  1. But it can't take as much fire as the A-10 can. Additionally it requires a crew of 2 and it's simply designed for another purpose. Guys, you don't really want to compare attack aircraft to fighter/multirole aircraft. Each was designed for a certain purpose while most of them can carry out some more jobs also, even when they're not always the best choice for it. Example: The Mudhen is better for high alt deep interdiction strikes with guided ammunition than the Warthog. But sometimes there is no Mudhen available and then you'll be glad the A-10 got it's precision upgrade so it can fill a part of the gap. Same goes for CAS just vice versa: If you need the A-10 with it's gun deep and close, you can also order a F-15E, it's just not the best choice for this specific task. You all can carry this discussion right into nowhere, while EtherrealIN already said how it is: There will also be fanboys for each and every airframe, and there will always be some who want to try to tell ya that your favorite machine sucks. However: EDs choice will not depend on what's the best aircraft in any respect. All the considered aspects have been mentioned here multiple times already, so let's just lean back and wait for our suprise, which I expect for X-Mas! :D ... argh... I always plan to leave this thread alone, but then it happens, that I just can't stand to join the fun... :music_whistling:
  2. Yes, start at 20.000ft and keep clear off the target area for at least 5-10nm. Establish a racetrack orbit and start scanning the area and your RWR, from above an area that is known/supposed to be relatively safe. Then get closer and/or lower once you think it is safe and beginn to engage targets highest threat first. Configure your CMS dispenser programm so you can react to a sudden IR missile launch, coming from a unit you missed to spot. I think thats a beginning. Even though you might not have a sustained free TGP-FOV, you might survive longer. At least that's how I (we) do it. Might be different for SP missions with AI-super-sensor-wingman... but in unknown environments, depending on your own and facing a mean mission-builders air defense scenario, it works quite well.
  3. Right, and if you ever flew the KA-50, it even seems to be quite fast! :D
  4. Single Players speaking... That's why I'm flying MP exclusively since the very beginning of LockOn. There will always be someone or something trying to kick your a$$. :joystick: Though it's a lot of work to continously build missions for that effect.
  5. Might I suggest to develop techniques that also work in unknown threat environments?! Orbiting overhead a group of targets at 10k ft sounds like a good way to die, once you fly a mission you haven't designed yourself! ;)
  6. But a filter kinda does the job for you while the DEL key is more you're doing the job yourself!:smartass: :D
  7. How did you cover a broken function??
  8. Poor Wags... PM-Inbox has no Spam-Filter...
  9. I'll just keep asking and researching. There has been so much till now which is not covered by the manual and I bet ther's more to come. ;) Imagine the Manual would cover really everything possible, and how-to's for each and every scenario and how to emploi your systems according to that. It would have far more than 1000 pages...
  10. Nice work Flanker! :D  :joystick:
  11. MIN ALT computes the MRS (minimum range staple) and the approach-abort-cue, taking into account your altitude, entered value for MIN ALT, attitude, speed and selected escape maneuver (CLM/TLT/...). I'm still not sure whether to type in the MSA (min safe alt) or release alt. However, for me using release alt works best to execute a nice approach (according to the hawgsmoke mils Z-Diagrams). LDTOF/HDTOF could be Low-/High Drag Time Of Function. But I'm not sure what it's good for and whether it's functional in the sim anyway. MIL=Milliradian
  12. Yeah, it takes a bit of practice to get a feeling for the timing.
  13. High drag bombs are usually dropped at low altitude with low dive angle. That's what the chute is for. There'd be no reason for it if you want to do a 45° dive bomb approach from 9500ft.
  14. Never found that, as we're using our flight-log generator which generates a flight plan with all courses. So as long as you follow the default flight plan, you just enter the courses into the HSI which are listed in that Excel document. Nevertheless good to hear you guys found it and that it will be fixed! S!
  15. Sounds great! Looks like we're getting to a "close to reality" scenario regarding parties in conflict (not neccesarily their equipment ;) ). :) Now 1-2 airbases at turkey territory would give us some additional spots to launch NATO sorties from! Sorry for the OT... And yeah, great skin!
  16. And what is that fact useful for? A split of a second later it's flightpath begins to develop according to it's own aerodynamic characteristics...
  17. Uhm... No! All weapons (incl. Mk-82) have individual weight and drag and lift chracteristics. Especially different from the aircraft it's dropped from! That means they all have a significantly different flightpath towards the ground. That is why the IFFCC has to compute the pipper different for different types of ordnance.
  18. The steeper the dive, the closer you have to watch your G's! ;)
  19. Status update: Currently we're adding the terrain elevation lines. After that we'll add objects like antennas or lighthouses and all the other stuff that is relevant for the pilot due to their elevation above the ground or their useability as visual navigation reference objects. After that the charts will be given to our squadron members for internal testing. After fixing everything that might appear, they'll be ready to go.
  20. Is there a way to create profiles by editing a file, so it would be available for each flight, rather than having to create them for each sortie???
  21. Common procedures are 0°, 10°, 15°, 20°, 30°, 45°. But with enough altitude you can also use a higher angle.
  22. Cool! I already asked myself when they would print a new bunch.
  23. Once you see your wingmans wingtip light through your vertical stab, formation is a tiny bit too close! :D
