You've seen the graph. In even simpler terms. the strength of the spring determines the starting strength of the nearlyu uncompressed spring. Then you can fine tune the spring by hand and screwdriver. If you have the light spring and you feel you need to tighten it all way up, then a medium or heavier spring might be better for you since overtightening the springs compresses the springs to the point where the stick cannot fully deflect anymore. So you will lose resolution in the stick. So don't overtighten but change to heavier spring and then tune it so you can use the full range of motion of the stick. Ps: DAMN VIRPIL!!! that throttle quadrant looks awsome.. If ever my warthog thrustmaster throttle dies on me then this is the absolute replacement I would like to have! Also if my kids get the same flying flu like I have I might buy this one for myself and let the kids use my old warthog. Although that will be a couple of years down the road at least :/

please drop a link here once you started. I always keep up to date with this thread. Awsome! you lalsmost make me want to buy a virpil mounting solution even though I have my own mounting mechanism in place.

The bottom connector on the virpil base isnt fixed like the connector on the warthog base. So yeah you can fasten the warthog stick angled to the left like you would if you use it as a center stick. Also by using a extension this would obviously be the case since the wire that goes through the extension can be rotated as well. I solely bought the virpil base to replace my warthog base because of sticktion. I also use a aluminium extension of 12 cm's made by the creator of the MFG Crosswind pedals. so the heavy warthog stick with an extension sits fine on the virpil base. I believe I have the medium springs and soft center cams installed and since I fly alot of helo I have loosenend the springs so much that it just about sits in the middle but its very light to handle. With these loosened settings the stick dips every so slightly to the front and left. not noticeble by eye but you can see that its not centered in dxview. but its like a millimeter or so. So I recalibrated the stick so its centered with the virpil software and it flies like a breeze. When you fly fixed wing I imagine you want a bit more centering strength so you would have no issues at all. edit: on another note I had written an incredible story on how glad I was with virpil customer support but when I tried posting it I apparently wasnt logged in and I lost the post entirely. In a nutshell I messed up my base kinda as well like dburne did just not as completely :p I had some issues with faulty cams and some rattling. i guess it was a monday morning model. Last year Virpil offered me a replacement but on my end I had to wait a few months before I was able to. This year I took them up on their offer and they very kindly sent me a replacement base when they received the faulty unit. I must say that it didnt cost me a dime since they just opened a warehouse in Lithuania making them Europe based and sent a courier to pick up the package. All the kinks had been ironed out with the revised model. I havent even opend up the base yet since out of the box It worked precisely as I wanted! Very very happy with my unit right now and I have alot of faith that this company will set a mighty footprint in the high end simulation peripherals! their aftersales support is simply outstanding and their products no less now they have upped their quality control. They are getting alot of rep for that at the moment and thats a very good thing. Thanks Cyph3r! Virpil is glad to have you I'm sure!

Hi there, I have this very cool programmable split keyboard from SmartYao\koolertron. The problem is however the SIM detects right control and alt as left control and alt. I don't know if the latest update to 2.5 did something to the controls or that the fault lies at the keyboard. I havent been able to use this keyboard in a former dcs version. Also I havent found a way to readout what the keyboard really outputs. if someone knows of a program to read the hex or decimal output I can check where the fault lies. I did use the correct decimal scancodes for the keys. right shift: 229 right alt: 230 right control 228 also the keyboards software has it mapped and it shows Alt_r with the right (hid) 230 when i select it on the keyboard mapping layout its really frustrating not beind able to close the door in the KA-50 or hit right ctrl enter to see my peripherals output. edit: most simple test was ofcourse testing my old keyboard... this works as intended. making a new modifier and hitting the right alt shift and control it immediately shows it identifies it as RAlt, Shifit and RCtrl.... so fault lies with my split keyboard.

Ah right. I recall seeying that one yeah. The problem with this stick is that its advertised as a big stick not suitable for desktop which was fine with me since i wanted an extented center mounted stick. This is only temporary untill I have drawn out my cockpit layout. But as Virpil has stated you can also turn around the base so you can have the mounting bracket facing the chair. That way you can mount it at the underside of the chair or something or even with those dedicated seats you might be able to come up with a simple solution. Then afterwards you only need to invert the axis by means of the Virpil software.

I used 2 aluminium corner profiles to attach to the bracket as seen on this photo. I didn't replace the U-Bracket. Its still there :) https://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=168586&d=1504468480

Hi Cyph3r, finally came around to take some pictures of my cams and my disgruntlement about the installation procedure. I've mailed you just now.

