already in development DLSS is now free
Marco Schaap replied to Benchboy's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Without trying to bitch, DLSS in VR can prove a very effective performance gain, but that is only and solely if you're not CPU limited. With the current engine it wouldn't help a bit for most VR users because the game is simply not taking benefit of multiple cores. I play a number of games for many hours in VR, even UE4 (which by default uses 4 cores) runs shit in VR because the scenery is so complex most CPU's can't keep up. I'm pretty optimistic about the future (altough I'm not a fan of DLSS because it proprietary) but a holy grail for VR performance will probably take another few years. -
Might be a stupid question, but could you turn off fpsVR in DCS while flying in VR. If I use fpsVR in DCS I get massive framedrops!

Sorry to hear, you still have the same issues regardless of the settings you do. I guess you already know but for Ryzen 3000 1usmus created something which could be usefull: 1usmus custum power plan

Please try to set SteamVR SS to 60% and try again. Sadly DCS engine is mostly single core and doesn't benefit alot from multiple cores. VR rendering essentially doubles the work for the CPU, each frame has to be "drawn" twice for stereo rendering by the CPU before it gets "filled" by the GPU. In a single core limited engine this greatly limits VR performance. EDIT: Also try these shaders for VR: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3317762/

If u uncheck "use mouse" your HMD will function as a mouse, and yes you'll fly with a blue cross in your face. A couple of weeks ago I raised a question about if the color, form or size of that awfull cross could be changed, but Í've yet to get an answer.

A great coincidence today when visiting Leeuwarden. Norwegian F35 Trio landing at Leeuwarden airbase today. https://youtu.be/d9q-W6jcPrg

Man sometimes VR is a bitch. Do you use SteamVR Beta? If not please do that (Right click SteamVR --> Properties --> Beta's --> beta - SteamVR Beta Update). If that doesn't work, remove all ReShade traces from the bin folder and try if you can start DCS normally again without ReShade. If that succeeds use ReShade from this Github Repo: https://github.com/retroluxfilm/reshade-vrtoolkit/releases, rename Reshade64.dll to dxgi.dll, remove ReShade32.dll from the directory and copy the contents to the DCS bin folder. Now try to start DCS, if that succeeds you will most likely see the increased sharpness already being shown. If not, while in-game open Steam VR Dashboard and select the Reshade overlay in the lower left corner of the dashboard, this is where you also change settings in-game. To change settings (like sharpness, contrast clamping or anything else) uncheck "Performance Mode" adjust settings --> Reload --> Check "Performance Mode". After that close SteamVR Dashboard. I hope this helps!

Great to see you yielding so much performance and clarity with your settings. Is there a specific reason you bumped AF to x16? In all of my tests (also with 6900XT but then paired to Reverb G2) it is a major performance hog in my case. I've settled with 2x or 4x for performance gain vs quality. Do you use Reshade also?
-
I think your attitude is even more distasteful, everybody who uses VR over pancake makes his own sacrifices. Anyone who thinks 2D performance / quality is translated 1:1 to VR has clearly never used VR. Nobody questions the amount of work put in any of the elements of this sim regarding VR, but asking for improvements and trying to raise awareness for that is only to be complimented. Please try to be less of a rude person next time.

It can also happen intermittently if the headset loses inside-out tracking. Mostly what helps is covering both the front, and side camera's temporarily with your hands (1 or 2 seconds) and then the HMD will try to calibrate it's own sensors again. I personally got better results after installing another light source (with incandescent light preferably) in my game room. If the light is too white or bright it can interfere with the HMD tracking camera's. It's not DCS specific though, more a WMR "issue"
-
That's great, thanks, I'm still having intermittent 7-14 or 1-4 errors when trying to use my G2 sometimes. Mostly a disconnect / reconnect and sometimes a reboot helps, but a new cable / powerbrick which eliminates this would be very nice. I'm going to try fetching one from HP support.

VR - Crash when flying 18, Fine when flying 16.
Marco Schaap replied to CypherBlue's topic in VR Bugs
Have you extensively stress tested your OC to be stable? E.g. Prime95 or similar? It is possible some instability in OC occurs in a specific condition. -
Hi Guys, I've searched through a lot of topics on the forum, but was unable to find an answer to my question. Is anyone aware of a possible modification of the crosshair which you use for flicking cockpit switches, ICP buttons etc.? I'd prefer a small white dot instead of the big blue cross. Thanks in advance!

Read somewhere that it depends on if the drivers and hardware support it, might be the 660 doesn't support it.

Aww man... Glad you figured it out!

Could you try a Mobo USB 3.x port? There have been many USB issues reported (not specifically DCS related but in general). If that's not possible could you ensure having the latest drivers for the Startech expansion card? Driver page: https://www.startech.com/en-nl/cards-adapters/pexusb311ac3#support--section-downloads

I dunno who Thud is, but that's even more weird. Could you maybe post your Nvidia driver settings for DCS (or global if you don't have any specific Nvidia profile) and in-game settings including System and VR tab?
-
Can you confirm Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling is OFF, and do you use Resizable BAR? Turn Off Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling in Settings Open Start Menu and tap on Settings cog icon. In Settings, click on 'System' and open 'Display' tab. Under the “Multiple Displays” section, select “Graphics settings”. Turn off “Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling” option. Restart the system.

What if you exit FpsVR in-game (or don't use it at all)? I get major stuttering in DCS if I use FpsVR overlay.

This is what I did with my x52 when it came in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QcQ_aYui-U (not my video) Cheap, easy and works perfectly

Should I buy an AMD card if DCS is going Vulkan?
Marco Schaap replied to parxuk's topic in Virtual Reality
Can vouch for a 5800x / 6900 XT (Sapphire Nitro+) too, having great experience in contrary to a 3080 I used in january - february due tue a) poor drivers, b) little VRAM and c) absolutely minimal overhead regarding OC'ing, so what you get out of the box is what you keep. Pure rasterization the 6900 XT beats Nvidia out of the park (and it has major headroom), except maybe for the 3090 which incomparable because of it's price (even in MSRP). I came from a 2080Ti and the increase in performance going from 2080Ti to 3080 in VR was not impressive to me. I can only hope what FSR or a comparable technique from Nvidia (for the Nvidia userbase) might bring for DCS especially for the 1% and .1% lows.
