  1. Hillock is a little too long
  2. Change occurs quite abruptly, shape of the two LODs not a close match

  3. Real time weather doesn't seem such a great idea for a military flight sim unless you intend all your flying to involve A2A above the cloud base or dropping gps standoff weapons from the same height. (...& if that's the case what difference does real time weather make?) Be a shame to log in for a mission only to discover it was postponed due to weather
  4. You mean like how you might buy a coat from a shop then take it back & say to the shop owner : "I've worn it to parties twice & no one paid me a compliment, so I'd like to return it for a refund"?
  5. Watched actual startup video (Příprava vrtulníku Mi-24D), Wags' startup video, looked at the quick-start checklist, the USAF checklist, searched the forum & internet (found a manufacturer's site with a technical description & a list of aircraft it's installed in), but nothing mentions turning it on - or off. What does it supply?
  6. Yes, I guess though that part of the problem for ED is that significant parts of the country is irrigated fields in arid landscapes, and to some extent really looks like someone put green stickers on a sand coloured background Even if you got it right it would still look foreign and fake to the eyes of many people: Afghanistan - Google Maps (That said, they could probably solve part of the problem by giving the stickers irregular rectangular edges rather than triangular faceted polygons)
  7. We do need some civilian wanderers so we can force more realistic ROE (not just if it moves, shoot it) Even a re-skin/purposing of some deck hands would be a start (though some women & a child or two would flesh things out) Also - for Afghanistan etc., - we have some fat cows, how about some skinny sheep & goats & a tent or two? (or even just a skinny brown cow with bigger horns)
  8. LOL - I've found that allying the insurgents with CTF BLUE (which might not be too significant a stretch) smooths over the gaps yawing crevasses in the 'Insurgent' set. Also gives them air and naval assets.
  9. At the moment you set a temperature, but the sim assumes that's at sea level Yesterday I set the temp to 1℃ (because you can't set negative temps on the Afghan map ???) then enter the cockpit cold start at Mazar-i-Sharif AB & found the OAT was -5℃ 6 degrees difference between the entered temp & the actual temp in sim is quite a lot, and that's not even a particularly high airbase.
  10. As for the title. Minimum temp that can be entered in the temp dialogue is 1℃. Leaving aside that the North is officially Tundra, on the parts of the map we have: Herāt has a cold semi-arid climate (Köppen climate classification BSk). Precipitation is very low, and mostly falls in winter. (...) The winter is tolerably mild; snow melts rather quickly, and even on the mountains does not lie long. The eastern reaches of the Hari River, including the rapids, are frozen hard in the winter, and people travel on it as on a road. Average Jan overnight low is -3℃ Record low -27℃ Mazar-i-Sharif (capital of Balkh province) has a cold steppe climate (Köppen climate classification BSk) with hot summers and cold winters. Precipitation is low and mostly falls between December and April. The climate in Mazar-i-Sharif is very hot during the summer with daily temperatures of over 40 °C (104 °F) from June to August. The winters are cold with temperatures falling below freezing; it may snow from November through March. Average Jan overnight low is -2℃ Record low -24℃ Chaghcharan (AKA Firozkoh : capital of Ghor Province) has a warm-summer humid continental climate (Köppen Dsb), with snowy winters and warm, dry summers. Precipitation is low, and mostly falls in winter and spring. Average Jan overnight low is -16℃ Record low -46℃ Because it's not possible to set the temp lower than 1℃ it's also not possible to have snow in any form.
  11. For E.D., not Bignewy: First: There might be 2 teams, but that is a resource allocation decision in itself, not an immutable fact of life. Secondments - particularly in the age of tele-working - make temporary reallocation of resources possible. Second: Repeatedly saying “we will update you soon” is not actually providing updates. Neither is saying “the work is taking longer than expected”. That’s obvious from the fact that the work hasn’t been released. What’s actually being done that is taking longer than expected: Retexturing? Reverting to previous map techniques? Improving the new technique? Redoing the terrain mesh? Are you still in the “working out what the problem is” phase, or “half way through the worst of it” or is it that “we think we have a solution and we’re trying it out on the Iraq map so we don’t have to double up work, and if that’s received better we’ll apply it to Afghanistan, or what? What is it that’s being done that’s taking longer than expected? I think the negative reception of the Afghanistan map was overdone. It wasn’t the visual feast we were hoping for, but it also wasn’t the unplayable mess some people made out. The lack of delivered work is - with a proper explanation - might be understandable. The lack of meaningful, informative progress updates since saying there would be delays is pretty appalling. As far as I could see, this is 6 months of references to Afghanistan from the updates logs: ”introduced a new terrain module: DCS: Afghanistan Map by Eagle Dynamics Introduced a new terrain module: DCS: Southwest Afghanistan Map by Eagle Dynamics”
  12. Dec 4th ? Any particular time-zone ? < 6 hours left until the 5th here...
  13. In attached track missiles fired from Mi-24 pass through the unit & only damage it by "splash" damage. PoorerAI.Skills.trk
  14. Yes, a tighter FOV is more convincing. I've been playing for the last few months with a 43" 4k monitor in portrait mode & everything life sized. (in that I have one of those clocks, and I have the screen about as far away as the end of my arm, with the zoom set so the clock on screen is the same size as the real one sitting at the same distance.) The cockpit's life-sized, and so is everything outside. Everything looks very natural, I can see the gages and outside at the same time, and spotting is a lot better...
  15. In game, depends where it gets hit. A lucky 12.5mm round can kill the pilot from behind.
  16. Su-27 empty 264 kg/m^2, Max T.O. 532 kg/m^2. 532/264 = 100% increase F-15 empty 224 kg/m^2, Max T.O. 546 kg/m^2, = 144% increase F-16 empty 306 kg/m^2, Max T.O. 685 kg/m^2, = 127% increase, but 29% higher than an Su-27 fully loaded
  17. "The Aurora also set a global record, becoming the fastest aircraft to climb from ground level to 20km (66,000 feet), completing the ascent in just 118.6 seconds. This beats the previous record, held by a highly modified F-15 “Streak Eagle” in the 1970s, by 4.2 seconds" Watch: Mk-II Aurora becomes first Kiwi-made aircraft to go supersonic - NZ Herald
  18. I play with the screen in Portrait (2160 x 3840). The Petrovich interfaces are rendered partially off the left of the screen. When selecting a target there's no arrow/indicator - but I don't know if that's the rendering issue or the arrow was removed. The problem's obvious in the attached screenshots (downsized to save space):
  19. Took off for a mission & for some reason my wingman decided to just land & shut down. Flew the mission, RTB & I found out why - he's standing chatting to the pilot & co-pilot of a helicopter I'd forgotten to delete from a previous mission that had flown across the map and stolen my place at the FARP:
  20. Thanks, but yes they are
  21. Fixed - I've sent the Russian Armed forces a note telling them to stop using the intercom to pass info between the cockpits because it's just not fair
  22. Sorry, accidentally posted this in the Mi-24P forum too. ED - When you're doing the Western part of the map, could you make sure the terrain around 35°20'38.4"N 61°11'20.4"E is well defined? null That's the site of the second biggest Afghani Mujahedeen base & operation Trap, one of the more significant airborne assaults of the war: Кокари-Шаршари — Википедия Операция «Западня» — Википедия 28 battalions of Russian & Afghan troops, 4,655 Mujahadeen, lots of Su-25 action, lots of Mi8 troop / rearming / food & water drops. Someone could make a good campaign...

