  1. Thats all very nice but then I can say proper EW use and your sam crews cant even talk to eachother and will hear christmas tunes trough their headsets. You are now talking real world but we are considering a sim world. They would have to go a very long way to have an entire operating air defense network where players can man different stations with decoys and all kinds of other bells and whistles. I don't think anyone thinks SAMs or other ground forces in a proper operation are just sitting ducks. If there would be a DCS M1 like someone suggested in this sim world he is a sitting duck. I am not saying it wouldn't be interesting or that you couldn't make fun scenarios with it but in a MP scenario with airplanes, those will have a dominant role. This is also true for a DCS SA-9 even if they have fancy gadgets, after he turns on his radar for the first time his position is known and everyone is coming for him. Look at DCS BS and FC2 compatibility, its evident there already, if you go fly on a server in your BS you will not even notice anything and then suddenly you are a goner. Driving around in an M1 would give the same idea.
  2. It would be sooo boring in a tank. You sit there, waiting and waiting until BOOM, you get blown up by a maverick. You never saw anything but you sure are dead. It sounds appealing but the reality is you need a lot of players to make it interesting and with lots of players it will become a mess. You'll inevitably end up with something like arma which is too arcadish. A flight operation might take 1 or 2 hours, ground operations take much much longer if you want realism. Who is going to spend 2 hours driving somewhere only to get pounded by the avenger cannon, a vikhr missile, or any of the other tank busting weapons the pilots would be able to use? So then you can say, well we can have player sam sites. That would be totally boring too. Sitting there staring at the same screen for an hour, then eat a HARM. You see, two A-10 pilots would be able to take out a whole company of player controlled tanks without a sweat. The only use I see for it in multiplayer is the joy you get from actually killing human tanks instead of AI. The players in ground vehicles would be pure cannon fodder for anyone lucky enough to be in a airplane slot on the server.
  3. I think this a a well thought-out deception. They are trying to put us on the wrong track. Everybody knows the next module WILL be DCS: UAZ. Cant wait! In/deflatable tyres, 4WD AND rear or forward drive mode, fully analog working 6DOF driver cabin, fully modelled clutch system and, there is a hybrid version included as a bonus which you can charge from ground crew units on airfield!. I mean forget about A10, this is what you really want!
  4. Thats a bummer I thought you were serious. :P
  5. lol, I don't have any wedding plans materializing but I think you'll start dancing soon enough once you open that package.
  6. 47.5x26.5x35.5cm, gross weight 10kgs, net weight 7.7kgs :)
  7. Guys if you want cheap screenies you should go to asian bulk sites. They have cheap stuff and they have lots of it :) These sites function as a gateway between mainly chinese manufacturers and the rest of the world. You can find everything on it. For 100 bucks you get 7 or 8 inch USB screenies. Touch or not touch, whatever you want even 3D if you want, with integrated tv tuner, if you can think it up they will have it, you only have to search a bit and try to stick with suppliers that have some status (like a gold label) Like: http://www.alibaba.com/product-tp/110559319/8_inch_Mini_USB_Monitor.html http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/312178448/7_inch_Mini_Slim_Touch_Screen.html http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/282374904/7_TFT_LCD_USB_monitor.html http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/346990948/5_6_Inch_TFT_LCD_Monitor_LCD_TV.html http://www.ecvv.com/product/1984720.html http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/351660665/7_inch_car_TFT_LCD_monitor.html http://www.ecvv.com/product/2094108.html http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/315898577/car_Headrest_desktop_7_inch_TFT.html < cheap touchscreen A lot even have free shipping. Ordering higer quantities will get you significant discounts EDIT: lol, after reading this thread fully, I don't think I am adding anything..
  8. You can even push the microsticks!
  9. No I don't mean mic switch down, I mean pushing the mic switch down Like pushing it into the housing. This is directx throttle button 2.
  10. I've tried to find a nice PTT, I like throttle button 2, push down mic switch, the best of the unused buttons. In fact it works so well I am starting to think it was designed to be PTT. Like the slider on the throttle is almost like it is designed to control zoom.
  11. Check this movie for f-35: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbnWg4v6iHk explains hover mode and bomb deployment interface (kind of), its point and click, really sick. also good one, about DAS, apparently it can shoot backwards... WTF about radar.
  12. I bet you that the axes are not setup correctly. DCS will assign standard axes to every controller so you have to remove those from both the stick and the throttle tab. (or virtual controller if you use target) You see, target doesnt map axes, you have to do that yourself in the in-game GUI so your problem of not finding it in target is completely understandable. You NEED to setup EVERY axis in DCS GUI. The rudder problem you get because DCS maps rudder to one of the throttle axes by default. I don't know which slew you try to map but on the stick it has no hats which are an axis, the throttle has 5 axis, so if you try to map slew axis to a normal hat, that wont work. Why don't you try the stock profile that comes with target? I tried it yesterday and it works pretty nice. The print option doesnt work yet btw whether you create a custom profile or use a stock one. I think the best option for mapping the shkval slew to are the microsticks. You have to give them a lot of curve and reduce y axis saturation or it will be uncontrollable. If you set it like in the stock profile it gives accurate control.
