Flanker is correct it's a bug. I reported this game bug since 1.2.2 and earlier. Also affects the pylons and the bort number. On this skin the bort number is solid and when you zoom out it defaults to skin #1 along with the air brakes and weapon pylons.

A very good question. The bigger the size, the more details, the longer it will take to load up. If memory, performance and connection is not an issue then go for it. From experience I have always tried to keep my custom skins maybe a little larger than default but never double the size. I had good results in multiplayer.

I think I remember being hit once and lost only 1 hydro system but the 2nd one was not fully functional on it's own, ie it did the minimum required to lower flaps and gear for landing.
