  1. Thank you very much for keeping sharing regardless poor feedbacks. Keep doing the right thing (sharing). Believe it would help some people (more or less). The worst case is to treat here as your own record of mission creation.
  2. @Fakum there is no meaningful OC headroom for X3D serial or even any AMD cpus. Consider that portion of works have been done by OEM. Good thing is we don’t have to waste time to do that to get the best out of it. It’s there out of box. Personally I just set EXPO and PBO as it is to ensure I wont waste any potential (if any). But never spent time to see what on earth those improved by X%. Edit: before setting EXPO or PBO, make sure upgraded latest BIOS w/ 1.0.0.7a or above. Or facing low risk to burn the CPU.
  3. He said DCS alone with Pico. With that, Oculus is the enabler (w/ Runtime set as OpenXR). Doable to me. SteamVR could be for other Steam based games.
  4. Believe you guys noticed new BIOS 1616(non-beta) w/1.0.0.7a released yesterday to fix the potential burning issue for good and recover a bit of the lost reputation around warranty policy. Already updated w/o any issue and less concern with burning risk.
  5. @Hillman yes, worked for me as well. He didn’t say if he created CMD or BAT file which you pointed out earlier. With register changed to none and starting DCS(set as VR mode) via VD shall directly bring into VR @ Oculus (in nature still OpenXR eventually as it ‘s set in Oculus as runtime).
  6. @mbucchia thank you for your great efforts for even smaller group of users on Dynamic Foveated Rendering which is critical for high end headset with ultra high physical resolution. It matters to all of us eventually. Pls kindly keep us posted how those works with Varjo Aero and Crystal.
  7. Even I am no expert in this and not sure how this would fly as KST expected. But agree such Graphics setting guidance for VR is really necessary … should be from ED team who shall be responsible to help most of users taking the best out of this very demanding simulation. One preset for VR today with lots of Low setting is not helping most of users. Considerations: 1. A bit elaboration on each setting and how it would impact performance & how. It ‘s quite common for any AAA game. 2. Recommended VR presets for 3 level of typical HW config. E.g. something like VR Recommend1: 10900K/3700X + 2070/5700 + 16G; 2: 12700K/5800X + 3060/6700 + 32G; 3: 13900K/7950X3D + 4090 + 64G.
  8. FYI. My 3090 driving water High and cloud Ultra as I love both of them. Especially fly into or just above clouds. Ultra is even obviously different from high for clouds in VR to me. Of coz you may trade off here and there to find out your own best setting between fps, latency and graphics. Anyway you already had a good start.
  9. With 4090, water and cloud set as Low? Both are GPU intensive items but worth the image quality。
  10. Unfortunately, nah. The same 150mbps applies.
  11. +1 Same here with Pico4. Image frozen after headset took off, everytime. No crash recorded while nothing more could do but kill the process thread and restart again. No tool kit or something used. Only run it w/ OpenXR.
  12. @VirusAM @Lange_666 I only use VD w/ ASW on. fps maintained at 70-90 while latency is pain in ass which barely maintaining a bit below 60ms. Stuttering is almost gone after I used MT(but someone reported MT didn't make that better). Clarity is obviously better than my previous Rift S. But still bottlenecked by the capped tething transfering rate at poor 150Mbps. Do miss Rift-S which is plug&play but I still keep Pico and sold that in a week. Pico4 is nothing more than a transitional headset until next gen became reachable. Curious Apple's XR in a few weeks. Won't be something for DCS while could potentially shake up the whole VR industry. Also waiting for actual users' feedback on Crystal. Won't pull the trigger till it became mature. Aero ... way too expensive and dislike stations. And of coz, Quest3, but no like to come with DP support. So... same bottleneck it will have. Let's see.
  13. Pico4 is not supporting DP, neither a meaningful tethered streaming. Its tetherd streaming is in nature still a wired network and capped at 150Mbps. Comparing to 32.4Gbps of DP1.4, the image has to be sigfinicantly compressed. No matter how aggresive you setup rendering resolution. The bottleneck is there. So it is what it is. That's the common issue of standalone headset. 70-90fps @ 50ish latency seems already somewhere close its limit in DCS w/ decent setting, more or less. Far from perfect and depends on your requirement and budget. What you would look for, is a PCVR or standalone w/ DP support. Actually, we all here are looking for a next gen PCVR headset. Not exist at this price level yet. DPVR is new one and PCVR while check on the spec to see if it's your thing. Highend, Aero seems the best one if budget ok.
  14. Yes, it’s very similar way for everyone to do so. And .bat is executable file. as well .cmd which I am not familiar with. You could simply search how it works. Very simple to automate some steps … e.g. start DCS via VD.
  15. Since you are not using SteamVR, what’s point to change resolution slider? Just keep it as auto. And I would keep render resolution in DCS as 1.0. If you have 4090, might try higher 1.5 or so to get better clarity. For me 3090 just enough to push 1.0 with partial high set in Graphics.
