  1. I recommend watching this video from a younger Steve. He gives a brilliant explanation on the topic.
  2. Ah yeah I also use the OXRTK, still do, especially when I am tinkering with things. I currently have full overlay with FPS and frametimes turned on to see all the numbers. So that was the second big reason. I also like the sunglasses adjustment in there and some color/saturation things that I adjust to make things look a litle less DCSish. I used to use 3Dmigoto but that mod really ate a lot of fps.
  3. Other QVFR things to try: 1. Smoothen_focus_view_edges =0, should give a nicer transition. 2. Turbo_mode=1. See if this gives a better performance. but there are some drawbacks. https://mbucchia.github.io/OpenXR-Toolkit/other-features.html#turbo-mode
  4. With QVFR I can get OBSmirror recordings and see OpenKneeboard inside my recordings. The other way around this does not work. Or at least it did not work when I configured it about a year ago
  5. Yes I have that bug too. It means that about half of the times when I start up DCS the resolution inside DCS is very bad. It is very noticeable inside the pit, but inside the hangar it is not easily noticeable. I just restart DCS again and again until it works. Will check the numbers when I am behind my pc.
  6. I upgraded my 5800x3d to the 9800x3d. It is FANTASTIC. In case anybody is interested, I will keep track of my own benchmarking and further optimizations here:
  7. I took the plunge and upgraded from 5800x3d to 9800x3d. If interested, I will keep track of my testing here.
  8. I updated my hardware with amazing results. Hardware installation I kept my PSU, PC Case (Thermaltake Core P3 Open Case without any Fans), SSD's with W10 and DCS and just put them back in. I did not want to reinstall Windows and redo all my applications and settings, which would cost me a couple of weeks. First I made backups of my data and made some screenshot of settings and looked into activating W10, in case this was needed. CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer III 420 Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX X870E-E GAMING WIFI Memory: G.Skill 64GB DDR5-6000 New results A-10 Quick Mission Normandy 'Weapons Practice': 90FPS flat. I just see 3 flat lines in the DCS performance overlay. app CPU 1.7 ms rdr CPU 5 ms app GPU 10.5ms Steps taken Updated BIOS, cleared the CMOS Updated Chipset drivers Updated GPU drivers Ran Driver Booster to replace some of the drivers. Cleaned up some of the software, removed stuff I did not need anymore. BIOS Enabled X3D Turbo Mode (disabled SMT) Enabled ReSize BAR Overclocking: Enabled PBO Positive +200 Curve optimizer -20 Still to do Enable EXPO (my RAM is EXPO compatible, but PC won't start when it is enabled). Increase DCS Visual settings, soo much headroom now. Increase Quad View Foveated Rendering settings to get closer to the native resolution of the Varjo Aero, which is on 39 PPD. Current parameters turbo_mode=0 peripheral_multiplier=0.45 focus_multiplier=1.2 horizontal_focus_section=0.29 vertical_focus_section=0.33 smoothen_focus_view_edges=0.2 sharpen_focus_view=0.6 Play with increasing RAM speed, it is back on automatic. (4800Mhz now, want to go to 6000Mhz). Tried some settings, but Windows became unstable and I had to reboot the nasty way. I lost my VoiceAttack user file in the process. So I have to reinstall some shortcuts for my radio controls, scratchpad, video shortcuts, Openkneeboard etc. No biggie, it will cost me a couple of hours to figure it out again. Will add my \AppData\Local folder to my backup regime. Run benchmarking
  9. I reinstalled drivers before and am only doing light overclocking. But thanks, it is solved now. My audio was playing parts. Am now using a USB connection to my DAC instead of the toslink. Buttery smooth now. I can't believe my eyes.
  10. 4090. I did the bios update and cleared the CMOS. Still no joy. Maybe it is audiocard driver related am going to look into some of the peripherals
  11. Hi 9800x3d here too, Rog Strix x870e-e, G.Skill 64GB DDR5-6000. Only did a HW update, left the SSD's with software the same. Installed new drivers. Only in VR I also notice some kind of stutter, if you can call it that. Visually it is not very noticeable. I do see it appear slightly in the DCS monitoring chart (the horizontal darker white lines on the CPU chart. It sounds like a small crack that I hear about every couple of seconds or so. I hear it both in the pit and in the menu. When I hear it, I see the impact on the DCS monitor chart. It appears as a darker white line on the top chart. Is your stutter only a visual stutter? Will go through all the good recommendations that were given above.
  12. Too bad.. Will wait.. patiently for any update.
  13. Really interested in the performance differences between the 5800X3D and the 9800X3D. Currently my rig in VR with the 4090 is CPU bound with a 5800X3D. Moving to a 9800X3D would not only mean a new CPU, but also a new board and while we are at it possibly new RAM, new CPU cooler and new SSDs. So for me it would almost make more sense to just build a complete new rig. But only if the difference in performance would be big enough.
  14. Yeah same interest here @Rlaxoxo. Currently my rig in VR with the 4090 is also CPU bound with a 5800X3D. Moving to a 9800X3D would not only mean a new CPU, but also a new board and while we are at it possibly new RAM, new CPU cooler and new SSDs. So for me it would almost make more sense to just build a complete new rig. But only if the difference in performance would be big enough.
  15. Okay yeah Life happens to all of us
  16. Nice find! Thanks for sharing. Did you by any chance create any missions based on it? Our wing moved to Kola, so wondering if there is something we can use as inspiration.
  17. Really a shame that developers and vendors don't care as much as we do. What is that real gaming industry you are talking about? I hope you will have a much better time there than in XR. You will be sorely missed bud.
  18. Updated DCS to 2.9.6.57650 and experienced this strange eye tracking effect. Uninstalling QVFR solves it, but I need it in order to record my videos to the fullest capacity. More info plus a workaround in this thread:
  19. I was looking forward to the announced performance increases because of AI changes and was pleasantly surprised by a fancy looking loader. But unfortunatly I also ran into this issue (Aero here). Turning off QVFR and reverting to other eye tracking software for me means impact on my recordings. This would definitely have been caught during the testing, if the release was tested with this configuration, which I think is currently pretty mainstream. I previously understood there were enough VR testers so maybe it was caught and impact was accepted due to time pressure. If things like this get spotted during the testing and get pushed to production, could they also be pointed out in the release notes? That would have saved me a load of time, headscratching, restarting, reinstalling, looking at discord, recording a video to post the bug and finally coming to this thread. It anyhow is dissapointing to see mbucchia's earlier notifications and instructions falling on deaf ears. Any ETA on the fix?
  20. Just looked back at some of my earlier videos. Really liked this one. AAR at night without NVG's and an ILS back into Nellis. Tacview in the end of the video. Unfortunately my kneeboard was not being recorded at the time.
  21. Thanks! I hear you constantly playing with the power setting, which is absolutely necessary as well. I also lower my seat a bit before hitting the tanker, to have the whole boom in view in the front window. I caught myself bending forward to look below the canopy rail and was hurting my neck. Not sure if this is the same in 2d. I usually have my seat up a bit higher just to be able to comfortably see the heading tape in the bottom of my HUD. For AAR I adjust my seating.
