  1. Yeah, I agree that the blades look a little too bent when the Hind is cold. But under load they look correct I would say.
  2. here at he end you can see a Mi-24p doing a rolling landing in Syria:
  3. Pilot Mi8 also said in the recent interview that the gun of the Mi-24VP was also not very combat effective because it did not have an advanced targeting computer. The turret is not super useful if it is difficult to hit anything with it. The only Mi-24 variant with a combat effective turret seems to be the Mi-35p (or maybe the superhind) but I think its very unlikely that we will get that.
  4. here Pilot Mi-8 said that the door gunner will have a KORD machine gun this is how it will probably look like
  5. It will be modeled as a 3D model (will probably look better than in the Mi-8) but there will be no troops sitting in it when you pick them up. We will get door gunners (with the KORD machine gun) but not at the initial early access release.
  6. yes, the Hind can definitely hover but not as good as a Mi-8 or Ka-50. The Mi-8s in Afghanistan could hover to drop troops in the mountains but a Mi-24p with a full weapons load could not even take off in a hover at ground level there. At sea level it can probably hover with a full weapons load but that would be stressing the turbines a lot when done too long. thats why I only said "it doesn't like to hover" instead of "it cannot hover" I was not trying to spread the conspiracy theory that the Hind cannot hover
  7. I found that its a very good tactic for the Ka-50 and actually also the reason that I dont enjoy flying it as much. It is kind of boring to just hover and kill 12 vehicles from standoff range with vikhrs. It is very effective (in DCS) but not fun for me. Of course nobody forces me to use that tactic but since it works best for me, I do it kind of involuntarily :D. I really like the Mi-8 because I automatically do the sorts of tactics that you can see from the Hind in real life. With the upcoming Mi-24p it is cool to also have the ability to destroy some high threat targets with precision. But since the hind does not like to hover I imagine that these ATGM launches will also happen on the move and be more fun than vikhr launches. Furthermore, the Hind is more stable when doing a rocket run and also has some (even if rudimentary) CCIP calculation. The lack of CCIP is one thing I find annoying sometimes with the Mi-8
  8. oh wow, you are correct. I didn't even notice that you can hear any audio from DCS in this video.
  9. here is the timestamp and a screen of what I mean. (1:47:04)
  10. at least in the recent video you could see him telling the distance to target in the top right of the screen. Lets hope that all of these callouts are also readable.
  11. For everyone who doesn't speak russian: the interview now has youtubes auto-generated subtitles which can be translated to english. Those subtitles are sub-optimal of course but I could understand most of the time what he was saying
  12. thanks for posting this, awesome video. I never seen such an in depth look at this machine!
  13. Haha, no worries ;) I was just having a panic attack when all my controls were broken. But now my workaround is working perfectly and I only had to redo my UI Layer keybinds.
  14. Well I guess I am just going to answer my own question: Since I am using reWASD anyway I can for example use the shift layers to map pedal+A to a keyboard input and just use that new in the UI layer. this way my setup would work as before, I just have to redo all the configs.
  15. Hi guys, With the latest latest DCS World Open Beta Version I have the problem that none of my control setups works anymore. The problem is that now the game is very strict with binding conflicts between the aircraft and the UI Layer. As an example you can see in the first picture i have bound shift+BTN8 in the UI layer. This will make BTN8 unusable in any plane as a modifier. I can still use it as a button but not as a modifier. This was possible in the previous version I wonder what the reasoning behind this was. This change is actually a big inconvenience for me because I am playing in VR with an xbox controller and it is really hard to map all the functions to the controller but I managed it and was working much better for me than with the X52. Does anyone have a related problem or am I the only one? (if anyone is wondering why i am using 'shift' in the UI layer so often: I mapped one of the xbox elite controller pedals to it, so its effectively also a controller button)
  16. I think it will be like a regular weekly newsletter but bigger. And a cool new trailer to go along with it like last year
  17. For all of us with a Mi-24 as an avatar the choice is an easy one
  18. Just to add to that: the range will of course only be an estimation. The system assumes that the ground under the helicopter is flat. So in the mountains your range indicator and therefore impact point will often be not very accurate
  19. This problem only occurs in VR. I am using the original Oculus Rift. Any 3D world position that is projected to the HMCS is not quite correct. It is only correct when you are looking directly at the point but if you look slightly to the side, it will shift. Turning the head from left to right will move the point up and down. Turning your head up and down will move the point from left to right (in screen space). The problem becomes more obvious when the plane is banking a little bit. In the attached comparison image you can see that the position of the waypoint "whale" (in the weapons training instant mission on nevada) appears to be at different locations depending on where you look.
  20. I havent looked at the track but I remember a jump like this from the old A-10. I think the problem occurs when the TGP center is crossing the boresight-point. Then suddenly it has to rotate by 180° to keep tracking the Target. For a short time it will lose the target but reaquire it most of the time During a dive to the Target you can cross this boresight point multiple times and the pod has to rotate back and forth multiple times and sometimes locks at a different spot on the ground Maybe this could be what you are experiencing Edit: Then again, maybe this is what you meant by gimbal roll. So maybe your problem is separate.
  21. new video of our baby doing some training. This is the first time I saw a video of Mi-24 dropping a bomb.
  22. I did some simple calculatons about the kinetic energy of the two compared guns: I get that the Mi-24 has about 1.57 times the kinetic energy of the apache in each projectile at the muzzle heres the calculation: https://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=%280.5+*+0.39+*+940%5E2%29%2F%280.5+*+0.339+*+805%5E2%29 Now if I look at the total energy output per second (factoring in the fire rates) I get that the MI-24p's gun has about 15 times the kinetic energy output of the apache at the high RPM setting https://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=%28%280.5+*+0.39+*+940%5E2%29+*+2600%29%2F%28%280.5+*+0.339+*+805%5E2%29*265%29 Thats about 7466KW for the Hind and 485KW for the gun of the apache. Now, those numbers of course in no way reflect the combat effectiveness of the guns. I would argue that the apaches gun is much more effective because it is mounted in a turret with an advanced ballistics computer and FLIR. But still: The Mi-24p has one hell of a gun and if aimed properly it can cause some serious damage
  23. I guess he was talking about the Raduga-sh that is used to guide ATGMs. As far as I know there is no information available on that. Even on the russian forums I didn't find anything. But if I had to guess I would say that it will probably be a full view sight. But nobody knows...
  24. Its similar to the SU-25 with CCIP for guns and rockets and CCRP for bombs
