  1. I believe I have found a bug associated with selecting steerpoints with the HSD cursor and the TMS-up action. It appears this can only be done in EXP1 mode; this feature does not work in the EXP2 mode, as demonstrated in the attached track file. In this simple mission, there is a single steerpoint (#1) near the airfield. I create a markpoint using the TGP, which becomes steerpoint #26. I then switch the HSD to view both steerpoints and subsequently attempt to select them in EXP2 mode. Note that the active steerpoint on the DED does not change while I use the HOTAS TMS-up action. If I switch to EXP1 and attempt to select them with TMS-up action, I am able to cycle between them as intended (i.e., the active steerpoint changes on the DED). This does not work in EXP2. Is this behavior correct or intended? Thanks in advance! hsd_exp_bug.trk
  2. Absolutely love the FM tuning and recent FLCS updates. Please keep up the great work, ED!
  3. My R3L doesn't make that noise. I would email RS support and ask for their assistance.
  4. I'm having this issue too. The task bar/communications/do nothing trick did not work for me. I would prefer to use Voice Chat, but the volume reduction bug is sending me back to SRS until this is fixed.
  5. I've been testing OpenXR for about a week now based on the settings in this guide. I'm extremely pleased with results. I'm now able to run full high settings in DCS with msaa x2 enabled, the exact same as in 2D pancake mode. With the increased graphics presets, my visuals are also better and sharper thanks to NIS upscaling (77%) and sharpening (70%)--the default settings I was previously using from vrperfkit. I started with a custom render resolution of 100% at first, but I'm finding I can run 150% with NIS enabled and still maintain smooth frames. Given the number of DCS players using WMR headsets via the G2 and legacy G1, DCS would benefit tremendously from native OpenXR support.
  6. Huzzah!
  7. Thanks for keeping the Hornet faithful updated, BN. We appreciate your help!
  8. I would love a mini-update on the Hornet! However, they mentioned some good stuff in the November update. I think I can be patient while they focus on Viper and Apache.
  9. tl;dr: Hornet has better SA tools, better avionics, and a more capable radar. Much easier to fight smarter in the F/A-18C. Also, the kinematic advantages of the Viper don't have as big of an effect in BVR against skilled pilots. Most fights will drift into WVR ranges after both pilots have notched the first missile. Inside 20nm, the Hornet is a stone cold killer--especially with best-in-class nose/AOA authority. The Hornet also typically has better endurance (but not range), which is often more useful in DCS multiplayer servers. Finally, the payload options are just better with the Hornet--and it gets the SLAM-ER (which is amazing).
  10. I only have a few hours in the Hornet after the last patch, but my subjective qualitative assessment is that the jet feels less draggy than before. More data needed, so take that with a healthy bit of skepticism. So far I like this Hornet better. It definitely sounds better, that much is certain.
  11. What's the latest on the SLAM-ER? I think it was previously mentioned as coming with the big 2.7.0 patch, but the latest information suggests it's simply WIP and not necessarily coming soon. No worries if it's delayed. Just curious where it stands. Thanks!
  12. Get the F/A-18C. It's better than the Tomcat and Viper.
  13. In that case, I highly recommend the DCS Debrief BFM Guides (now with the Air Warfare Group). As the author of that series indicates, there's no magic formula for winning BFM contests. However, the videos do a great job of introducing the terminology and concepts needed to maneuver relative to the bandit, identify turning circles and align/misalign them when needed, find and pursue the bandit's control zone, manage your energy state, avoid the bandit's weapon employment zone, and use lag/pure/lead pursuit geometries to pull the bandit into your HUD. Bottom line: against a bandit flying the same (outstanding) aircraft in BFM, the pilot that can best exploit geometry and physics will win (most of the time). Watch the videos. The author did an outstanding job; truly high quality content.
  14. BVR or WVR? Need more data about the type of fight and your typical flows.
  15. Has anyone noticed an improvement since the latest patch? The patch notes didn't seem to address any of the concerns in this thread.
  16. My squadron mate and I did some additional testing tonight in a multiplayer environment. The radar is consistently dropping tracks in RWS, and the TWS performance is degraded as well. I even dropped a TWS L&S track this evening in a high aspect situation where the target was WVR inside of the HUD area. It was bad enough that we both switched to the Viper for the rest of the evening. Very hopeful ED can reproduce these issues and address them quickly!
  17. What's the consensus on the Hornet FM right now? What's left to tweak?
  18. Update from my previous post. I appeared to be one of the few that didn't observe the subject radar performance anomalies, so I went back for more data with a more careful eye. TWS behavior appears largely okay, but the L&S track does drop more frequently now when in RWS/LTWS. I spend most of my time in TWS so I didn't really notice it at first. Nevertheless, I think folks in this thread are definitely on to something and it's important for the ED team to check it out. Thanks for the update, BN!
  19. Check and see if any of your peripherals were auto-mapped to any of your flight control axes. If that doesn't solve the problem, hit the paddle switch to disable autopilot (just in case it's kicking on for some reason).
  20. Definitely haven't noticed that. Used the radar extensively last night in both RWS and RWS. Works great and without the bugs mentioned in the patch notes. Could you post a track file or be specific about parameters and context?
  21. Strongly disagree. I have a great deal of stick time in the Hornet, Viper, and Tomcat; while I'm a fan of all three, I definitely prefer the Hornet in PvP A2A. Newer players find it easier the leverage the kinematic advantages of the Viper, because it takes less skill to just throw on the blower and fly high and fast when fighting in BVR. It takes more time to develop the confidence and familiarity with the Hornet's more advanced radar and SA tools and leverage them properly in a fight. Once you figure it out, though, the Hornet is surprisingly lethal and not to be underestimated.
  22. I was sad to learn the community ranked it so low in the recent roadmap poll (#10 IIRC). Even the current SLAM is crazy effective, and the -ER will make the Hornet even more enjoyable and lethal.
  23. Would love an update on Hornet plans, especially given the pivot to fixing bugs and the unexpected attention given to the Viper in the last Friday newsletter. Timeline or schedule isn't necessary, just a "hey, these are the Hornet updates/features in the oven right now." :-) If I recall correctly, the next items ostensibly under development were GPS coordinates display for the TGP screen and additional submodes for the AG radar. Is it reasonable to expect those next?
  24. Markpoints will be wonderful, definitely agree. If they can add GPS coordinates to the TGP, which they were ostensibly almost finished with, that will help a bit until markpoints are added.
