Ukraine Boeing 737 with at least 160 aboard crashes
Weta43 replied to Weta43's topic in Military and Aviation
Really ? I Even if the GPS were deliberately sending signals designed to mislead ? I'd have thought that if the GPS suddenly told the aircraft it was 3000m higher than it actually was, the AP would then try to take the aircraft down 3000m - which would be a problem if the aircraft was only 1000m off the ground. I realise that if the AP were to suddenly try flying the aircraft into the ground the pilot's should intervene - but plenty of planes have crashed in circumstances where the pilots should have stopped the crash.... -
Ukraine Boeing 737 with at least 160 aboard crashes
Weta43 replied to Weta43's topic in Military and Aviation
Any 737 pilots on here ? I have a question after this background: I heard on Al Jazeera (& read on a website) that B-52s had taken of from Diego Garcia for Iran, and a little while later the POTUS tweeted "So far, so good!" The FAA then told aircraft US aircraft not to enter the region "because of the risk of misidentification". Perhaps misidentification as B-52s ? There's some discussion in the thread "DCS Unrestricted SATNAV" https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=258499 about the regional disabling or deliberately degrading of GPS by the US in theatres of conflict to deny the opposition the ability to use it. If the GPS were degraded & misled the aircraft's computer regarding the aircraft's altitude - could that bring a 737 down ? -
Ukraine Boeing 737 with at least 160 aboard comes down near Tehran. Best wishes to everyone who lost a loved one on board.

Every time this comes up it's been shown that the descent rate at which the DCS Mi-8 enters VRS matches the descent rate at which the actual Mi-8 enters VRS (People usually stop arguing once they realise the gauge is metric). It's not that the FM enters VRS too easily, it's that without haptic feedback, it's too easy to exceed the correct flight envelope. If you use a FFB joystick VRS isn't really an issue unless you're flying it unrealistically and really throwing the aircraft around - which it isn't made to do.

[FIXED] HUD: A picture is worth a thousand words?
Weta43 replied to randomTOTEN's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
But that's the point that's repeatedly been made - the fact that you can't see all the HUD from a single 2D eye in the middle of the pilot's forehead doesn't mean you couldn't see all the HUD with 2 eyes open in 3D. Even if it's rendered perfectly as it is in RL, it may not all be visible in 2D in the SIM. Asking if they can see all the HUD at once in 3D with 2 eyes says nothing about how accurately the SIM reproduces the HUD unless you're also looking at it in 3D. Could someone with a VR setup actually post a screenshot of the 2 eye's views from the default position to see if if is all visible in 3D There are posts saying the entire HUD is visible in 3D: -
My most expensive module by far... feeling bad..

Depends how 'fantasy' they want to make it... IRL it never had Igla and it never had a third pylon -
[FIXED] HUD: A picture is worth a thousand words?
Weta43 replied to randomTOTEN's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Nobody's arguing you shouldn't be able to see it all with both eyes open, but I can't see anywhere where he said he closed one eye & could still see all the HUD. It should be - in VR, not necessarily in 2D -
Isn't that essentially the 'Nirvana' that the WWII crowd want ? - to be able to re-fly the actual battles that were fought, and in which actual real pilots died ? If they re-create the circumstances leading up to an attack (x was bombed by y, z civilians were killed and n pilots lost by both sides), aren't they doing what you want to, but not naming names simply because the list is too long to make naming one person significant ? Why hide that we're playing a game that simulates killing people ? People really die in wars, that's why we should avoid them when unnecessary.

Still doesn't take away from the fact that the Russians have their own system, & that if they were flying F-18 / F-16 (s), that's what they'd be using. Even the legacy Su-25s have a GLONASS system bolted on. It's less realistic to give the REDFOR F-18 but deny them a GPS system than to just assume that if they had the aircraft, they'd make the GPS work off GLONASS.

Leaving aside hydraulic systems :-) If you can do something in dcs you’ve never seen done in real life, but only after learning how to do it by repeatedly crashing and re-spawning, the fact that you can do it in dcs but have never seen anyone do it in real life says nothing about the FM in dcs, only about the attitude toward death show by real and digital pilots...

How do limited SEAD missions with Su-25A (killing the Roland ADS)
Weta43 replied to pepin1234's topic in Su-25 for DCS World
The pod was good enough that the Su-25 was essentially immune to the Hawk SAM systems during the Iran - Iraq war, and the Hawk was upgraded after that war as a direct response to the pod’s effectiveness. -
But no animation for movement...

International Waters & International Law
Weta43 replied to Infiltrator's topic in Military and Aviation
He might have misspoken, but essentially he’s right. Entry for warships is governed by treaty, not a right as for international waters. Aircraft carriers are expressly banned, the Kuz gets in because it’s not officially an aircraft carrier. -

About half of your vision is made up from one eye seeing something the other can’t: -

You spend your entire life with your left eye seeing a different area to your right, and your brain is made to deal with it naturally - no headaches inbound. Look down at your own nose right now. Ever seen the left side of your nose with your right eye ? -

“the tragedy is that MCAS itself worked just as designed” I think you’re being overly generous to the Boeing engineers. They knew that under certain circumstances, the system could produce unexpected and potentially fatal behaviour that normal responses would not counter, and rather than fix that at a software level they tried to rely on training pilots to recognise the unexpected behaviour and counter the actions of the MCAS. A Boeing internal report from before the crashes leaked to The Guardian said the MCAS system would probably contribute to the loss of at least 1 aircraft before they could rectify the system. But they rolled it out regardless. The put cashflow and expediency ahead of passenger safety - no two ways around it.. If you disagree with Wiki’s summary, you should correct it: -
[REPORTED] High-quality A-10C cockpit switch logic
Weta43 replied to Redglyph's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Parallax. In 2D you look at the HUD from a single spot in the centre, in 3D you look from 2 places at the same time, 1 to the left of the HUD looking at the right of the HUD, the other to the right of the HUD looking at the left... -
You have a lot of faith in Jester to be able to say that so positively without seeing a track...

Frogfoot ~ Training Model ~ Purchase Model
Weta43 replied to Bartacomus's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
Personally, I prefer the”A” - a bit more primitive; no HUD or monitor, so no tv guided bombs, but still laser guided missiles, and a much nicer aircraft to fly, and cockpit to sit in... -
They are fantastic !!!

You think he’s hating on the USA from inside the USA ? (Surely the US ? ‘America’ is too big a region for someone to hate all of it) Maybe he just thinks there is this one aspect of the culture of the USA that could do with some improvement, but likes the people just fine ? I’m not saying I don’t love my partner when I say I don’t agree with her about her attitude to instruction manuals...
