I was hoping for a MT miracle. But that did not happen. Ofcourse there is an improvement, which is great, but I am not getting the improvement I need to have 90FPS everywhere to keep it all great without Motion Reprojection. Haven't flown on our MP-server yet, where I used to be CPU-bound all the time. Hoping the difference is bigger there. Anyways, so I will now start experimenting with running the G2 at 60Hz, which was my backup plan. I restored my render resolution back to 100% and increased some visuals, since there is some overhead available. Did a quick flight and bit through it. Visually it looks sharp and crisp. My eyes are bleeding from the 60Hz flicker, the OpenXR-Toolkit sunglasses help a bit. I hope I will get used ot it and that the combination of MT and 60Hz gives me what I need to get both stable visuals inside the G2 and in my recordings. I will give it a week and will fly a sortie or two and decide.

Did a quick flight on SP. Thus far I notice a small improvement with MT, but am getting some stutters as if every 10-20 seconds there is some quick loading going on. It is not yet what I was hoping for. I hope the difference on our MP server is more pronounced.

Very curious with the latest OB update. Will definately experiment so see the impact of both Multithreading and the Shadow Fix. New items to take a look at, as advised by Torden: 1. MSI utility v3 to increase GPU Interrupt Priority. 2. Core Parking (not sure if this will help with DCS's current way of using cpu). https://bitsum.com/parkcontrol/

Yes I have similar experience on our own MP server, albeit a bit better FPS, but still very noticeable impact. My FPS sometimes just drop from 90 to 45, sitting still cold and dark and looking around to certain areas on the base. When we have flight night it is worse, especially with a couple of AH-64's in the air. This is why I currently turn my render resolution way down to offload my CPU, which still gives me an acceptable experience inside the headset. The custom render resolution is also an easy knob to turn.

I agree it is not the way, but it is currently the least bad choice in order to get both acceptable visuals inside G2 and in my recordings. I used to have Foveated Rendering on when I was using a 3080, but I disabled this because when I look back at my recordings it looks horrible. Inside the headset it is okay, but on screen it is bad. Will give Turbo Mode a try. I might reintroduce FRR, but not sure if this will give me a big noticeable improvement performance-wise.

I am currently using native Open-XR. I have things turned down because I mainly play in MP and if I keep things at 100% it is a stutterfest when I have Motion Reprojection OFF. I need MR turned OFF, because otherwise my OBS recordings show crazy stutters. So it is tricky to find a balance where things are good inside the headset and inside the recording. I sometimes lock my frames at 55, but I mainly do this at places where my FPS is close to 55. When I fly SP I have it disabled because this gives me more smoothness.

Made some further adjustments trying to get both stable view inside the G2 and in the recordings. - Reprojection OFF (having it on gives smooth view inside G2, but heavy stuttering in recordings) - Custom render resolution 50% (lowest I can stand inside the G2) - FPS locked 55 to stabilize - OBS NVENC AV1 Encode, Remuxing to MP4 for Resolve - New version of Jabbah's OBS Mirror (champ!) - Using Fred's OpenKneeboard

I have G2, see my setup in my signature. I am having stutters without MR because I can not everywhere reach full frequency. Many places I have 90FPS now and that looks okay, maybe I then still have the microstutter you mention, I am not sure. But in places where the FPS drops because of CPU impact, I see hesvy stutters. Even with 60-70 FPS. I see the most stutters when I fly low in the hog, look over my wing and do some quick wing rocks. What do you mean by setting world scale and fov 'correctly' in the toolkit?

Yes @mbucchia responded on the discord that he was also thinking along those lines and not sure if anything can be done. I have no idea how to further troubleshoot this. All I can do is run some tests with various configurations and visually see what happens to the recording. To me the difference between MR on/off in OBS is clear as night and day. I do see the stutters also appear in the OBS mirror on the desktop while not yet recording.

Motion Reprojection -> OBS Stutter Reprojection was giving me stable views, but was causing a very bad stutter in my OBS recordings, so I turned MR OFF again. Somehow hardware encoder and reprojection are fighting for CPU resources, even though I am not getting any encoder lag reported inside OBS. Custom Render Resolution 50% In order to crank up the FPS and get the frametimes as low as possible I turned the custom render scale all the way down to 50%. which is the visual limit I can stand. Instrument texts inside the cockpit get a bit blurry, but still readable and my performance is much improved. I know this is a very low render resolution, but I have not seen CPU bound messages yet. Hoping the DCS CPU usage improvements will become available soon.. Discord memory clock impact I came across this posting regarding Discord impacting performance. I made the adjustment in Nvidia Profile Inspector. Not sure if it was effecting my setup and did not test before/after. Better safe than sorry.

Just tried a run to our MP target range and unfortunately can't get my visuals stable without motion reprojection, even when lowering rendering resolution to 80% and turning off all anti-aliasing. So I am back on the MR juice. Have to accept all the artifacting and wobbles, which is horrible but still way better than all the stutters and shimmers that I get otherwise.

I came from a 3080 and always had reprojection on. I try not to use it anymore to get more clarity, especially when using kneeboards.

I seem to have no problem with my G2 without reprojection. Don't know what is happening. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/313901-my-4090-vr-performance-optimization/?do=findComment&comment=5139790
-
Maybe it is possible with command line https://mbucchia.github.io/OpenXR-Toolkit/cli.html
-
Just did the OB-update and got presented with the OpenXR-Toolkit configuration menu. Just read that ED now includes OpenXR natively, without any notification or instruction beforehand. Read about other users being heavily impacted because of this and having to switch off reprojection in order to be able to use DCS again. Luckily I already have reprojection off. Did a quick test and I seem to have no noticeable impact while running the track file. I do however see an impact on my server, but not sure if this is related.

Just ran a quick test and I am considering lowering my custom render scale for a while to 80% without upscaling and see if I can get used to this. Instruments are still fine, sharp and readable. Of course this gives me a lower resolution, but also gives me about 10FPS extra and 90FPS in many places without reprojection. I think I prefer flying with a lower resolution over trying to get used to the 60Hz (which I tried a couple of times and quickly failed). Anybody else tried this?

I see the biggest difference in FPS. Stupid me used to have MSAA x4 and tried to keep it there, which was okay when I was using reprojection. I categorize MSAA as non-essential eye-candy and in my quest to get the best visual performance without reprojection I have MSAA disabled. To be honest I can tell when it is disabled, but mainly by looking outside at vertical and horizontal lines while at the ground and when I see cities in the distance, where I see shimmers. Inside the cockpit on the instrument panel I don't see much of a difference.
