  1. Well - for AAMs I'll try it out in MP tonight with some friends. As for MANPADS - it could be that I was expecting too much. I haven't flown the Rook for a long time, so as of lately I've been breaking off my attacks way too late giving the Strelas and Iglas an opportunity to send multiple missiles my way...
  2. Happens to me intermittently - I hit Esc>Quit, the menu music starts, but escape menu etc. stays. Have to kill it through Task Manager, no crash log is generated.
  3. Strange - IR jammer acts normally/makes almost no difference against MANPADS.
  4. 1) this is very probably a feature - pitots on Su-25 are not constructed or calibrated to measure speeds below 80km/h. 2) this is annoying, I agree. In night training missions it's double annoying, because the contrast of white text vs. dark night kills your "night vision" 3) that is may be a feature too - the warning light and klaxon turn on due to "high AoA" indication (red light on the left upper side of the dashboard) - while stationary or moving slowly, wind can fiddle with the AoA probe and cause this. Not sure, however, because it stops later when you stop on the runway, for example. I have a few of my own observations as well: a) In training missions a "missile lock" tone will play with no way to turn it off from the instant you clear the briefing screen to the end. You can work around by re-starting the mission. b) In the Landing-Easy mission the instructions for ILS start when reaching the 10km finals on the opposite end of the runway (that has no ILS). c) in the "Internal cannon" mission (which is happening at night) no flares are dropped over the target, so you have to find unlit targets in pitch black night :). d) interface music continues playing throughout the whole mission. This may be by design, but it's a bit superfluous I think. e) numerous small discrepancies in systems descriptions and procedures - probably due to the aircraft modelling improvements and instructions text remaining the same.
  5. Yep, so that makes three of us - the logs look very much the same.
  6. I have seemingly random crashes in Su-25 campaign. I have tried running as administrator, repairing the installation, setting GPU fan manually to 100%... nothing worked. Logs and system.nfo attached. Logs.zip
  7. Had same problem - but got guidance how to solve it: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=148084
  8. Thanks - worked perfectly :)!
  9. I've downloaded and activated all the modules through the module manager, but for MiG I only have the "Buy" option, not install.
  10. Same - I don't even get the list of modules, just that error message.
  11. I'm not an expert or anything, but the wings on the model are on backwards (trailing edge first).
  12. As the band's frontman (who is a fairly well known actor here) said, they've chosen the name MiG-21 for three reasons: -they were somewhat inspired by U2's example to choose aviation-related name -they liked the fact that the plane is old and almost useless, but was designed to instill fear - like the band itself (don't ask - I don't understand what they mean by this either). -MiG-21 is the most beautiful of all the MiGs, and that's why they chose it specifically So apparently no relation to the plane - but take into account that hundreds of Czech (and Slovak) pilots flew the plane over the decades, and possibly thousands of people were related to the plane's deployments, maintenance, and production (F-13 was produced in the Czechoslovakia as well). It's probably the best known jet fighter in the Czech Republic (even though it was retired from the air force in 2005).
  13. You probably can get Class II no problem, depends of how your eyesight is after correction - that means when wearing glasses or contact lenses. I'm Class I certified, no glasses, and had laser surgery ~10 years ago. My vision is still 20/20 at least. I would advise first consulting with certified AME (aeromedical examiner) and then deciding on what you want to do - laser surgery, or just correct it somehow...
  14. It bugged me as well, but the solution is simple - to the right of the bulky black gunsight base is a two position switch (looks like a diagonal silver bar). Cycle that (after switching on all the required stuff on the right panel) and there you go.
  15. Good to hear. I'm a neophile so of course will be installing it as soon as I get the opportunity.
  16. Well, since a tech preview was available to all for some time now, I assume someone should've tried it out in ED I guess.
  17. 1. How did you learn about DCS? I flew the old Flanker first, then the newer Flanker (was it 2.5?), then Lock On... 2. When did you first learn about the F-14? I remember when I was 8-9 a friend of mine had die cast models of F-14 and MiG-25. Both looked amazing. Then I got a plastic model kit of an F-14, with functioning swing wings when I was about 11. I loved planes when I was a kid (still do :D) and the F-14 probably has one of the most memorable shapes around. 3. What made you fall in love with the F-14? Everything... Swing wings, two afterburners, carrier ops, large missiles hanging under it... 4. Any backstories of seeing the Top Gun movie for the first time? It wasn't particularly memorable, aside from the fact that I was 15 at the time and even then I knew that MiG-28 doesn't exist :) Soundtrack kicked arse though, and I probably never got over that leather jacket Tom Cruise wore :). 5. Did any of you really fly/RIO in an F-14? Not me. I'm not an Iranian or a US national, so never even had a chance...
  18. Looks great!
  19. Each SA-11 has its own radar mounted on TEL (the middle vehicle): http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1a/Buk-M1-2_air_defence_system_in_2010.jpg That's why it doesn't need a separate radar (the range is smaller etc. but it still works). Nasty thing, you only need one to mess up someone's day... or multiple someone's. SA-3/-6/-10 don't have separate radars, and have to be deployed with separate search and tracking radars (in RL and DCS).
  20. Yep - F-4 is a beautiful case study of what enough thrust can help overcome.
  21. Ah, INS :) Of course it needs to be aligned - some guys discuss it here, they seem to know what they're taking about: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/rec.aviation.military.naval/LDqxfDpiA64 Depending on what system is implemented (mechanical or ring-laser gyros) the accuracy of navigation will decrease during the flight more or less. I'd expect not much, though, it's usually a function of time, and mechanical forces (turbulence, maneuvering), so if a mission lasts less than a couple of hours it should stay fairly precise...
  22. Yep, not working for me either, cold start instant action mission, did everything, switched to channel 14... nothing.
  23. I have a CPL and around 400 hours on small planes... and about 15 years of flying simulations, and the first time flying an approach in the MiG I was sure I was going to crash. But nothing happened, I did everything by the book and all was well. That landing speed tho... I remember when I was a kid reading about different fighter planes one thing always stood out for MiG-21 - take-off and especially landing run were extra long! Now I understand why :). The margin of error is very, very low - I find other fast jets with decent FM in the game much easier to land. But then again, they were designed to be nicer on landing, unlike F-104 or our beloved MiG. Also - as learned from a real pilot with a lot of hours on MiG-21MF - watch your AoA and use AoA to get the landing right. Ideal landing speed will increase with weight, but ideal AoA remains the same...
  24. Great app - thanks!
