A10C IVS (Instructional Video Series) - by Tyger
HellMutt replied to Heli Shed's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Very nicely done videos, helped me understand how to do some things I wasn't able to do before. Am already looking forward to the next one. Thank you very much, Bart -
Hi, with the torrent, you will download 4 files (3 bin-files + setup.exe), you can use bittorrent or µTorrent to download. When everything has downloaded (it's over 4 GB total), doubleclick on setup.exe to start the installation. Good luck, Bart

Black Shark: Voodoo Extreme 2009 Reader's Choice Awards
HellMutt replied to Airway's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
it has to be a lot more than that. Recon about 50 dollars per item sold, that would only mean about 50.000,- dollars. You can't have a team of programmers living off that for the two years that development of BS cost. And that's not counting costs (distribution, taxes, ...). -
Hello, I would like to report a possible bug, very minor one at that : in the logbook, the kill ratio doesn't seem to display correctly, probably due to the length of that string (see attached printscreen), I have 1400 AG kills + 11 AA kills, but the first "1" of "1411" is gone. The last digit of the divider also seems to half-disappear. The total string is probably centered, but the size of the label/column doesn't allow this length and you lose part of the displayed values. Kind regards, Bart BS_Logbook_KillRatio.bmp

Thrustmaster MFD Cougar pack
HellMutt replied to Vekkinho's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi, got mine today, picked it up at the Simware shop. Installation is pretty straightforward, first you install the drivers from the CD, reboot, then connect the two devices (USB). You set up some properties in the Control Panel (backlight strength, which MFD is device 1 / on the left, ...). There is no software to control which commands are being sent to your simulation, you have to do that in BlackShark - Options. The advantage is you don't have to switch profiles when you switch simulators. There are two plugins for MS FS2004 and MS FSX and preprinted cards with those profiles. To program the MFD's for BS, select a command (in Options - Controller) you want to configure, f.ex. Toggle Gear, doubleclick in the Cougar MFD 1 column in the row corresponding with the command, click a button on the MFD and that gets added, just like you would to re-program keyboard commands. It works OK in the game, I've only programmed part of one of the MFD's for ABRIS, Autopilot and UV-26 programming. It helps with the ABRIS as I did have problems before looking down and using the mouse to click on the ABRIS buttons. For the UV-26, I found that sometimes for one particular key, the command didn't get send to BS. This may be a hardware or a software issue. I don't think it's possible to use Foxy to program the MFD's. As far as programmibility is concerned, I don't believe there is anything more than setting up all your buttons to send a command. I don't think scripting is possible (that I could find, anyway), so stuff like BTN1 => Toggle Master Arm / SHIFT + BTN1 => Lower gear is probably not possible. It's easier than remembering all the different key combinations, especially if you program one side for one type of function (I have one row of buttons set up for ABRIS, one row for autopilot, etc.). You can apparently program up to 8 MFD's (4 sets). The MFD's have rubber feet, so they don't slide on your desk, you can use a slider for different angles (at least 2 different angles that I've found but more may be possible). I'm not going to build it into a pit, so I haven't looked into that possibility. Kind regards, Bart -
It's probably written in C++. I remember seeing a job opening on the Eagle Dynamics website for an experienced C++ programmer. That was some years ago (when they were working on Flaming Cliffs).

I loved Chickenhawk. It was this book that got me interested in helicopters, quite a while back.

I don't know if you can actually aim the Shkval in Game Mode. It's possible that you just have to move through the different targets and Shkval automatically locks on to them. Moving through the targets is probably ~ (tilde).

Consider me interested.

Very well said. I particularily agree with the part where you say that the developpers (and everyone involved with this product, like the Beta team, ...) should be proud of the final product. Few things are as rewarding as the feeling you get from a job well done. I hope that's what they're feeling, they have every right to, in my opinion.

I believe at least part of the problem is that in the KA-50, there is not Radar Warning System, so you wouldn't know when to use chaff, so what good would it do you to load it instead of flares that will save you. The version that is modelled is not the export version (so the Turkish version does not apply) and I suppose the night version and the other one are also not the version that ED modelled here.

Getting rid of my Saitek X45
HellMutt replied to HellMutt's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi, I've never used the Logitech with Blackshark, nor with LOMAC, IIRC. Kind regards, Bart -
Hello everyone, I'm at last getting rid of my old Saitek X45, the joystick that I started flying LOMAC with. After this one, I moved to CH, and now I've got a Cougar. All these old sticks are starting to take up too much space, so out they go ! The X45 is for sale here. I'm also getting rid of an even older Logitech Wingman Force 3D (Force Feedback). Kind regards, Bart

looking to update my joystick
HellMutt replied to locheil's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi, I've recently moved to a Cougar (from CH Products), no problems with XP or Programming. Make sure you read up on how to flash and upgrade firmware, you'll need to do this before first use. I'm using a profile that I found here : http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=33583&highlight=legolasindar. I adapted it a bit, but overall, it's pretty functional. Kind regards, Bart -
When the computer tells you "under attack", the Laser Warning System (left upper side of cockpit) will light up and tell you from which direction you are being attacked. This is because a tank is painting you with his laser. If you are in a hover, or relatively stable, he will fire and usually hit you. Best defense is to get moving, I usally drop the collective if I'm high enough up, use rudder to turn 90 degrees and move the cyclic forward to get some speed. You have very little time to get out of the way, when you hear the computer say this, you have to react FAST !! Flares do NOT protect you from this threat. Another warning you get (this one from your wingman) is "SAM launch from 2 o'clock", in this case launching flares usually helps. Also try to find where the launch is coming from and engage. Eliminate this type of threat before you continue the mission. Kind regards,

Hi, if you're in Game mode, you're probably playing Black Shark (helicopter) and not Lockon/Flaming Cliffs (jets), I don't remember there being a Game mode in Lockon/Flaming Cliffs. For Black Shark, the Producer's Notes are a great help. Also for Black Shark, the manuals are in the "Doc" folder, under "\Eagle Dynamics\Black Shark\". IIRC, there's a separate manual for the Key Commands in Game mode. Regards, Bart

I think it's very unlikely that they would start this kind of development for LockOn. To be honest, I don't think it's very likely you'll get something like this for DCS either. Development Tools for third party devs seem to be mainly for development of new terrain or new models.

CH Fighterstick does not work as advertised
HellMutt replied to chaos's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi, I just tried to do what you say and got it to work, so BS does recognize the throttle weel on the left side of the CH Fighterstick. Here's what I did : Create a "map" in the CH Control Manager, have it set up as "Direct Mode" . Make sure that on that map, the throttle wheel is set as DX Mode and Z-axis. Use Test/Calibrate in the CH Control Manager to make sure that moving that throttle wheel does something. Downloaded that map to the Joystick. Close BS, open it again and go to Options - Controls, select "KA-50 Real" and "Axis Commands". If there's anything already selected for "Collective" in the CH Fighterstick column, clear it and then click "Add". In the "Add Assignment Panel", don't touch anything, just move the throttle wheel completely up and down, the Joy_Z was selected automatically (on other occasions, I just selected Joy_Z from the dropdown-box). Click OK to confirm. Now click on "Axis Tune" and check if moving the throttle wheel does anything . Hope this helps, Bart
