  1. The only real difference is the fire rate of 1200 rpm vs the M2's of 850. Funny thing is, in our pre-manual, it erroneously says the F-86 has M4 guns. I don't think I have the gun glitch though. Sounds like the P-51's guns to me.
  2. Oh, derp. I am a noob at this. I didn't even realize you could count the hits while in-game. I'll take note. Ok, I hope this track works, because the last time I played a track, I was flying an F-15 and in the track, my plane pretty much just crashed into the ground even though I know I obviously didn't do that in the game. This leads me to believe that tracks aren't recordings, but are a simulation of what you actually did in the game. EDIT: Okay, the track works. And just so you don't have to watch the WHOLE thing, the two bursts that cause damage are at 10:04 and 10:11 in that timer in the bottom right hand corner. So just fast forward to those times. First MiG kill.trk
  3. Darn, really? Maybe it's just the fuselage. Both times I shot him down, I focused on the wings. After 2 short bursts, he was in flames. Of course, it took like 20 mins for me to get the 2nd burst in. Perhaps I should add a track? I don;t know how though.
  4. It's probably your stick. It might be broken? I have the same stick and no problems.
  5. I think this is correct. The SFM plus the smart AI means perfect trim, no overheat, no over-G and probably less realistic maneuvering. Although AFAIK, the MiG-15bis bested the F-86E in most aspects. Below 35,000', it's all F-86F. At high altitude, the MiG's performance advantage is especially true. Below 35,000' the Sabre will have a significant maximum turn rate advantage. At low altitudes, the MiG's climb and acceleration advantage are still there, but versus an F-86F, it is much less pronounced, while the F-86 is faster and turns better. Keep your maneuvers nose-low, reserve energy and you can indeed follow the MiG in one of his climbs. Don't just yank your stick to get lead every time you can. Wait for an opening and just deny him a shot. I just shot down an excellent MiG-15 twice in a row. It's all about patience.
  6. The F-86 is nowhere near that fast. Should be ~599 knots = 695 mph for our hard wing version. I'll take a look at the loop entry speed if I can find it in my documents, but it should be faster than the MiG's.
  7. This is probably just an interim thing. LABS and the missile system do not work so it stands to reason that weird things like this will happen for now.
  8. Wow that is a weird glitch. I didn't notice this. I think the nose wheel gets locked in the last position you had it in.
  9. Nosewheel steering is activated by pressing S by default. You must hold it to steer. The steering right now is difficult because if you steer in one direction and let go, the wheel stays in the last maximum position you steered in so you have to steer in the opposite direction until the nose wheel is centered. The flap selector is supposed to jump. The way the flaps work is to drop them down, you move the lever all the way aft and hold it there until the flaps are in the desired position. Then the lever is locked in the intermediate position. To put the flaps up, the lever is held in the full up position until the flaps are in the desired position. Of course for flaps full up, the lever is locked in the up position. So AFAIK, these aren't bugs. The missile system however is not complete yet so any bugs there are likely a product of that part of the game not being complete.
  10. I noticed there are some bug threads popping up already so I'd like to try to conglomerate them here. But before we go on and post our bugs here, I'd first like to thank Belsimtek and all their hard workers for getting this excellent F-86F Sabre Jet up and running for us. I think I speak for everyone when I say it's a beautiful and enjoyable module thus far. Thanks Belsimtek! I know that DavidRed was asking in another thread about the lack of a server.lua file which he wanted to use to adjust his FOV. Also, Stratrekmike stated something about Freetrack not working for only the F-86F module. The bugs I have so far are as follows: 1) Pitot tube as mentioned in another thread 2) Transonic handling/Supersonic flight inability For 1), I posted in another thread that the pitot tube should be bent like in the middle diagram below. No straight pitot tube was fitted to a 6-3 hard wing F-86F, so the one in-game is wrong. For 2) I've done some reading and I noticed a discrepancy between my research and the game. In the game, as you speed up all the way to beyond Mach 0.97, you have to trim the nose down. Seems fine right? Well research tells me (shown below) that as the plane approaches Mach 0.9, this standard trimming down stops and the plane has to trimmed UP because of the shock patterns forming on the wing. After about Mach 0.91-0.92, it needs to be trimmed gradually down again as the shocks move aft on the top of the wing. The picture showing this is attached. Sorry for the bad quality, I took a picture from one of my books. In the figure, the plane is trimmed for Mach 0.6 and is accelerated past Mach 0.93 to show the stick forces necessary to keep 1 G centripetal acceleration. Finally, I noticed the plane cannot be dived past Mach 0.98. It essentially just stops accelerating. I tried diving from 35000' and at around 10000', Ijust could not pass 0.98, though I've read everywhere that the Sabre can just past Mach 1 and was indeed the first fighter to dive past Mach 1. EDIT: Spelling, I accidentally some words.
  11. Just took it up for a spin. Great fun, and good job Belsimtek!
  12. Perhaps you saw an F-86H. Some of them have hard-wings with the fence but also the 12" wingspan extension and the straight pitot on the other wing. Either way, none of those wings were on the F. Our's should have the bent tube.
  13. The pitot tube is supposed to be larger and bent like on the early slatted-wing sabres. The straight tube didn't appear until the slatted wings came back with the wingspan extension. Here is what the tubes looked like (our aircraft is the middle one):
  14. Such disappointment. You'd might as well be that last girl at the bar.
  15. I'm just a nerd.
  16. Don't you worry about the A4 gunsight's many intricacies. When all is working well, you just have to aim, press and hold a button and release. The radar does all the work for you. All the complicated parts are used if the gunsight fails because the predecessor, the A-1CM gunsight, often broke and Hughes didn't want to take any chances when building this one. And indeed, sometimes it broke as well. I don't know how this will be modeled in-game. Perhaps if you get shot in the right place, out goes your AN/APG-30 radar or maybe some gyros will break.
  17. Absolutely stunning! I'm saving these to the HDD. Although I'm still hoping that pitot tube will be fixed before the Steam release in August.
  18. Wow, ok. I suppose it is more reliable than I had thought. Thanks!
  19. It never occurred to me until recently, but how does the A-10C A-G gunsight know exactly what the terrain elevation is for the GAU-8? That is, how does it so perfectly adjust for the terrain so that it can tell the pilot where the rounds will fall? It has no radar, so there are no radar reflections from the ground to detect. I would assume GPS makes no sense because it isn't perfectly accurate and it would need a terrain database and location to give the aircraft data. So I am left to assume some kind of laser-reflection from the pave penny does the terrain detection. Just guesses, but no real answer.
  20. Ah, I FINALLY did it. Turns out a quick calibration in Windows is all it took.
  21. Yea, sadly no matter what I do, I have to oscillate the stick up and down. I can never have such a small input as to keep the plane at a level attitude. :(
  22. He's not talking about the hard wing Sabres. He's talking about the F-86F-35 which is what we have. Not a single one of those were in the Korean War, but as I stated above, externally, the plane is identical to the F-86F-30 which did see war action. Also no F-86A's were converted to 6-3 configuration. Only E's and early F's.
  23. Well, damn. I'll have to invest in a new stick then... or get reeaalll good on my current setup.
  24. This is correct. The F-86F-35 and F-86F-30 variants are so incredibly similar though, it would be absolutely no problem to simulate Korean War combat with our model. Just don't use the missiles. Externally, the two planes are essentially identical.
