  1. Hi Newy. Here is some unclassified data for an F/A-18-C maximum rate and bleed with F404-GE-402 (the same engine as we have in DCS) Turn to page 30 for consolidated performance figures, page 74, 75 for graphs Are you able to pass this on to the team. Here is the page so you can see that the graphs are not classified. I'm hoping that they will help with the development of FM https://www.gao.gov/products/nsiad-96-98
  2. A few things. First. We know this is the case because of many interviews/discussions/comments from pilots who flew these planes. But even more hilariously, you yourself used Wilbur's post when you were talking about your "data" Second. I respect your opinion, but you don't get to have your own facts. Your test method is wrong or you don't know what you're doing. Your post is the one that is sprouting nonsense Here are the graphs made by Contact Light with all the extra information you wanted. Notice how Max instant, Max sustained turn, max sustained radius and min Radius have all F-16 dominated Third. Let's take wilbur81's information above, and we can see that this is not the case for the F16 viper in DCS And don't take it from me. You want more in-game data, here is a video. Finally you're most welcome to try to come on the dogfighters server and try to outrate the hornet
  3. I don't think he is Snappy I don't want to read too much into what he has said for obvious reasons, but his direct quote was "Partly, some data is but not all, but F-5 data is, curve depends on a wing, 18 and 5 have very simikar curves, we know F-5, adjust for 18 peak about 16.4-16.5. A little flater than F-16 below 350kts since delta has more drag even if 16 has more thrust to weight. Its close to black curve" - to me it reads that he has used data from many places and then he went into more detail about the F5 (which is declassified) Now, whilst I am dancing around this; you've nailed the nail on the head - I am sure many would love to chime in, and I would love to present more, but the data is classified. All we can do is point to stories and interviews and then point to other aircraft to try to steer the development into the right direction by bringing this topic to the forefront. If this means that some people think I am dumb for posting with no "evidence", so be it A little off topic, but I am very excited about the Mig 17, the flight dynamics according to one of the videos are complete and it has many ways to depart, which is going to be crucial for a Gen 1
  4. Thank you. I appreciate your reply Lord Vader You’re doing great Stackhouse. If you keep working on your literacy and reading skills the next two paragraph post will take you even less time to read. Keep practicing mate!
  5. Hey Folks Thanks for the new flight model. In slower flight envelope the jet feels great, however I do strongly believe that in it's current state the F/A-18 is too dominant in some of the flight characteristics. Here are my main takeaways of the current situation in DCS 1) Viper is a dominant energy fighter with a two circle bias. (Even the brick house that is Block 50) 2) It's widely believed that Viper's flight model is actually following the charts (where they are available) very well. Well done ED 3) In DCS Hornet is better than the Viper in Instantaneous Turn, One Circle, Two Circle. Viper has a minuscule edge in energy retention (if GLOC is managed - a little easier now with the new GLOC mechanic, thank you ED) I know the flight model is a work in progress, however I understand you need data to do something with it and the tasty parts are classified. Here are a few suggestions: Below is a chart that was made by GVad. He is a prominent member of the community who focuses heavily on flight model and is on the Mig 17 Team By the graph below we can see that the Hornet is over 2'/second stronger than the F16 in Rate Performance. That's not a small edge. In a fully balanced rate fight with two aircraft in their best rate speed this would mean that the hornet will have a guns solution in less than 1:30min. We can also see that the Rate speed in DCS for the Hornet is actually 420KIAS instead of the widely recited ~360-380KIAS What was also mentioned is that 'There's an issue in DCS where planes above mach 0.6 turn better than they should because at above 0.6 wings actually produce less lift' Why do I think the model need a change? It's undeniable that the F/A-18 is an amazing, but in the end it comes down to the fact that the Hornet is better than the Viper through the entire flight envelope in and in almost all aspects. Viper would not exist and have the reputation it does if this is the case in the real world For the record, this is how the black F/A-18 "actual" data was derived according to Gvad himself
  6. This is what 3.6 Roentgen gets you these days
  7. Hey folks I'm not sure if this is a bug; but from what I understand of the Aim 7 I believe it should not be happening 2 x Mig 19 vs Quick Start mission Use Jester to acquire lock on Bandit. 4 second countdown. Aim 7 away Bandit Dives slightly Jester instantly loses lock as per protocol I re-establish lock myself. About to shoot an other Aim7, but my first missile hits bandit Expected behavior: Aim 7 should go stupid as soon as lock is lost. Re-acquiring lock should not change this See track file aim7 going pitbull .trk
