maneuverability_diagram.jpg You can see for yourself where the planes each have their strengths. I assume this diagram is at or near SL with combat weighted (~50% fuel) airplanes since the turn rates are so high.

Ohhhh trust me, he's got epic flying abilities. It can keep climbing, rolling and pulling 1.5-2 G's at less than 160 mph even after it's turned hard. It's all in the track. All I've been doing is trying to fight the MiG and recording everything it does. But it's a WIP, so don't worry. Although I know it's frustrating. MiG UFO 2.trk

Unfortunately, I don't think we can get the full picture from just that image. It shows how lift works for a 2D airfoil but a 3D wing is different, especially if it is swept. The Change in centre of pressure of the wing with relation to the CoG and wing sweep of the F-86 must be taken into account. If the centre of pressure moves ahead of the CoG sufficiently or if the lift increases enough while the CoP is still ahead of the CoG, it can create a moment due to the increased lift, causing the pitch up. But actual calculations have to be made. I'll see if I can find more info. All I know is that the F-86 borders on unstable in the pitch axis. Thus it stands to reason that pitch up can further increase AoA in a feedback loop.

Lol what..? The compass simply needs to be moved from the top to the side. I don't think anything can be chaotic by only moving a single part from one spot to the other, particularly if it's in the way of our view.

Let's put it this way: we're like airshow pilots flying P-51's, F-15's, Su-27's, A-10's and F-86's in Georgia. That isn't realistic, but it's certainly physically possible. That is the premise of DCS world, isn't it? A large playground of different, awesome planes being flown by random pilots. But in this world, we can shoot each other and blow things up at will! So why would there be a G-suit limitation in a world where airshow pilots fly many different planes? Take the F-15 pilot. He flies the Sabre, and the MiG-15 and the A-10. He's not going to suddenly change to bad equipment. Although, like Sith mentioned earlier, maybe in some missions, there will be a G-suit restriction when we want Korean War missions.
-
Excellent shooting! I'm going to watch this video over and over again and adjust my mission to start at low altitude so I don't have to waste time getting to the fight. 2.5 mins per kill is a world record. Just one thing, be careful of your G's pulled. I think you reached 7.5 G at least in the second fight. After this game hits full release, that may warp your aircraft structure.
-
Ah yea, well there's more work to be done on the MiG as stated before. Soon we will have our revenge! As others say though, it's not impossible to kill them. Problem is, I'm getting too impatient to fight a MiG for 30+ mins straight just so I can make him leak fuel and oil. And on top of that, he still never runs out of gas
-
When I was taxiing at Batumi, I opened the canopy and when I looked down, there was this fixed line which seemed to show the grass underneath the airport textures. I've only noticed this in the Sabre, although I've only tried in the Sabre as well. See the attached images.
-
Yes, I noticed that as well. I lost a tonne of MiGs from that darn compass ;)
-
A bit off topic here, but those diagrams you posted also seem to show that the windshield frames are markedly thicker than the one in-game right now. But a Beta is a Beta. And what a fantastic one it is so far!
-
Pretty sure he just means that the F-86F can out turn the MiG under 30,000' quite easily, although it isn't quite enough to help him win the fight.