  16. Nothing right or wrong by picking side. It's just about what matter you the most. 13900k is great for work and comes with 350W peak power draw... not every one enjoy liquid cooling to get the most from that beast. Coming to gaming, especially simulations, you would find X3D has more advantage ... it's matter of fact and no need to argue with. e.g. benchmarking by Tom's hardware...look at MSFS2020, F1 2020. Also if you check one popular thread here, you would see many 5800X3D owners' feedback there. AND, it only comes about 50W avg power draw during gaming. Another fact is: gen 13 is a headend platform. After a year, if you consider CPU upgrade, then you need to replace MB as well as the socket changed within 1 year. For Zen4, it's good for at least 3-4 yrs. So you may upgrad to Zen 6 with same MB. My previous rig was 4790K...so I would upgrade anything but MB which basically changing a whole rig for me. I hate Intel changing the socket design each 2-3 yrs. Pointless but just pushing us to upgrade whole rig in short period. Other things like PCIE5.0 channels etc. But depends on how much you care about future proof. Anyway, it's just each person's value & favor. Again, nothing about right or wrong. 13900K is still considered as top tier CPU which seems more than 50% of people selected as a no brainer. If someone prefer highest gaming performance, especially with DCS or MSFS2020, and wish to use MB for 4-5 yrs, and lower power draw w/ fan cooling for regular use, then X3D serial would be a great choice. FYI. You may find some benchmarks from Tomshardware specially around gaming: 2023 Gaming CPU Benchmarks Ranking. Look for MSFS2020, F1 2022 which is more relevant to DCS here. https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/cpu-hierarchy,4312.html#section-gaming-cpu-benchmarks-ranking-2023
  17. @MoepMoep @stottyboy Most of us mainly launch DCS via VD. Either right click VD icon and select DCS from "Launch Game", or create a .bat file and run that file directly. You would wanna avoid SteamVR in that way so have some more performance directly from OpenXR. A lot of usable info shared by quite a few Pico4 owners in below thread. You could learn more tricks if have enough patience.
  18. Now ASW working well in VD, we got similar PC setup, you should be able to see 90 fps quite often if not always if partial high setting with graphics, if you still had it. I guess you purchased it too early before it's getting mature.
  19. It's not that sensitive if the router is decent one(wifi6 or better). Both my headset and PC is about 3-4 meters away from router which in another room. Connection speed can maintain 800Mbps-1200Mbps. Occusionally drop to a bit below 500Mbps and restore back soon. Don't feel any interuption in gaming. So WIFI streaming is acceptable for now. Of coz ultimate solution shall be DP connection with next gen headset. Can relax with this set and wait for near future...
  20. Seems you are close to master Pico4 which only needs to take a few tricks. I also learned a lot from the long thread of Pico4 setup. Though lack of DP output, Pico4 still offers decent PCVR experince & hugh value. It's way better than my Rift S except the convenience, the latter one just plug&play. With ASW on in VD & portial high setting, I got 80-90 fps & ~55ms w MT version. Cannot complain too much w/ last gen GPU flagship. Enjoy.
  21. No one did a formal review yet. Even Seba from MRTV said it's unbox & 1st impression(again) on the final production. Closely following up the progress of Crystal's final release. So far its clarity is the king and ... that's it. It shouldn't take long to hear more as formal review from more mainstream IT media. Then we 'll have better idea to pull the trigger or not. No matter Pimax 's reputation so far. Cross finger to them & their Crystal and 12K... as we need more options who care about PCVR.
  22. Yes, DLSS will come next. If so, FSR should not be far away though ED team didn't mention it yet. But why not adding support to AMD. And it depends on VR or regular display you often use. Not sure how DLSS or FSR support VR in decent way. Maybe the best way is to ask around those 6950XT owners in this forum about their true feedback with DCS experince other than we guessing blindly.
  23. @LooseSeal Also suggest 7800X3D which is much more favorable to DCS or any simulation type of games v.s. non-3D V cache models. I sold my 7600X after only 6 monthes and upgraded this. It's no breaner to me. GPU... nothing is overkilled for DCS which is hungry for every bit of power. So... it's just depending on your budget. Anything better than 3080 should be decent. If not 4080/4090 today, you may wait till next year end for 5080/5090, like me. SSD: it's so damn cheap today. Envy you building rig today but 6-12 mo ago. Price of SSD droped almost 50%. Believe 2T comes with the best $/M byte today. You may consider 1T (system) + 2T(gaming) + your HDD for cold storage. You don't need 256+1T which way too small. Just look at how big of DCS w/ mods/maps, MSFS2020 with maps/mods. I am now looking at affordable 4T SSD to replace my 2T. PSU: 850W is decent today. If you plan to use it for another 4 yrs and ready for 5090 (guess 600W or +), make it 1kW ATX3.0. ... wow, sorry, you may need to reconsider your budget. hahaha, that's exactly how I ended up with "actual doubled budget". It's your call about how long your new rig planned to be used.
  24. @Koziolek I don't use toolkit. So would have to defer to others to help you on that. 1. Oculus software: I meant official Oculus client downloaded from Oculus website VR Meta Quest Help Center | Meta Store. It's used for portal/equipment management of Rift S or Quest2 headset etc. 2. The switch should be in "Setting"-"General"-"OpenXR Runtime". Ignore "experimental" which was incorrect due to my terrible memory. Hope this clarified your questions.
  25. @Hillman Thank you. I meant how to put command in .BAT file which requires a bit different format. Anyway you enlighted me to put below lines for your reference. In concept, one click to get us into DCS w/ OpenXR mode. 1st line shall run commands as admin, no need to right click to select that. 2nd line ensure runtime to be set to none, SteamVR will anyway change that upon it's launched. 3rd line Just open DCS in VD. But the only issue now is UAC prompt which I don't know how to set as "Accept" as default instead of changing how UAC down to "Low". "Start DCS in VD.bat4" %1 mshta vbscript:CreateObject("Shell.Application").ShellExecute("cmd.exe","/c ""%~s0"" ::","","runas",1)(window.close)&&exit reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Khronos\OpenXR\1 /v ActiveRuntime /d None /f "C:\Program Files\Virtual Desktop Streamer\VirtualDesktop.Streamer.exe" "C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin-MT\DCS.exe"
