BUG: Su-25T cockpit in Russian, indicator lights in English
PE_Tigar posted a topic in Su-25T Issues
As of 1.2.2, Su-25T indicators in the cockpit (trim center lights, hydraulics, engine start, IR jammer, fuel quantity, RWR/SPO) are only in English, although I've chosen Russian as the cockpit language. HUD is in Russian though, cockpit itself mostly in Russian, except for the notes on pilot's kneeboards, those are in English too. And of course, ATC and audio warnings are still in English, no matter what aircraft I fly or for which country. -
F-15C - 6DOF not functioning in multiplayer...
PE_Tigar replied to PE_Tigar's topic in Bugs and Problems
How do you do that? I can unpack it easily, but when I repack - what format do I choose? EDIT: Opened the archive with 7zip, deleted Config folder, now everything works fine - thanks! -
F-15C - 6DOF not functioning in multiplayer...
PE_Tigar replied to PE_Tigar's topic in Bugs and Problems
I'm the server :) and it works in other planes, in the same mission (Dragon's Gudauta Rush, I just entered added 2xF-15C). -
...head tracking works (X-Y axis) but other axes not working. In single player 6DOF works completely.

Let's put it this way - DCS: P-51 D is awesome, love it. But I don't fly it too much because it lacks: - a map where it truly flew in WWII (my favorite would be something like Benelux+surrounding areas). - ground objects from WWII - adversaries and aerial targets - all these could be AI, don't care, having a choice of a Mustang vs. anything German I'd probably fly a Mustang 90% of times. I know there are many people who are happy just to fly it, but I also like to shoot/blow things up, and generally pretend to be a combat pilot, not just a vintage airshow one :).

I think I have all of these, but don't have them installed. What would be the right way of installing FC3 for me - installing LOMAC -> FC3 as a module to DCSW? Can I uninstall LOMAC after I install FC3?

Works for me, Su-25T yesterday, in one of the Dragon's missions. BTW, an interesting effect - tried an MP mission without any modifications, all clients dropped off some time or the other. Opened the mission in the editor, saved it - all good afterwards.

On Su-25T brakes - toe pedals do not work by design, because on the real airplane the breaks are on a stick (a lever I guess, or a button). Differential braking is achieved by using rudder input+the brake command. Hope this helps.

Su-25 vs Apache Hellfires (strange behavior / possible bug)
PE_Tigar replied to Hardliner's topic in General Questions
In principle, I agree with you - this should happen rather rarely. But the fact that you got hit means that the firing solution existed - so the helo pilot actually made a right decision. In practice, this only means that we're supposed to engage helicopters at a greater range or maneuver more aggressively (and yes, it's not only Apaches, Hinds engage airplanes with their thingamajigs too. And tanks engage helicopters. And Tunguskas engage Kh-58s... and so on). I personally prefer plinking helicopters with Vikhrs, there's no dodging that :). I can only imagine AI helo jockeys complaining in their AI heaven "but he shot me with Vikhr! WTF man!" :). -
I engage 2, max. 3 targets in one pass, switching off laser each time the preceding missile hits. Usually I fire two missiles per pass if there are threats in target environment, three with no threats, but very rarely, as the third one may not stabilize its path before impact. Now, when Wikipedia says the missiles are fired in pairs, it means salvo shots vs. one target. I don't think you can guide more missiles vs several targets at one time, you only carry one laser. Or do you think it would be possible to launch in 1 sec intervals for example, guide 3-4 the missiles down one beam, and then "walk" the beam down a column perhaps? I can imagine that working, but it could be quite unreliable, and also depends on the beam's ability to re-position... Again, this is just a speculation.

