  1. MiG-21 wins pretty handily unless the F1 is less than 50% fuel and flies super well, overall F1 is great for bnz, but quite hard to dogfight in (for most players pretty much any other plane on ECW is going to be "easier" to dogfight in). 530 IRs and 530 EMs are very good dogfight missiles though, so they can shake things up in a fight if the F1 gets a good lock.
  2. The patch I've been waiting for! Finally time to go fly the Viggen in MP again, ty!
  3. Welcome! 1) Yes, the front line units that spawn are very good targets in an A-10 or Su-25. 2) Targets populate along the first front line sector (so the first Blue sector contains Blue targets for Red to hit and vice versa). If you are a lucky, a friendly fighter might have performed some recon and generated marks on the map for targets (recon with unarmed aircraft is a server feature). Otherwise it's very possible to spot ground targets by radar or with your eyes by simply flying along your side of the front lines and looking for targets in the enemies front line (targets are grouped together and in open spaces in terms of terrain). 3) Industrial targets and front line depots can also be hit by A-10s or Su-25s (marked on map with labels), but they are further away and you are unlikely to get to target without being intercepted (although the oil platforms on maps tend to be fairly unguarded).
  4. Hey All, Just posting here with my logs and footage of the bug happening in the wild. Radar on = my FPS drops, Radar off or standby = no issues. Running an old card (GeForce GTX 970) on the latest drivers from Nvidia. Can also confirm that if I reinstall old drivers (such as 442.74), I no longer experience FPS loss if the radar is on in the MiG-21bis. Cheers, Parab Parab Log with FPS Radar Bug.log
  5. Until the in-game comm system supports Overlord Bot or LotATC, I don't really see a reason to swapping over from SRS. Supporting third party comm tools is pretty much the most important thing at the moment given how long it has taken for an in-game voice comm system to be provided (unless ED is really interested in dedicating a massive amount of time in replicating the wide range of features these external tools provide and that many players have come to rely on for their MP experience).
  6. The earlier Mirage being worked on will probably work well on the server, but sadly the M2000c, while a really cool plane, is way, way, way too advanced for this server. I'd recommend trialing the MiG-21bis or Viggen whenever you are done trialing the M2000c to get in on some sweet, sweet delta wing action.
  7. It's exciting to see DCS add or well improve in-game VOIP, but a big component to me is integration with existing (and future) third party apps. In the absence of in-game VOIP, the community has had to fill the gap with external tools (like LotATC / Overlord / etc.) and it would be problematic if these weren't supported essentially out of the gate (if the goal is to really get people to switch over to in-game VOIP, at least).
  8. Strike missions with the Viggen have been super fun, so I can definitely see how it would be great to do it on Red For with MiGs. It's really amazing how the combination of SRS and the dynamically moving map really almost seems to generate teamwork (I've found random pilots on the server and just teamed up to hit targets and it's been amazing).
  9. Congrats and don't worry! I enjoyed flying MiG-19Ps on your server and while I'd love to see it back soon, real life always comes 51149234099x before a game like DCS. Running/maintain a server is a ton of work and I am just happy (and often amazed) that people are willing to do it given the limited tools most games provide for server admins/mission makers. The early/mid Cold War is really one of the most exciting parts of DCS and I hope to see it get more attention from players/devs in the near future.
  10. With another campaign down, I just have to report that I have have had a blast. It's been great linking up with random pilots and especially given my deep dive into flying the Viggen this Campaign, I've really enjoyed getting to fly with a solid group of equally speed hungry Viggen pilots! Looking forward to what Campaign #3 brings us!
  11. Thanks to the server admins/coders/staff for a great first campaign! I remain continually impressed with the progress made to add features and fix any issues encountered. It's also ridiculously impressive how stable things have run given that this was your first hosted campaign. I pretty much flew Blue the entire time (<3 Viggen), but despite losing I had an amazing time (probably some of the closet experiences I've had and been chasing since the days of WW2OL). The last couple of days of battling were extremely intense and in some ways I almost wish it never would have ended. It's been great to link up with people on the server for CAP and strike sorties and overall I'm really excited to see this server and dynamic campaign community grow (especially in terms of figuring out tactics to employ). Finally, as a newbie to DCS (I think this is about my second week of actual MP playtime outside of random WW2 sorties), I felt like this server was challenging, but manageable (so I would encourage anyone else sitting on the fence you just join and don't be afraid to ask some of the veteran DCS CW players questions, I certainly did, lol).
  12. Yes, extremely. Overall, I find it pretty annoying at all times, lol. I'm sure I could just lower the volume or mute it somehow, but honestly, since I don't use it at all, it's kind of pointless. As a Cold War newbie, there's enough noise between Overlord + players communicating + radar warning for me to sometimes get a bit overwhelmed without having AWACs GCI (not Overlord) talking. So personally, I feel like it would be ideal to just lean into Overlord Channel, human GCI + player channel, and AWACS (DCS default) channel (mostly there as a legacy for those that don't want to use the Overlord bot).
  13. I think it could be pretty useful to split them up, listening to the default AWACS GCI is a bit annoying as I prefer to use the Overlord Bot (goodbye dollars), but I have really enjoyed working with a player GCI when they pop in. Similarly, I like using a channel to talk to other players, but right now that channel is also the default AWACS GCI channel (which I don't use and mostly try to ignore).
  14. Just wanted to post and say this is truly an exceptional server! I don't think I would play DCS WW2 if it wasn't for SoW, so glad to see the server active and still going!
  15. As a complete neophyte to DCS and especially Cold War jets, I've really enjoyed playing on the server. Dynamic PVP campaigns offer a lot of cool incentive to try to move the map. I've been impressed with how relatively smooth the server launch has been and the US time zone population has been really good (managed to have good sorties even at odd hours). Hope to see more good stuff on the server and in terms of development!