  8. Well, ask and I shall receive. This is the full unedited recording of a live dog-fighting session (session starts at ~2:30) It's good to know that he struggles with Jester being mute in dogfights as well. I believe this is because his "dogfighting radius" is set too close, so he stops his bandit callouts when you need them the most
  9. An other method: Master Arm on Cage Mode Press CAA mode switch Next step might involve a little bit of thinking and using pinky switch. The designers of this plane doubled up the functions of the pinky switch. It's both weapon select and radar aim button that controls both at the same time. And yes, it was clearly an afterthought Anyway, If bandit is to the left-ish of you, then select gun. If bandit is center-ish select Heater. If bandit to the right select Radar. They can be slightly below and moderately above the nose for this to work. Your mileage will vary You know you will have the bandit locked if the lock solution makes sense. ie the reticle on the hud has unwound about the right amount (distance to bandit) and the display below the hud is giving a logical picture. If not, keep pressing that switch and try again Note the bandit needs to be relatively close to you. In DCS terms you can see them - aka It's a BFM technique not BVR If lock is good, it's time to count the Potatoes again and switch to Radar Missiles and press the trigger
  10. Easiest way to get you started Master Arm on Pinky switch to Radar (Aim7) Once within 5nm of the bad guy Point COD Aim thingy at the bad guy (or good guy; if you're a bad guy) Cage Mode Jester Context Button Hold 1 Po-tae-to... 2 Po.. -> 4 Po-tae-to Pull Trigger Evil Laugh optional, but highly encouraged Better still, don't do any of this and do the training mission which shows you an other method altogether
  11. We finally got a video from GVad. F4 vs A unreleased WIP Mig-17F Module with a superimposed TacView. A really good watch, wish he released a version with all the fights
  12. Hey team Have a look at your Syria BVR Mig21 mission. I can pretty much reproduce this problem every time. Jester ignores requests to scan at the same level (calls out a bandit at 7000ft even though I told him to scan narrowly straight ahead at the same level ~20,000ft Does not spot either of the targets that he is actually supposed to see (aka aimed at) until very close (well within visual distance) even though I pointed him straight at them. Once he sees them, often he focuses but unable to lock, focus menu has two targets, lock menu has none. Jester context presses also are fruitless About a quarter of the time Jester tries locking thin air multiple times instead of any of the bandits Inconsistency. Can only reliably fire Aim7 if I established the lock myself. Sometimes works with jester but usually does not even when establishing locks in the same aspects and speeds After the potaeto count-down, telling player to shoot whilst clearly outside of range is very Jester thing to say. Wrong, but probably correct as is Jester's dogfight radius is set too close. What I mean by that is that his bandit callouts stop mid way through the dogfight and only resume when the bandit gets very close again Jester does not call out speed during dog fights. He does this in the F14 though jester is worse than useless .trk jester is worse than useless 2.0 .trk

  13. I just play this song in the background and fly according to the lyrics. Works all the time, around 80% of the time
  14. Yes, have a look at the instant action missions - Unfortunately with the way DCS works, you have to enter the mission in order to figure out what the mission is actually about ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻ However the bombing missions are easily identified and have feedback system telling you how each bombing run went. Then you have BFM missions, which are on the easier side (I feel like the AI is nerfed maybe?), there is an air2air refueling mission over Nevada etc...
  15. I'm going to quickly plug the DCS Dogfighting Servers. There are a bunch of them, I am impartial to what I affectionally call the Corgi Server. They are best because the server is setup with 8miles of separation between you and your [very human] opponent with instant respawn. Unlike air quake servers where you boot up, take off, spend 10-15 minutes flying maaaaybe get to merge, you can quickly get into knife fights and instantly respawn to do it again Yes if it's your first time or you've been only playing against AI or the 'systems focused type' of players you will bringing a baguette to the said knife fight. But with lots of practice, (probably a bunch of Syrian Lead Turns) that baguette will become hardened, and you will get better Understand the basics, 2C, 1C, your rate speeds for the aircraft type and where your advantages may lie, but it's all about practice, practice, practice. They also take training requests if you don't want to get your ego bruised

  17. Yes, but that's because F14's is bugged. It undershoots under all aspects of flight, and you must lead computed solution unless your target is as long as a Cadillac. I believe you may have been taking part of those bug threads?