Also not very happy over here. Replacement cams were only halve polished like the other user who posted alot of pictures. Were better polished than originals so went on with installing. Frustrating to say the least. The new cams dimensions which are supposed to go over the notch are approximately 1,5 or 2 mm narrower than originals. Also the notch seemed to be not cut straight. My guess is that the original didn't fit at first and they manually stripped some material away. They didn't do a decent job though since the cam didn't sit flush with the material. That's where my problems arose. I had to cut away a bit of the material from the sides of the notch and the surrounding "flat/not flat" area to get the cam fit precisely. 10 minute job took 2 hours! Only did the roll cam. Pitch cam was working as intended but not 100 percent smooth but because of tediousness of installing left pitch cam for what it was. And because I apparently stripped the screws on a previous endeavor to fasten it securely so it wouldn't make weird noises and suffer from sticktion. But I'll take my losses and hope to never open the damn thing again. I guess that's the "perks" of early adoption... Not happy about the sloppy manufacturing. I sincerely hope virpil will have better precision in the future because this will scare customers away.

The Russian labels are cool! Please implement them in your next revision! In the future I'll be buying a mongoose stick as well and I would love the labels on them even though I don't speak Russian. But I did fly the first dcs module of ka-50 in Russian! (Because that was the only version). On another note, my cams arrived. Gonna do some heavy duty flying this weekend and see if all my problems will be sorted :)

Been flying a bit of huey and p51D mostly. Initially I thought the medium springs were to stiff. At that point I thought I would have liked a more balanced cam. One that isn't so stiff at the extremes. But when flying the P51-D it became apparent that the further you travel the stiffer the stick gets is very handy for the p51-D. Usually I would lose control very soon over the craft because I would be flying outside its envelope parameters. Now I can better fly at the crafts limits. Still suck at dogfighting AI (VIRPIL I THOUGHT I WOULD BE AN ACE WITH THIS BASE j/k) but now and again i can get a bead on them and even turn fight without falling out of the sky. I did my first Split-S boom and zoom and hit the bf-109 this afternoon! Taking off and landing is excellent! so much control and the warthog with extension feel so good on your base! very sensitive inputs when the springs are tuned just right. I fly with a bit more slack on pitch than on roll. So the warthog dips ever so slightly according to the axis readout. This is ofcourse mitigated with trim on the craft but its a joy to fly those WWII crates! With the Huey the stick works great as well. I don't trim anymore since I said goodbye to my logitect G940. Still with the relative stiffness of the springs I can cruise relaxed with two fingers at the base of the stick and when i need to make more aggresive manuevers I firmly grip it. SOOO much better than the Warthog Gimbal! Complements the Warthog stick with extension beyond measure! now to find some time to make a decent cockpit with a carseat because i can imagine myself sitting behind this stick for hours on end! More flying Please! :pilotfly:

Thanks for troubleshooting with me :) It appears it was indeed the pitch cam not being securely fastened. When opened i could even turn it by hand a few times. strangely this only became apparent when I started adjusting the springstrength. Pitch axis is solved. roll axis still some noise but couldnt secure it any further. Probably coarse cams. just a little feedback, as someone else I think also indicated, the circuit board is really weirdly fixated. I removed 2 screws. down came 2 nuts and washers. when i went and put it all back together I had 3 nuts.. apparently those 2 nuts were used as spacers and the third nut fell off behind a piece of tie-wrap over the circuitboard. luckily the other nut was still behind the tie-wrap. I cannot help but feel that there is a more efficient and user friendly way to fix those things. Also the hex/allen screws in the cams are not great quality and very small. I see why there are spares in the cam bag. My hand hex could barely dig into the screw and i had to use my battery screw driver on lowest setting to fasten it. One screw i know i need to replace if i get it out when my new cams arrive. nuts and bolts would have worked better in that scenario I think. But it probably needs to be as recessed as possible because of space restriction. thanks again for all the help and info though. Ill put up with a bit of noise from the roll axis untill my new cams arrive :)

I'll try to find time tonight and report back. I hope I have such a small hex or torque drivers else it will be tomorrow when I have been to the hardware store.