No worries mate - and btw thanks for testing this.
-
1. Thanks. 2. I'm not asking because of killing Tunguskas, I'm asking because Tunguskas were very effective in shooting down ARMs in my tests of ARMs vs. different SAM systems. Kinda funny, compared to the behavior you're describing vs. A-10s. P.S. Snide remarks are not helpful - maybe try and ask if the question is not clear.
-
Two questions: - is it one unit launching that many missiles? How many does a unit carry usually? - have you tested vs. ARMs? Seems to me they're very effective vs. those (Kh-31P, AMRAAM, Kh-58 ).
-
Maybe I'm exaggerating, but the missiles landed short with no damage to the radar. These were shots vs. a surveillance radar on a pole (don't remember the code, can't be bothered to look for it). Was just looking at the site as the missiles were flying in, two out of four carried by an F-16C I used for testing landed short (no damage to the radar), one hit the antenna directly, another landed short, but close, making the radar unit burn and explode. Another time - same thing. Maybe this is to simulate HARM effective accuracy, don't know. However - back to the topic. Should S-300 shoot at the incoming missiles? Can it realistically do that, and what's the hit/miss ratio? Can you really protect an S-300 site with a Tunguska (just put 6 Tunguskas around the site and nothing will go through :)). Why is Tor not firing at all - and it should be according to the information we have available? And don't get me started on Buk - that thing seems almost untouchable by ARMs.
-
I tried this for a bit and here's the result: - S-300 does not engage any ARMs. Tried it with Kh-31P, Kh-58 and HARM. I'm fairly certain that this is correct, as ijozic points out. Then, I've added one Tunguska and one Tor to the battery, and lo and behold, SACLOS Tunguska actually engaged and shot down three (out of 6) Kh-31Ps fired at the battery. Considering that Tunguska's missiles are optically command-guided I'm fairly certain that this is a bug. I don't think that any human would be able to optically acquire a supersonic missile and then guide another missile to it. It would help if devs would explain how do they model anti-ARM modes of different SAM/AAA systems. Tunguska even tried shooting down Kh-31P with a cannon. I don't say it's completely weird - Kashtan or Phalanx do exactly that - but the overall effectiveness of these short range systems seems to be a bit too high. Tunguska actually scored a perfect 3/3 vs. Kh-31P, those that passed did so because Tunguska couldn't launch more missiles at the same time. Another thing I noticed is that HARM accuracy is rather poor, maybe 50% land ~20m short of the target. Is that correct too?
-
Haven't tried that - but how do they guide then?
-
You can fire them, but you shouldn't be able to guide them both at the same time. The first one would loose guidance as soon as the beam was turned off. However, if the target is static, the missile might hit it even if the beam was off for the last part of its flight.
-
Having only 1 Vikhr in the air at the time is realistic, it's a beam riding missile - one beam, one missile, because the missile blocks the beam it's riding. Other laser guided weapons (25, 29, S-25L... etc.) are aimed at the laser dot projected onto the target, therefore you can have many weapons in the air at the same time.

The Toad (Su-25T) appreciation thread
PE_Tigar replied to Nate--IRL--'s topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Love the Toad! It's less sophisticated than the C Hog, but oh so much fun! I'm thoroughly enjoying the campaign that came with DCS: World at the moment... -
Funny - must be some other reason in that case... Thanks!
-
Thanks - this is really helpful. BTW, when you use "automatic startup" in A-10C I'd assume that it sets the altimeter automatically? Because I've had that nagging autopilot issue for a long time, and others in my squad had not - but I'm the only dork in the squad insisting on not using the auto-start :).
-
Had a little chat with a friend who used to fly with both Warsaw Pact and NATO and here's what I learned: - Russians use QFE, but so do Brits and the French, according to him (!) - Germans and the US - QNH - AWACS calls are on QNE
-
Flockzap, effte - absolutely right gents, it was a brainfart from my side - TA in the charts, TL in ATIS or from APP on descent (at least in Europe).
-
Well that's what I get for not reading the manual (I guess this is in the manual, right?) - I mean here I am, wondering for the gazilionth time why the A/P is not working until some time into the flight, and here's why. Thanks! Another question I have in that case is what altimeter setting does the AWACS use for its calls?
-
Tyger - so if I understand correctly the calls we get from ATC on contact in DCS are actually what you get in real combat situation? If so I'll just shut up and fly :).
