  1. So perhaps I should call the runway maintenance guys next time :P
  2. Landing with the F-15C proves to be problematic. The odd thing is that landing works very well at higher speeds, at which you shouldn't land an F-15C (even a simulated one...).:helpsmilie: http://youtu.be/RczUMYETvuo
  3. No aircraft lands at those speeds...what is going on ?
  4. Does anybody have any problems landing the F-15C ? At 120 knots (landing speed in the book), I loose my landing gear...:helpsmilie:
  5. I found out that opening the oil and coolant radiators for a few seconds cools the engine right out...who knew...:music_whistling: It seems that if your engine temp gauge is at the end of the green area - not past it - you are in very real danger of seizing the engine. So I put the rads on switches.
  6. The mission starts on the runway with engine running and dials show its warmed-up. The manifold pressure was below the red line and the RPM in the green when it happened. I think that malfunction is set to be a bit too sensitive. The random malfunction option was set to off.
  7. Well in my version...there is no water involved in the crash. The engine seizes and I turn to land on the strip, land side, and crash 30 feet before the threshold. But it seems the track system in DCS world is a view into the multiverse :smartass: Interesting...
  8. Here is the track... wtf.trk
  9. Blew a gasket here, oil pressure to zero instantly and klang...prop freeze and I did not quite made it back to the runway...But what did I do wrong ?
  10. same here, cycling and using weapons...many many crashes
  11. read first post, look-up "military"...
  12. I guess "Military" in table (first post)...3000 RPM, but not indefinitely.
  13. You can keep those.
  14. Everything went by the book...De-activated, uninstalled, installed BS1 for BS2 upgrade, installed everything including last minute patch, activated everything tried P-51D and BS2. All is fine if you are careful... Lou
  15. +1
  16. Perhaps it is honest and unsurprising for someone with a lot of experience with high powered tail- dragers. Maybe not so predictable for a cessna pilot !
  17. Aero was and is disabled, its only during and after using the track system that the problem shows, but it could very well be that the track system reverses that flag ? I'm sure it will be fixed anyway. Anyway I had a whale of a time with mustang...awesome sim :pilotfly: Oh uncheck ! Sorry, I read to fast, will try that !
  18. It seems to throw the whole program screen...things on my desktop show through if the mouse happens to fly over the corresponding emplacement and the dialogs become impossible to use for the whole program from then on...
  19. Just to be clear... The only time I put the throttle behind the stop, is when I want to start the A-10. On any other plane the throttle is at idle over the stop when I start with the starter in the cockpit. So at start of game: On the A-10 only: throttle on stop (behind the stopper), since that is how an A-10 starts. Any other aircraft: throttle on idle (over the stopper), since other aircraft have starters elsewhere.
  20. Its just that I thought that the DCS branding meant AFM...apparently not:(

    Mig-25

There is something weird about those two aircrafts, the SR-71 and the MiG 25, the SR-71 was made of titanium sheets, which was not available in America at the time (early sixties). The titanium was there, the problem was working with the titanium to make sheets. Only the Soviets could do that, and that is weird because the Foxbat was made of nickel steel...which is why it could not sustain such high speeds for long, being heavier from the steel and weapons (the 71 had cameras only). The engine was overtaxed with all the additional weight. So if the Soviets could work titanium, why didn't they use it ? And how the hell did the Americans get it ? There is a spy novel in there :D

    Mig-25

Interesting....any kind of reference to that ?

    Mig-25

SR-71 is the fastest, the X-15 is not an airplane and the Soviets had everyone believe that the Mig-25 was faster... But one was captured (landed in Japan, the pilot wanted out...) and it was determined that the airframe could not have supported such speeds. It was mostly propaganda. The 25 is fast but not that fast, probably mach 2.5 fast ( but for how long ?).
  24. I fly both and they are both amazing... The cockpits are identical, differences are differences between two individual aircrafts. The A2A flight model feels more 'raw' so to speak, maybe that is just a question of sound actually...But they behave essentially the same way. I mean, technically I'm sure you could make a list of detailed differences but they both did an amazing job of doing the same thing ! Like the startup is a bit different, the starter is not spring loaded in A2A's, so don't forget to turn it off because you will burn it. On A2A's, You have to switch ignition to both after 5 blades have passed, then mixture to rich...that's why the starter is not spring loaded... Takeoff, flight and general aerodynamic behavior is very similar, with the caveat that A2A's 'feels' more raw, maybe it's the 'accufeel' thing they developped, but I think the fact that the sounds seem more numerous and varied in A2A's P-51 has something to do with it. Little story to illustrate my point: As a teenager, I was quite the geek, and once with a friend we went skiing with earphones on and listened to a blast of white noise as we 'flew' downhill, it was his idea, and I can't remember why we did that exactly, but that cuts your hearing off totally, unlike just plugging them. A big surprise for me was that you simply cannot tell what kind of surface your skis are on, i.e: ice, soft, no snow, pellets, and so on...and that is critical to your skiing (and the well being of you legs). The thing is I thought that my feet were doing the feeling of the skis! Not my ears ! Well folks, the ears do it, and that was a big surprise. It is very dangerous to ski without your hearing. You can't tell what your skis are on:cry: I think, like skiing, a lot of the intensity of feeling like flying is actually due to the sounds. The intensity of the sounds, but perhaps more importantly, the variety and the variations of the sounds. To a surprising degree. So they are both amazing simulations, and you can actually pickup experience on one and use it on the other. Practice on one is good for both sims ! Now that is a first for me. And proof that we are converging on reality. Lou
