  1. I believe these protrusions were specifically designed for it
  2. The good news will be, that at a certain point, one can get no better fidelity than "lifelike" Once visuals are equal to real life, there is no performance gain to chase Whether we'll see that moment come to pass during our lifetime? .....Maybe (Not with my lifestyle though ) Just think back 30 years ago to the state of computer technology: Now imagine 30 years into the future
  3. For VR, low resolution, when trying to identify targets, most certainly impacts warbirds the most, there is no radar to aid you, and you need to get close just to make sure you're not lining up your sights on an ally
  4. With the Taurus retired, and it's follow up not visible on the horizon yet, the Orion2 having the mounting possibility Wouldn't it be an idea for WW to offer the PSU for Orion users? AFAIK, it was never offered separately, but they have the molds, and most parts are standard available items ...they might even be able to offer a bracket to allow use with Orion 1 versions (If it had been sold separately at the time the Taurus was available, I certainly would have gotten one to jury-rig into my non-WW setup)
  5. Even if I'd want to upgrade my headset, better VR gear would require better hardware, so I'd first have to upgrade the GPU and with that probably the PSU as well
  6. Ah, misread, I thought you needed a flip cover Since I've seen a few WinWing Products with hot glue, simply to prevent user serviceability, it wouldn't surprise me if they glued the pcb to the cover
  7. It would be cool if this was available for the Wingwing Orion 2 Where the 'stop' was actuating the lower lever and thereby blocking the upper lever from traveling backwards
  8. Thank you, I totally glossed over the Orion V1 manual I am, my old Virpil sticks out 15mm in front of the base footprint and that's without my fingers wrapping around the grip, which needs about 25mm extra to manipulate the buttons when fully forward The Orion seems to have it's levers mounted further back on the base, keeping the (F-18) levers within the base's footprint
  9. I certainly hope to get a few more years out of my G2
  10. I found the Taurus stroke front to back for the levers is 242mm, my old Virpil Mongoose V1 is 140mm But the only thing I can find on the Orion is that is has 80 degrees of travel Anybody has the range?
  11. Doesn't the Winwing Orion2 have a 3 position dial w/push (and Taurus PSU a 4 pos. dial)?
  12. I love the detent options, and the configurability of the buttons Unfortunately, if I look at the planes I fly (F-14/Spitfire/Harrier), this unit is severely lacking in lever/slider axis compared to an Orion2
  13. Latest activity on Reddit was six months ago and their site seems to be unregistered, so if you're saving up for that, there's a big chance you'll be saving a long time (But at least you'll have saved enough for a real HOTAS at a certain point )
  14. You can't simply put on the cover, but have to replace the switch as well?
  15. I use this function to trigger Fuel Cutoff/Afterburner in my F-14
  16. Any local print shop should be able to do your own custom stickers Any decent printshop might also have a choice in sticker material/strength
  17. Mind you I have the CM1, but still applies I use it as 5-way AND shift state for the F-14 As a 5-way it selects Take off, Cruise, A/A, A/G and Landing switches on the right panel while the Shift State assign the 2x4 and 3 momentary toggles to the specific functions required in those modes I did a (somewhat out of date) topic on this:
  18. So, been browsing for ideas and options for building my own button box There is hardware enough to be found for whatever function I can think of, but I guess the biggest problem is coming up with a layout, where one solution fits all (especially since I fly VR, where a button glance won't work) Then I came across this: Now I don't think anyone will be reconfiguring such a thing every time they switch modules on a regular basis, but the idea alone that you can mimic whatever (favorite) cockpit layout, or build a button box where you can experiment/replace/move switch locations/types without having to painstakingly disassemble everything while trying the best config, sounds like a win to me
  19. I don't think you're gonna see your money's worth Well, you wouldn't have to ditch the memory with D4 mainboards
  20. On the contrary, the base prices when doing a search on Ali makes it look cheap, but that's false advertising Because that $xx dollars displayed is the desk mount, when you actually click the link and select the product, you're looking at a $xxx+ button box Example: null (Yes, that's for a simple Made in China mount) Or how about Etsy: Now compare that to this: Or this I guess, the good news in this, is that this improves the position the likes of companies like Virpil, Winwing, Thrustmaster, DSD, the garage-builders etc. And look, I have a Virpil, VKB, Thrustmaster, Logitech setup here, so it's not like I'm unwilling to spend money on a hobby
  21. It was to confuse the Germans, letting them think the aircraft was slapped together in a hurry and would perform badly Now I nevere dived into it, so don't quote me on this The pump is probably not (made) powerful enough (for power and size/weight reasons probably) to retract both wheels at the same time, so the system runs 'in sequence' allowing all power to one, then all power to the other, instead of half power to both, benefit would be that there is more power available to overcome resistance for each leg Then again, it could simply be the hydraulics following the path of least resistance
  22. Just a bit of a rant. Don't get me wrong, everyone's entitled to ask for their product what they want. But it's been a while since I was looking at additions to my pit and last I checked, things were 'affordable' (Guess simracing got pretty popular). But now, if I reflect this to say a Logitech switch panel (which has a rather niche application) for roughly $100 (Tops), I'm rather amazed at what people are asking for a simple unlit enclosure with a few buttons, whether this be the good folks of the CCP or the "I make extras" DIYers. Want a few more buttons? That money could also get you an Elgato MkII, which is customizable (of course this doesn't do when you also want rotaries or sliders) but by then we're already out of the zone of simple and cheap boxes Well, at least it gives me the motivation to get a bag of 10 ct switches, rip open the carcass of my X-55 and/or G940 and go to town with a soldering iron.
  23. I had the exact same issue Thought about repairing it ...I just shelled out cash for a Virpil rudder, because Saitek is absolute crap (already had to fix my X55 rhino when all wires to the throttle broke) Apart from a better quality rudder pedal, it's also night and day difference in smoothness compared to the Saitek
  24. You gave the answer yourself: That doesn't sound like someone bored/fed up with their current set up Put that $$$ in something other for your rig
  25. I remember jury-rigging my own with a piece of plastic, 3 IR leds, an old powersupply and a PS Eyecam cam where I ripped out the IR filter Was done under $40 Regardless the cost, it was a huge improvement over FTNOIR