I found several culprits why my base is acting a bit clunky. 1 it seems that the installed cams are the only cams not polished as can be seen on photo 1. I'll be emailing Virpil for a replacement. 2 the wires above the gimbal DO interfere with my base. the wires are very loose and when i pitch up i hear tiktik SCREECH. because they are too loose they get caught in the metal opening. hard to explain in words. I solved this by putting a plastic washer RIGHT underneath the DIN connector where you connect the stick or extension cord for an extension. This way there is less slack and the wire doesnt grip in the hole. 3 I presumed the springs were at fault but couldnt find anything. So i just gave it a bit of WD40. 4 this is the most troublesome point for me because I am now reluctant to use the stick out of fear i might break something. As you can see in picture 2 just below the wiring there is a philips screw not entirely recessed. in picture 3 you can see that the screw isnt even touching the thread on the other side! its through the first thread, maybe slightly in the pole which goes horizontally to the sensor but not in the next thread to secure it all in place. I think this is were the *Thunk* with a sticktion feel comes from when pitching down. I tried figuring out how to rectify this but i presume that the pivot is lowered and then the horizontal pole is pushed through it and only then the philips screw is fastened. I have no tools to fasten this screw in that location under that angle :( I can do some hobby work but dismantling the entire thing would be daunting for someone like me.. Please advise.

@WindyTx I used it stock. Haven't seen the innards yet but of course it could have been assembled too loosely. I'll check @pabstblueribbon: which screws do you mean? On the Warthog grip itself?? The sound most definitely comes from the gimbal not the grip itself. I also feel the springs tensing up. At extremes it's perfect but re-centering and then going to opposite direction makes noise and feels clunky and gives a bit of sticktion.

Ok thanks for the info. Have been flying a couple of hours and it feel great. However i need to take it apart tommorow i think.. even with medium springs and extension I feel its still to heavy. I tried adjusting springs untill warthog was not falling topheavy on both roll and pitch and then went flying. extremes are still bit heavy but middle is nice and responsive. Although now i have a small *thunk* whenever i go from pitch up to pitch down right after i hit center. This happens with a small sticktion feel. Like those horrendous saitek springs which made me overshoot the bead on ones canopy. Its not as bad though but i may have bad cams or there is something wrong with the spring. It sounds like a spring issue. Upping the tension doesnt really help. With roll the issue is less prominent. but I also feel the spring tiktiktik when i go through the center. Gonna look at the insides tommorow to see if i can isolate the problem.

Hey cyp3r could you please read post 1271 regarding the exposed wires beneath the gimbal. Is this normal or is it missing a piece of shrink wrap? Additional: regardless I'm going to take it for a spin right now for I have mounted the Base to something :)
-
I think I recall someone pondering if the spring strength was sufficient for the topheavy Warthog. My Base came preinstalled with medium springs and soft cam. With a 12 cm extension from Milan, the creator of the mfg crosswind it stays put in the middle very well. Haven't adjusted the spring strength yet because I still need to secure the Base to something. All in all very happy with it. Dry practicing feels already very smooth. Edit: I do wonder though if the wires are supposed to be exposed just above the gimbal and going to the din connector. They seem to chave ever so slightly against the metal hole it's going through when pitching up or down

My t50 Base has finally been sent out yay! Can't wait to try it out.

The only reason I bought the Virpil Base is because I already own a Warthog of which I dislike the gimbal. So in my case going with Virpil is cheaper than VKB because I only need the base. I can't wait to receive it im so impatient :) Glad that my gutfeeling is not letting me down and this piece of hardware is gonna be upper tier just like VKB :) Edit: funny how things go though.. My logitech G940 Pedals which i took the centering spring out from started spiking for which after long deliberation I opted for the MFG crosswinds. Afterwards I bought the thrustmaster warthog solely for its throttle because my logitech 940 throttle broke down as well. The warthog stick was gathering dust while I kept flying helo's with forcefeedback untill I started playing the A10-C. Wouldve been weird NOT using the f16 hotas in its entirety while flying the hog. Since then I got Milans 12 cm extension for the warthog stick and while it was a considerable improvement and flying helo's with the trim to center method grew on me, it still felt subpar. Hopefully now my setup will be as best as it can be :) the price difference makes up for not having axis friction adjusters though. I hope :)

Ah thanks. Missed that update :) now I can stop molesting my check junk mail button for a bit :)

Hi there, Is there any chance this app will include other crafts as well? Ka-50 for instance? -
Mine will be sent at the beginning of next week I hope. When i get my hands on it I will sure be sure to let you guys know. I might switch to no center and medium springs on warthog with 12 cm extension because I fly helo's mostly.
