Rockets take a lot of practice! I miss the HUD and CCIP from the Shark everytime I fly the Apache. The hard thing is holding the target cross on the target while moving the helicopter to align the I beam. Try putting the I beam on the target, then moving the aiming cross over the target to set the range. And practice practice practice.

Can't the gun compensate the movement of the helicopter?
Mad Dog 762 replied to dextor's topic in DCS: AH-64D
The gun is a bit of a disappointment if you are used to the gun in the Shark. But, the Shark has a high velocity 30mm that is limited in traverse, so its a more stable, flatter shooting gun. The gun on the Apache is a much lower velocity gun and its on a rotating, shaking, mount. It is really an AREA weapon. I think of it more as a grenade launcher than a gun. It helps if you get in close especially if you are using the helmet as a sight. -
Resolution of Cockpit Displays, does it do anything?
Mad Dog 762 replied to The_Nephilim's topic in DCS: AH-64D
I am running my cockpit displays at 512 and they are very readable in the Apache. I turned them down from 1024 because I was trying to improve frame rates. Honestly looking at your specs you need a better video card to run that G2. -
I have flown the Ka50 quite a bit. Wags had said this would be the easiest to fly helo in DCS and its for sure not! I am still trying to figure out the best control and trim setup but this thing is a monster. It takes a ton of pedal at take off, and if I can successfully make a (very ugly) takeoff and get into forward flight, as soon as I slow back down below 30 knots or so I get what seems like a Tomcat trying to go into a flat spin. Its almost like none of the stability control systems are actually working.....

I have had trouble with it wanting to go backwards when I pull pitch. Even shoving the cyclic all the way forward wouldn't stop it going backward. I think I have something wrong with controls or trim.

not planned Can I choose not to carry the M4 in the cabin?
Mad Dog 762 replied to HappyVoo's topic in Wish List
I am sure someone could make a mod. I don't think too many people are going to be that put off by the M4 although it does block the view a bit. -
They are taking pre-orders now. Pop over there and get signed up.

I wouldn't think Wags would spend his weekend doing AH-64 videos unless it was coming very soon.
-
In one of the rocket videos Wags said that at early access we will just have a few "pre-configured" choices and won't be able to assign zones ourselves. Thats coming later.
-
You have this confused with VTOL-VR.

I think the release of the manual means its coming very soon, and if Wags doesn't have all the vids done we have the manual and can figure it out ourselves.

wip CPG George...available commands? How flexible is he?
Mad Dog 762 replied to AvroLanc's topic in Wish List
I am familiar with modifiers and switches, but not how to use a button press as a switch to change to a different layer of commands. I am used to using a physical switch or a modifier that you have to hold down. That is what I am curious about, the button press as a switch. -

Mad Dog 762 replied to AvroLanc's topic in Wish List
Yeah, I know that, I mean how do you set it up so the center press toggles between the two different command sets? Is it a general toggle that affects every button, or is it somehow specific to that button. Thats the part I could use clarification on. -

How do you set it up for that? -

I am wondering about this too. I hope "George" isn't just sitting up front reading the latest issue of Playgirl unless we tell him specifically where to look and what to do. I am disappointed in the interface as well, I was hoping for something more like Jesters wheel or other type of pop up menu, there are going to be enough buttons to map and remember without having to dedicate one to "George". I hope I can get around some of that with Voice Attack (where he will be called Carl, or Hank, or something....but not George!). Its going to be tough enough to find enough buttons for the Apache as it is. -
now available When's black-shark 3 coming?
Mad Dog 762 replied to hawa0835's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I haven't seen a peep about BS3 for months. I am guessing its very much a back burner project for now. Maybe the janitor works on it in his spare time. -
Skipped the defensive systems and AI vids.....I think jumping to this means it coming out VERY soon!
-
Yes, and I found a easy fix for that, its called the "ignore" button. Bye Bye RT.
-
I guess he must have a mouse in his pocket. Him and the mouse are both "going to war" in 10 years. ???
-
Whoever picked "George" is not familiar with common American names for the time period in question. IMHO Carl or Hank would have been a much better choice.

I am glad I was not the only one confused on the rocket video. I understand the I Beam encompasses the elevation range of the rockets but I sure did not understand what all needed to be aligned where. I guess I am too used to using a fixed HUD for aiming rather than the movable HMD. So I would think if the diamond is fixed to the centerline of the aircraft you would just line it up with the I beam cursor and let fly but it does not seem to be that simple.

Exactly. December. January. February. March. Happy to take your money last October though, while posting lots of videos and touting how great and fast development is going, and forecasting a December release that obviously was NEVER EVER going to happen. I have a vote, with my $$$. I have at least 10 modules I have purchased that I wasn't really interested in, but I bought them to support ED. I have pre-ordered every module I think. No more.

The best heli to train for the Apache in would be......drum roll please.....the Apache!

I would hope for better communication all around. It would help in many ways.
