A beautiful aircraft just got a facelift in not only looks, but also capabilities. It will be interesting to see what happens on Monday, as that is the date when Norway expects the bids for our new fighter aircraft. In the mix are the Gripen N, and the JSF. My choice? I'd take the Gripen, no questions asked.

I know that here in Norway, JP8 is the fuel of choice. Not for drinking, I might add, as it has a VERY accelerative effect on your digestion. And yes, I am talking from personal experience... AB-cones on the RNoAF Vipers, who use the F100-PW-220E, varies in colour depending on humidity and temperature. Sometimes it's red/orange, other times it's got a purple tint with white tips.

It might be old, but the Phantom is still one of the most beautiful planes I know of. Good to see that the old lady will still fly!

Interesting to see them loading up Armor-piercing HEI into the Rafale there. Cool pics!

What would you spend on your hobby?
Fjordmonkey replied to 531-Ghost's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
What I would spend on my hobby? Easy! I'd spend as much as I could without being in danger of not making my bills, and most importantly: without invoking the Dragon's wrath (aka my better half) :D -
Neverending contest (military aviation knowledge)

My first thought was of a single-seat fighter-variant of the Buccaneer, but it doesn't really look like one. Hard nut, yep, but that makes it all the more fun. -
The second I saw that it's also coming out on console-systems, my thoughts went instantly to the Arcade flightsim-genre. Eyecandy, true, but still an arcade-game.

I second what TorwaK said! Awesome work

Since there hasn't been much happening in this post, I'll be so bold as to put forth a new challenge :) What's this: -

That would be a Diamond DA42 Multipurpose sensor aircraft, methinks. -
Birfy Hapday! Hope it's a good one :drink::drink:

My first guess was that it's either a Matra Mistral or a variant of it. The problem is that I've been unable to find any reference to the Harrier every flying with it, so I'm very uncertain. -

I've got one =) Name the aircraft type and the airforce it's from :D Bonus if you can also name which squadron it flew for and what it's current task is :P -
What Poko said :D Even if I have to walk from Larvik, Norway to wherever in the C.I.S. ED have their offices, I'm going to buy it. Starforce or no Starforce! (Just hope that they don't decide to relocate to Vladivostok or Irkutsk, since that's a bit of a stroll :P)

Groove's got it right. That's the JFS exhaust-door on an F16 :) -
Trying desperately to resist stress at work, where stress equates to the conflict between the violent urge that my body has to bludgeon random users to death using their own computers (that they've managed to FUBAR despite my best efforts), and my minds desire to keep my job (and my butt out of prison). Strangely enough this is harder than it seems, for some reason... Apart from that: playing different games, thinking about silly things to do in a KA-50 once DCS:BS launches, doing what klecko said (occationally pretending to be interested in what my better half says).

Emergency landing of polish F-16
Fjordmonkey replied to VMFA117_Poko's topic in Military and Aviation
Like the old SEC/BUC-system? No idea if the PolAF Vipers have them or what engines they use, though, but on the RNoAF Vipers checking SEC-mode is one of the items on the checklist pretty much immediately after startup. -
Slippery Rascal :megalol: No idea, though :P It's an interesting concept, especially since there's so many ASAT-capable missile-systems coming online these days. We might see a shift back to the more "old-school" aircraft-recon (one man and an aircraft need not cost as much as designing, building and launching a satellite only to have it shot down within 24 hours).

Shinshin (Ghost) Japan’s Stealth Fighter
Fjordmonkey replied to Kusch's topic in Military and Aviation
First image made me go "Wha...? Su-27-style canopy on a Raptor?", but the second one looks like the bastard child of a Su27, Raptor and 'Vark after they've done the horisontal tango in bed. Looks pretty cool, though :D -
The two last pictures are from when the Su-27's visited Bodø Main Air Station here in Norway =) Recognized the Mercedes field-truck and the civilian terminal in the background, and the building in the background on the last pic (That would be the Line-house where the groundcrews for RNoAF 331/332sqd has their offices and lockers) Nice pics all in all. Loved the first one. Looks like it's recently repainted.
