  1. Thanks Iron Mike. I just flew directly from the tanker (after topping up) to the waypoint (just to the East of the town apparently) and set up an orbit there and waited...and waited...finally I started to head back to the boat (heading west) when suddenly Jester established comms with the ground entity. I followed the vehicle through the hills, watched as it pulled into a small compound and continued on. For a moment it looked like there was about to be some action, but then nothing. Finally I had to bingo back to the boat. Is there another trigger I'm missing? Is there a way to see the triggers in the mission planner? Seems like I'm missing out on a cool mission!
  2. Reviving an old thread here: does anyone know how to check in with Romeo on the KY 28? Is this something Jester does automatically? After the in flight refuel, I can navigate the jet to the new waypoint, but once I'm there, I never get any tasking!
  3. nullSo here's the message I get when I try to modify the file. I checked and I have administrator privileges (it's my computer and my account indicates as much). Any thoughts, or is this now a moot point since it won't pass the IC anyway?
  4. I'd suggest that the time to have the waterline be as accurate as possible is during the landing phase. For that reason, I'd recommend setting the HUD waterline to match the actual horizon prior to launch (and prior to kneeling the jet), and then not touching it again for the duration of the flight, that way when you're in the landing pattern, you know you're getting good info.
  5. I'd encourage everyone to use it. I flew the Tomcat in the early 2000's - before transitioning to Supers. The Tomcat (at least the B/D models) are well overpowered, and DLC was useful in making fine adjustments in glideslope without having to reset power. Basically we flew in a slightly overpowered condition and "bumped" down DLC to keep the jet on glidepath. In a pinch (e.g. low at the ramp) DLC up could also save the day. This was a feature that was sorely missed when we transitioned to the Super Hornet. I know it's not specifically asked, but I'd also recommend landing with the speedbrakes extended and for extra drag, land with the external tanks. Even during CQ, we'd fly with empty tanks just to get some more drag on the jet. Boarding rates were notably lower with slick jets apparently as even just a very minor power addition was enough to cause the jet to float over the wires.
  6. Thanks Draconus. Here are my specific settings: GBU-12 selected (and displayed on the LANTIRN, with ORD in HUD), A1688, A/G mode, AREA track, CMP/PLT bombing mode, SGL, N/T fusing. I wonder if you only get those cues from Jester if you allow him to acquire the target using the menu interface? I was able to get some guidance from him finally (though not consistently) on targets that he acquired using the JESTER menu, but if I manually slew the pod using head tracking (from the JESTER menu), and subsequently designate the target (also using the menu), I get no guidance or timing commands. Unless I'm doing something wrong, this seems like a substantial shortcoming. How would one attack a building for example (or any other map object)? It seems like you'd have to hop into the RIO position to do this, but I'm reading about people complaining that once they do this and jump back into the front cockpit, JESTER slews the pos off someplace else...Thanks again!
  7. Thanks for your patience JeffreyC....I was able to locate and open the .hlsl folder using notepad, but that seems to convert it to a text file when I save it which doesn't help my situation at all. Is there some other program I need in order to be able to modify a .hlsl file? I feel like we're a long way from discussing flight sims at this point, but it seems relevant. Thanks in advance!
  8. Wonderful - and how would one go about changing a setting in a mod? Does that require a special program or application? Not a super strong IT background here I'm afraid...
  9. I feel like I'm doing everything correctly, but for some reason after I designate the target for JESTER (in this example a static aircraft), he turns on the laser, but never provides turn left/turn right cues, or timing to release instructions making it impossible for me to release any ordnance. Are there some settings I should double check? I'm using GBU-12, and MAN release. Thank you in advance!
  10. Not sure if this is the best thread for this question, but perhaps someone can help out. After I cue the LANTIRN to the target using the JESTER menu, the pod works as intended. I then use the menu to designate target (in this example a static aircraft parked on a ramp). Jester tells me the laser is on, and although I get good azimuth info in the LANTIRN repeat (VDI), he never commands me to turn left/right in order to center up steering, nor does he tell me when to release ordnance. The videos I've watched reflect that this should be essentially automatic. Does anyone have an idea what I might be doing wrong? Is there some other setting I need to adjust (bomb mode, laser code, etc.)? Thank you!
  11. That was it! Thanks so much. Although I still get the entire FOV in green, at least I can see and read the cockpit displays which is a huge improvement. Is there some other mod I need to do in order to get just a portion of the FOV in my Oculus II to have the night vision (i.e. more realistic)?