  18. Yes, I had to do a double take a few times on the air to ground thing. Like yourself, I palmed it off as a slip of the tongue The procedures you mention also work for me directly via the Radar function too. I do have a suspicion as to why they have gone about it this way. (In short in CAA mode Gun makes the radar scan slightly to the left, heat makes the radar scan straight ahead, and radar makes the radar scan slightly right <- to be fair to HB that was mentioned but raced over) I think a lot of people are aboard the A2A struggle bus. Even growling sidewinder suspiciously did not put out any gun kills; got called out for it; only to showcase the gun in A2G mode
  19. Hey Guys Congratulations on a successful launch of the F4E she is a beaut Just wanted to say that the first 3-4 training missions are the cats pyjamas. The best even - which sets us up for a real shame of what follows. Reminds me of when I was young, I would start a project filled with excitement and boatload of will power to do the best I can... only to mismanage and exhaust all that will power or time and have to quickly finish the rest before the deadline A visual representation is below: l As an example, in the A2A mission, the ACM CAA Cage modes which are the real meat and potatoes are brushed over at the speed of light by Jester's evil twin. Leaving massive questions unanswered (for instance, why were we in heaters to acquire a radar lock to switch to Aim7 afterwards; or something that is not mentioned at all the Jester do it all button, etc...) I understand why this might be, I just hope when the dust settles you will revisit these and give the start a worthy finish too
  20. Absolutely, I completely agree with you. It's incredibly frustrating trying to engage something like a Mirage2000 on the DogFighters Server. The pipper often misaligns so much that pulling the trigger when it’s positioned right over the target feels futile since the firing solution is almost always off. I’ve stopped relying on locking altogether and have switched to manual deflection shooting because it’s simpler. When it comes to one circle fights, the F-16 is even more of a challenge as you've noted. The delay in the pipper response makes the firing solution so unpredictable that it’s hard to know where your shots will end up, let alone if they’re on target. The most reliable method I’ve found for taking down an opponent is engaging in a 2 circle fight at low altitude, focusing on funneling and pulling straight through with a good pre and after fire (without waiting for the pipper to confirm)
  21. Its a bug on all modern ED Aircraft. It started just over a year ago. You will find many reports and many fixes, but the bug is still there. Its the same with the hornet. Unfortunately it has gotten worse, lately when 2/3 times it locks more or less correctly the firing solution jumps once you get closer to the bandit. The firing solution has 2 maybe 3 jerk steps within compute as you get closer. The solution is to pray and spray, start about an aircraft length ahead of the bandit and let them pass through your firing line. Unfortunately snapshots are unreliable and often are a waste of time, unless you are a god and can compute without a lock
  22. Virtual Desktop (make sure you have a good WiFi modem and a wired connection to the said modem) You won't regret it, and there are none of those messages and everything works as the gods have intended
  23. DisplayPort is overrated. The future is wireless. Hell, the present is wireless too as far as I am concerned With Virtual Desktop we can have our cake and eat it. Zack develops a headset. Sells it at a gigantic loss hoping to recoup it through his MetaVerse bullcrap. We buy it. Purchase Virtual Desktop from the store give him the forks and Bob's ya uncle My favourite thing to do when I am dogfighting my friend is to go into rolling scissors. He has a crystal. It only takes a few revolutions and he loses every fight no matter the advantage. His wife sent me a video of him trying not to lose visual with that massive pimax headcrab on his face. It is a sight to behold and I'm trully surprised his head is still attached to his neck. That cable upsets balance and gets in the way. It's just not good - WiFi 6E modems are super fast and have very low latencies with throughput similar of USB. It's not perfect and I get a few artefacts here and there if I look for them. So I don't look for them. The only part where meta truly grinds my gears, is that they only released eye tracking via their social API. It's literally only there for social chat and this is the reason for gaze latencies. There is an other layer that is super fast; our headsets have it but we can not have it for PCVR. We could have flawless super fast DFR, but no - Aaaaaagh!
