  1. Direct X/Windows sees my rudder controller toe brake axes, fine. When I try to bind the left wheel brake DCS will not recognise the axis, it will recognise the right axis. Resetting the Rudder binds to default results in the Left Brake being assigned to Pitch and the Right to Roll... DCS does SEE the left brake movement..but I cannot clear and bind it to the Brake... The rudder axis is fine, just the brakes.
  2. So relying on NWS too long is part of the problem. If I ensure I'm going straight and kick the NWS off as soon as the speed comes alive at 60, I'm then able to keep straight with a good amount of rudder... still it's a lot more rudder than feels "right" but at least there is controllability.
  3. It's possible I'm simply relying on the NWS for too long, so when I disengage it I'm making a very sudden switch from wheels to rudder and hence having control issues. I will do some testing.
  4. If you don't see that making comparisons to people who can do AAR refuelling in DCS and Modrić as gatekeeping then I'm wasting my time here. Disability cards? Good grief, are we in 2023? You might as well say, let's give paraplegics a goal to walk up those stairs by themselves one day. I think you're doing a wonderful job of sounding like a careless elitist without my help.... Excellent points... for all the gatekeeping and pedestals around AAR... many of the DCS Modrić's (I can't believe we are comparing our hobby simming to elite sports people now) couldn't operate in real world airspace if their life depended on it... DME arcs, instrument approaches, flight planning around real world style restrictions, when was the last time a DCS elite checked the NOTAMs? So any talk about 'realism' in this context is just that, gatekeeping. As a real IR pilot I don't look down upon those who haven't reached to "loft heights" of instrument rating standards... nor would I call for handicaps on players who can't fly IFR properly in DCS...
  5. I have read from multiple sources the Viper procedure is NWS on during the initial part of the takeoff roll, disengaging about 70 kts...
  6. It's *exactly* mindset like this that forms the gatekeeping. Your are sitting in superior judgement about the way you prefer to do things sadly. Then I guess in your world, if you have a disability of some sort, then just like you can't become a real fast jet pilot...you can't become a good DCS one either.
  7. Thank you, as has been mentioned by others, how much does crosswind affect the takeoff or rollout in DCS? I've not really had this modelled in other sims so perhaps not expecting it... Is differential braking normal for the Viper? I've not come across this for landing. Everything I've read indicates that it's all about the rudder until slow and then NWS? Thank you! But full boot on a takeoff roll? I've never had that in a sim or RL (granted i've never flown a Viper ! lol)... ... I'm tracking very nicely with NWS and then when I turn it off about 80 kts I often have to put a lot of boot in quickly and it often seems like there is a real lack of authority. I'll keep practicing, just this was a new struggle for me
  8. The " no patience to practice AAR" ... This is the 'gatekeeping' behaviour, that because person X cannot do what you can do it's because they don't have the patience, are not dedicated and hardcore enough... some of this is equipment related too, having a decent stick and throttle etc etc ... this is all part of the gatekeeping, if only people who can spend huge amounts of money (for arguments sake) can ever hope to perform certain things then that's a problem for the player base. I'm learning AAR now...it's a challenge but formation flying is as many have said is the key... if I never master it and need a help mode, I'm not going to feel like a lesser person So what if people don't want to ever turn of the refuelling aid, isn't this about enjoying it the way we want to enjoy it rather than the way somebody is telling us we should?
  9. So when turning the NWS off at around 60kts I seem to lack the rudder authority to stay straight down the runway... I need large amounts of 'boot' to stay on track. Similar challenge on landing roll outs, I need to get the NWS on a lot earlier than guides/docs would indicate necessary just to stay on track. Any tips for me on this challenge please?
  10. Agreed but there should be some settings on this...because actually not as many operators out there are doing IADS to the level that we imagine them to be at all... for various reasons it's actually a lot harder to do from a practical / training perspective that it seems.
  11. This is "part" of it....but many things are simply harder in a simulator VR or otherwise. Landing is more difficult due to the lack of sensations, depth perception, also peripheral vision plays a big part too. I'm an IRL ME/IR pilot fwiw. Yeah, sure they are a trained pilot...and do it with ease in real life...but then struggle in DCS.... that tells you all you need to know about the level of difficulty presented by tanking in DCS with the lack of physical queues and peripheral vision. If there is something that is hindering enjoyment of the sim for many that is *substantially* more difficult than it is in real life then I see no issue putting in an easier mode for those who want it. Gotta love the 'gatekeeping' going on in our hobby right here....
  12. Perhaps an aircraft toggle 'Auto boresight' or something might be appreciated....
  13. Great video. I think somebody mistook the Apache for the Viper ...although although I have no frame of reference, as others have mentioned, things get a bit iffy even in straight and level flight 130k + .... in sim I actually seldom fly above 130 as she'll do her own thing too easily.