  23. Hi ED, When you're working on the Western part of the map, could you make sure the terrain mesh around 35°20'38.4"N 61°11'20.4"E is nicely resolved? Kokari-Sharshari was the second biggest base of the Afghan Mujahedeen and the site of operation Trap - one of the biggest airborne assaults of that war. null

  24. Hi Rudel, Thanks, but yes, I'd found that thread before I posted (at least duckduckgo had found it for me :-) - I'd appended (& labelled) the 'view' settings into the 'server' file - but that didn't do anything either (in either the game folders or the saved_game folders). It really should work from the individual plane's folder in saved games though (that's what those folders are for), so I've posted it as a bug. If anyone can make it work now though, I'd like to know how...
  25. Wouldn't it make sense to have a couple of sliders on the options page when you go there from the SIM that let you set a min & max cockpit view angle (there's already what appears to be a currently redundant 'current view' slider that could be used to pick the angles directly from in-SIM), then write those to the options.lua? Like: ["Mi-24P"] = { ["Aiming_mark"] = false, ["CPLocalList"] = "english", ["Mi24AIColorScheme"] = 1, ["Mi24AIHideBoxes"] = true, ["Mi24AIVoiceLanguage"] = 2, ["Mi24AutoHandover"] = true, ["Mi24CockpitShake"] = 50, ["Mi24PedalsAutoMove"] = true, ["Mi24PedalsInputSensitivity"] = 24, ["Mi24PedalsMicroswitchLogic"] = 2, ["Mi24PedalsTrimButton"] = 0, ["Mi24PedalsTrimMode"] = 0, ["Mi24StickTrimMethod"] = 0, ["SPOVolume"] = 79, ["Mi24CameraViewAngleMax"] = 75, ["Mi24CameraViewAngleMin"] = 20, ["collectiveBrake"] = 0, ["collectiveDisengage"] = 4, ["controlHelperMi24"] = false, ["weapTooltipsMi24"] = false, }, If you wanted to get super precise you could have discrete slot1 & slot2 (etc) values, or just have 1 set for each aircraft (bounded by a universal max & min ED set at the current defaults)
