Stupid question alert for Aero users: Will the Aero give me better performance than the G2? I am not talking FOV, but frequency-wise. I am running the G2 now on 60Hz without motion reprojection and without foveated rendering. Could I get something better looking out of the Aero in maybe a bit higher frequency and have dynamic foveated rendering switched on? I saw a video online and could not tell the pixelation.

I can fly a couple of maps at 90FPS at 90Hz as well, if I run them in SP. The issues start on our MP server, where the CPU-impact causes stutters, mostly around our base and target ranges. So in order to stay at 90Hz I started reducing resolution and eye-candy almost until it became horrible. It still was giving me some stutters though. Now after MT and after downscaling to 60Hz most of the stutters have dissapeared, but the strobe has appeared. I must honestly say that I still hate 60Hz, but I am starting to get a little bit used to it. The issue for me I think is that I have been getting used to the 90Hz for a couple of years (was always flying in 90Hz with motion reprojection on my 3080) and downscaling to 60Hz really shows a big visual impact. It sorta reminds me of going back from a 1080p monitor to an interlaced CRT screen. My added complication is that I not only want smooth visuals inside the G2 without motion reprojection (because of artifacts, wobbly lines in the VR kneeboard and watery effects near the canopy) but I also don't want foveated rendering (because that looks bad in the videos) and I want a smooth recording in 4k. This makes it almost impossible at the moment to achieve.

I prefer smoothness over higher visual settings. Un-smoothness (if that is even a word) breaks the immersion for me.

OpenXR Toolkit Frame Rate Throttling So I did a couple of tests yesterday. I put the hog in a wheel, overflying a city in Syria just over the rooftops, looking over the wing towards the houses a couple hundred feet below. G2 set to 60Hz (I know), OBS set to 60FPS. the DCS status bar is spikey but Inside the headset visuals are smooth; I see the houses flashing by crisp and clear. When I enable frame throttling and bring it down to 60FPS, the DCS status bar smooothens out, but the houses start stuttering. So throttling has a negative effect in this case. Turbo mode has no effect in either case. Stutter in OBS The strange thing is that the OBS recording of these tests stutter, no matter what I do. I tried OBS recording in simple mode on both high quality and indistinguishable quality. I have no idea how to get rid of the stutters. OBS is running as admin. I have no render or encoding lag. It seems that there is some kind of data loss between the headset and OBS. could that be the case? This was a very clear test case to see the difference in visual quality between the headset and the recording. Still to try some further messing around with OBS: Advanced OBS recording settings; CBR - bitrate 60.000 - encoder NVENC H.264 instead of HEVC, preset Quality. I will look into this some more. I ordered another SSD for my OBS recordings. So I have 3 SSD's, one for Windows, one for DCS, one for OBS. I don't know if this helps. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

When I run it I sit in a hornet going straight and level, overflying a bunch of boats and then some land. Nothing happens. Is that the plan of this track file?

Agreed. I have been using the same track file for 100+ tests so far. My difficulty is running a trackfile that accounts for our server's busy stuff. This is currently messing with my performance on the ground, but this clears up when airborne

I agree things got better with the MT patch and the shadow fix in the latest OB-update. I will be tinkering with settings everytime a new update comes around there is stuff to work on. Be it a driver update, DCS update etc. I do notice a shift in balance between tinkering and actual flying, which is fantastic.

90Hz in the headset and frames limited at 60fps gives me bad stutters. Don't understand why this could ever be smooth. Because whenever below headset frequency there is some stutter. @edmuss could you please maybe inject some knowledge? My reference is our Multiplayer server, where I am CPU-limited. If you have a trackfile for me to run and compare, I am interested to see the actual difference in performance. I ran at full settings as well (cloud, visibility, shadows all at max), but turned things all the way down to slowly start upping them again where I think I need them. I am not using foveated rendering because it looks crap on my videos. I am always recording in 4k as well, which takes up some resources. I see you have clutter/grass enabled, visibly I see no difference between ON/OFF. Will see if I can limit my GPU power. Haven't done that yet.

So I have been running 60Hz for a couple of flights now. The visuals are way better, once I get through the strobing. @edmuss I think I will get used to it, thanks for all the explanations. I have to reduce some of the DCS settings since I am combining with OBS recording in 4k and I mainly fly Multiplayer, where our server still makes me CPU-bound, mostly on the ground. Latest Changes G2 headset frequency 60Hz OpenXR Tools - Custom Render resolution - DISABLED OpenXR Toolkit Upscaling - DISABLED Foveated Rendering - DISABLED Turbo Mode - ON (Still have to test the difference between ON/OFF) Frame Rate Throttling - 60Hz (Thanks @Thunder Cat) Shaking Reduction - 20% (used for stabilizing OBS Recordings) Override Resolution - NO Motion Reprojection - OFF Sun Glasses - DARK (to help with the 60Hz strobing) DCS Multi Threading ON System Settings - See attached OBS - Currently trying to remove all stutters. OpenXR Guide - Deprecated - This time for real (▀̿Ĺ̯▀̿ ̿)
Ready replied to nikoel's topic in Virtual Reality
Fantastic thread -
Okay will do. Big thanks as well for sharing all your configuration details with me. Much appreciated! I will try-out the following; Enable Hyperthreading - I have SMT, it is enabled by default. Set bios curve optimizer all cores -30 Set Process lasso and reboot. See if it works. EDIT: This division is giving me bad performance on other parts of the system. I am recording and OBS is having seizures. So need to adjust. Gigabyte performance boost - I did some OC on the 3080, before but did not touch the 4090 yet because I wanted to wait what others would find. Will give it a go, I think settings depend on individual system specs, can't copy yours I believe. NVCP Global Set Power Management Mode to Max Performance Increase Shader Cache to 10GB NVCP DCS Texture filtering - Anisotropic sample optimization OFF Texture filtering - Negative LOD bias ALLOW -> UPDATE: It creates aliasing, will set to CLAMP Texture filtering - Quality - UPDATE: I set it to HIGH QUALITY Threaded optimization - OFF Vertical sync OFF - UPDATE: This is for flat screens only. I ignore this one. OpenXR Toolkit Foveated rendering - I also don't use foveated rendering because on the recordings it looks ugly. FSR: I had it on 80% before and also had resolution override on. Edmuss advised this to me. I switched back when I was tinkering with other things. Will go back to it and see how it goes. UPDATE: I tried it, as well as the resolution override. The visuals get very grainy, almost like a screendoor-effect. I am reverting to without FRS and upscaling. OpenXR Tools for WMR Custom render scale - I leave it at 100 for now Motion Reprojection - I can't live without reprojection. I used to have it enabled when I was using a 3080, but it is giving me too many artifacts and makes my kneeboards unbearable. Windows Security exclusions - I have these set already. Device Management High Precision event timer - DISABLED

I Think I did that, but only made my PC less responsive it seems. Am doing something wrong probably, which is why I ask for the 5800x3D specifically -

5800x3D here as well and used to use Process Lasso. What should I do to make it work?