  12. So I apparently do not have a Bazar folder in the DCS folder structure (it did not come up after doing a search either). Is there some other folder the extracted contents should go into or should I just make a new folder in the DCS directory called Bazar? Thank you again.
  13. Awesome, I'll give it a shot, thanks!
  14. Thanks guys! I wasn't aware of either of these requirements. Neither of which I could find discussed in any of the documentation BTW.
  15. As a newbie here, I'm not following this MOD. I have the same problem with my OCULUS II where EVERYTHING is green when I put on the NVDs, which makes reading the displays impossible. Can someone please explain how to implement this MOD? Is there a file that needs to be modified somehow? Thank you.
  16. I've found the binding for the goggles, but when I try to toggle them on, nothing happens. Is there another setting somewhere else that needs to be clicked on? Thank you.
  17. Thank you so much - worked great!
  18. So I'm new to DCS and was happy to see this mod - even happier when I was able to install it and actually see it in a mission I created, but I don't see any way to add stores in the mission editor. Any guidance would be appreciated!
  19. Has anyone figured out a work-around? It's super frustrating - I was really looking forward to getting into some cinematics but this makes it impossible apparently. I looked for some guidance on YouTube and found this video: I'm not super tech savvy but feel like I followed the steps laid out in this video as well as the Grim Reapers video it referenced but no luck...set up a dedicated server using the DCS dedicated server program and the server GUI, then started DCS World as normal, and joined the server I just created, and selected a simple mission I made. Flew the mission, exited the server, stopped the server in the GUI, then went into my saved tracks folder to replay the mission I just flew (in a SU-33). Still corrupted unfortunately. Any one have any luck with this?
  20. I'm sure ED gets tons of input from users all around the world - if I had a direct line to them, this would be very near the top of my list of issues to address (that and the corrupt trackfile problem, which is frankly inexcusable IMO). I can't speak to all the aircraft, but the F-18 is remarkably accurate from a systems perspective. Of course the developer had to make some assumptions regarding classified capabilities, but the unclass aspects are amazing. I've had a few former Navy buddies try out the VR at my house and they're all blown away with it as well. In any case, I'm using a X-56 Rhino, which gets pretty good reviews and seems to work fine in all other regimes of flight. If nothing else, those users that are frustrated with the IFR should take heart that even a former strike fighter pilot who never had any issues tanking probably a hundred times finds this aspect to be substantially harder than real life. We already have the option to select unlimited fuel, unlimited weapons, and invincibility, so what not make this another user selectable option for those that are maybe not quite that much a of a purist?
  21. The US doesn't do strikes into contested airspace without EW support, period. For as accurate as DCS is, I'm frankly surprised there is no place for support jamming, either by the EA-6B, the EF-111, or the EA-18G in more modern campaigns. In real life it is certainly complicated, but provided the jamming is on axis, going against a known (located) threat, this would be relatively easy to implement. The jamming effects could simply be modeled as reduced detection ranges by the systems affected. So for example, while flying into an SA-10 MEZ without support jamming is suicide, hypothetically, with jamming, the detection range could be reduced to make this a survivable event. It would also improve the survivability of the weapons that would be potentially employed against the threat systems. In any case, it would add a layer of realism that is currently lacking.
  22. So I'll just quickly add that I flew F-18s and F-14s in the Navy back in the early 2000's and have tanked off the S-3, F-18F, KC-130, KC-135, and KC-10 in day, night, marginal IMC, and turbulent air conditions, and IFR in DCS is substantially harder than doing this in the actual airplane. The basket is much more forgiving in real life, and not having actual depth perception makes flying stable formation very tricky in DCS, even with VR (which is how I enjoy the game). Moreover, there's no joystick in the world that accurately models a flight control stick with all of the feedback it provides the pilot. It took me (and most pilots) a total of about 3 attempts and 5 minutes to make my first successful plug, and after that it was a zero stress event for the rest of my career, even after long periods of not doing it. Tanking was essentially treated as "down time" during a long mission when you could relax and let your mind wander as you came off of your CAP or were on your way back to the boat. By comparison, I've already spent a couple of hours trying to in flight refuel the F-18 in DCS for a total of perhaps 5 seconds in the basket. For those of us who perhaps don't have the ideal joystick or can't figure out the best curves/dead zone combination, I really recommend an "easy IFR" selection in the options menu, where we already have unlimited fuel available anyway. I'd like to propose implementing a successful contact by the following criteria: probe extended, airspeed no more than 10 kts faster than the tanker, probe within 3 feet of the basket. This would make up for the additional difficulty associated with what should be a zero stress administrative aspect of operating combat aircraft. Just my 2 cents.