  13. Now that I think of it, I think I also needed to manually remove the cougar from the device list before doing the reinstall in vista comp. mode. Because win7 installs something for it that is not correct and it conflicts with the real drivers.
  14. No dudes you've got it all wrong. The china hat is called the china hat because it is red, and red is the color of communism. In the A10A this was called the Sovjet hat but it has been renamed for obvious reasons. EDIT: It is also referred to as the Osama hat among pilots deployed in the middle-east.
  15. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Mons Nothing to worry about then, would be plenty of f16s left :P
  16. -Ability to print briefing from mission briefing screen or at least have the text copy/pastable. Probably already suggested once but 169 pages of suggestions is a lot to read up on.
  17. I had the same issue, it also said device detection error, also under W7 64 Ultimate. However, when I uninstalled, unplugged, then reinstalled in vista comp. mode (I think I picked SP 1 instead of 2) as admin it installed fine. Before that, I already had it working with TARGET so you might try that. The only problem is that you cant use your old profiles (as far as I know) so thats why I persisted on getting foxy and the control panel to run.
  18. Throttle button 1, which is pushing down the slew stick, is also free. edit: mic switch push down is also free.
  19. Really I dont understand it. How can all of you who have a hotas warthog not have posted countless explosions of joy!! How can one only say: "Yeah its really nice". I have just flown a couple of hours and when it kind of started "clicking" I had the tears in my eyes man! This is to good to be true. Only flicking the APU switch already got me completely in the zone. Sliding those throttles to maximum for take-off, its like you can feel everything now, you are connected to the plane, you are one with the simulator! It is so accurate you can make very very slow rolls very accurate and consistent. Pulling the trigger reminds of pulling the trigger on a real gun. They say there is only one thing better then sex and that is supposed to be heroine, I tell you, now there are two things better! I understand why some of your wives have trouble with you buying this. Its not because of the money, its because of the competition! And if you rationally look at it she couldnt be more right. It has a lot more buttons, the microsticks are very similar, it only makes noise when you touch it, when one part gets pissed you can shut it down and continue with the parts that are still ok, if it doesnt go where you want it to you can trim it AND you can blow stuff up with it. Well you do the math for yourself, there is only one right decision: GET THIS THING! Female objections are invalid as per the above and if you don't have the money it is worth the risk for jailtime if you try to steal one. Ethics need to go completely out of the window for this one. I think that this is morally permissable if you are flightsimmer :) Like it is morally permissable to steal food when you are about to starve. It is that essential. You must have it.
  20. Serial #: 02700 Location: The Netherlands
  21. Half an hour ago: Doorbell.... Running down the stairs, taking big box, signing paper, running upstairs, unboxing!! Don't have time to fly this afternoon but.... Can't resist to tell everyone how cool this thing is even when it is unplugged! I've only had a stock cougar so compared to that I notice a couple of things right away: Its big! The bottom plate of the stick is like A4 paper format. The throttle is HUGE. It doesn't look that big from the pictures, but it is! I can barely reach the china hat with my thumb. Throttle: With my cougar I always had to apply a certain amount of pressure before it would move and then it would move too much, past the AB detent it tended to "fall" into full AB all the time. With warthog the throttle moves smooth as hell, moving the throttle up and down is really an impressive experience! Cougar feels like intercourse without proper foreplay, Warthog feels like well.. the opposite :) Stick: Where with cougar you always feel the centers of both axes when you move the stick around, with warthog you feel nothing. There is no change of force required if you go further off center and wherever you move it, it feels the same. It's sooooo smoooth!! I guess you have to feel for yourself its really two different universes. Can't wait to go fly tonight! Also have troublesome news, at least for my country, because I got the last one from the shop I bought it and their next shipment is only coming December 10th and this is the same for multiple shops. I don't know if this is global and the first batch is sold out or something but just thought I'd share what I've heard.
  22. I bought one too, I bought one too!! And its coming tomorrow.... Wooh!
  23. I understand it of course because I have played many falcon campaigns. But I just thought that specifically VFW's would be looking more for realism so wouldn't mind trading the campaign for more realism. I always had the idea they mostly fly controlled scenarios. There is already random mission generator now. Its a step.
  24. This is up to the missionbuilder, and it is not hard to implement at all. What is it with all the falcon 4 campaign love.. Especially as a VFW I'd say you can get much more value out of a designed mission instead of a random sorty trough a wall of migs that quadruples once you get close to it. I think DCS offers a lot of value for VFW, including commander positions, artillery and JTAC positions. The editor has the ability to create very complex scenarios. For training sessions you can monitor everything from bank to altitude to speed and much more for evaluating student performance, all trough mission editor design. Additionally as DCS series grows, you get more platforms your VFW can use and maybe eventually... dynamic campaign. A thing that would really be cool in DCS to add for a VFW is something like a World Master position, a guy that can add and adjust AI live into the mission. *Forgot to mention: Falcon FM is childsplay compared to DCS.
  25. Thanks for this. Watching the falcon intro again made me feel good :)
