  1. Hi, if you bought LockOn Gold or Lomac and then Flaming cliffs CD-version, the Flaming Cliffs CD has to be in your CD drive so that Starforce can check that you have a legal version of the game. Starforce will ask for the CD once a week, so you don't really need to have the CD in your CD-drive the whole time. There is also a download-version of Flaming Cliffs (that you can buy at http://www.lockon.ru) that only requires that you enter a key at installation and then never checks again. Once you get the program up and running, the manual can be found in de "Docs"-folder that you see under the Lockon installation folder (usually "C:\Program Files\LockOn\"). I recommend first flying with the A-10, as it is one of the most forgiving planes to fly. You should also view the Training tracks in FC and following site (http://flankertraining.com/ironhand/index.html). Good luck
  2. I believe you have to hit SHIFT-O six times in six seconds if you want to restart it while it was cooling down. I usually count till seven after firing the first Vikhr, and then keep counting until fourteen, fire the third, and so on. When shooting at tanks, I fire two every time because one sometimes isn't enough, so : fire two Vikhrs, count till seven, fire two more, etc. You won't kill as many targets, but your not supposed to hang around too long anyway, so... Kind regards,
  3. Hi, as far as I can see, the X600 has only 128 Mb of memory. I'm afraid your video card is just not strong enough for Flaming Cliffs (strange though that it worked for Lomac 1.02). You could try to turn the graphics (in Option - Graphics) all the way down to Low, see how that works out. If this is playable, you can try to up the settings. Kind regards,
  4. How much do you want to spend, and what do you want to spend it on (complete new system, ...) ? Kind regards,
  5. Indeed, it's a post from 2005 saying they are looking for C++ programmers for an aviation simulation project.
  6. Hi, If you're bying the download version : after payment, you'll get a new serial number. After that, you can use the downloaded program that you already have (no need to download it again). For the registration (Starforce), I believe you can do part of that on another computer (yours, for example, if you have Internet), but I think there's a code that you'll need for that that has to come off the computer where you want to play the game on (your father's). There might also be a completely manual process where you can call Starforce Helpdesk and they give you the code. Kind regards,
  7. Hi guys, there was a problem with one of the disks of Lock-on Gold, as sold by Evolved Games. AFAIK, they send you a new disk if you ask for one (I have no personal experience with this, I have the original UBI-disk for LOMAC, and then the download-version of Flaming Cliffs). This link tells about this : http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=21219&highlight=evolved+games. Hope this helps, Kind regards,
  8. I think the problem isn't so much putting a few "puppets" on the terrain. You'd also want them to act as soldiers, so you have to give them a brain, they have to be able to react to events. First of all, it wouldn't be easy to create a good logic for foot soldiers, and secondly, can you imagine how much it would slow your computer down if you put a few hundred soldiers on the map ?
  9. In case you haven't checked this : might be that you have the commands that start and stop Fraps Recording mapped to your joystick, and that you're inadvertedly stopping the recording (while trying to do something else). Kind regards,
  10. Nav lights : I believe CTRL-L toggles between OFF, blinking and ON. I'm not sure if it's implemented for all planes but I thought that it was. Could be wrong about that, though. Kind regards,
  11. 2 Allochtoon I read in another post that some people have problems with xp 64 bit (not many people seem to use it), so you might want to stick with 32-bit. The program you're referring to is called procaff and you can find it here : http://www.stefan-kuhr.de/procaff/main.php3 Use as follows : - Copy procaff.exe in C:\Windows\ - You have to edit your shortcut as follows : -> rightclick on your lockon-shortcut and select Properties -> change the target to #C:\WINDOWS\procaff.exe /run 2 "C:\Program Files\Lock On\lockon.exe"# (remove the #, but keep the double quotes) -> keep Start in as : "C:\Program Files\Lock On" (keep the double quotes) Procaff makes sure that Lockon.exe is started on the second processor (in Task Manager => CPU 1, the first processor = CPU 0). Kind regards
  12. I second that. I especially like the various SAM evasion tutorials. They gave me a chance to survive long enough to at least get to the target zone and shoot back. Thanks,
  13. Yes, I do remember Jane's Longbow (and played it quite a lot). Old to new (list not complete, only PC-games) : Hokum (helicopter game) MS Flight simulator (5.0 i believe it was) DID's EF2000 DID F22/TAW DID Typhoon Jane's USAF Jane's USN Jane's Longbow (not sure if 1 or 2) Jetfighters A-10 Cuba LOMAC Flaming Cliffs F4:AF Flaming Cliffs being the one that I have played most (both in hours played and in years playing the same game). I liked EF2000 a lot too though. Kind regards,
  14. I disagree. The monument to which you refer was erected in 1913, 100 years after Napoleon's campaign. The Russian war in Afghanistan is much more recent and those wounds have not healed yet. They may with time, but I don't think that time has come yet. Consider this : you know someone that is not a friend, but that you don't dislike either. You know of something in that person's past that will hurt him/her profoundly, but that fact or the hurt it may cause has absolutely nothing to do with you. You would get nothing out of it, no satisfaction whatsoever, but see someone hurt. Do you bring that subject up, just for the hell of it ? No, you don't. The USAF personnel did not know the Russian pilots that the monument is honoring, but they do know (or should know) that that war has left wounds that have not healed yet. On the other hand, moving the monument to Russia, seems like a better idea to me. If you mean that my opinion was political, then I can only say that is wasn't meant to be. I don't believe that I declared any positive or negative feelings that I may or may not have in favor of or against the past Russian or the present American presence in Afghanistan (I can't possibly be more neutral than this ;-)). It is just my personal opinion that it was a bad idea to restore that monument at that location. Nothing more, nothing less. That this is due to political context, both past and present, is something that is impossible to avoid. And I don't believe that it is "incorrect" to have a personal opinion, or even a political opinion (to which I'm entitled). It is simply my opinion. You can have your own opinions, but you can't say that my opinion is incorrect without knowing me or my political opinions better than you do. Kind regards,
  15. Very bad judgement Seems like a very bad idea to me : one foreign (by many in Afghanistan regarded as invading or at least occupying) army wants to put back up a monument to honor some soldiers from another foreign (by most in Aghanistan regarded as invading) army ! Can you imagine what the Russian reaction would be if the French would want a statue on the Red Square in Moscow to honor Napoleon for his Russian Campaign, or what the British would say if someone wanted a monument for some German pilots that bombed London in WWII and didn't come back ? The people that wanted to go ahead with this project clearly were NOT thinking about sensibilities of the inhabitants of the country they are in. Talk about an insult to the Afghans... That's my personal opinion, without wanting to make this a political rant.
  16. Tutorials Hi, you don't have to go through the hassle of reverting back to an older version anymore. The training tracks have been converted to video's by TekaTeka. You can find that here : http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/index.php?section=downloads&subcat=50&lang=en. Beware, though, the whole package (if you download all video's) is almost 2 Gb !! Also very interesting : http://flankertraining.com/ironhand/index.html. Trainingtracks made by Ironhand, some have been converted to video, some not. Every track clearly shows for which version it's been made. These are brilliant, and you'll learn a lot from these : it teaches you more tactics than weapons deployment (read the manual for that, or watch the TekaTeka-video's). Kind regards,
  17. mirrors down Hi George, see this link : http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=17829. there seems to be a problem with the mirrors where you can download the program and patches. Some people are trying to set up alternative locations for the files. Kind regards
  18. PS : if you're using the KH-25MP, you may have to drop the nose a bit, if you're shooting from high up. I've noticed in the "normal" KH-25L, that your nose has to point to the target, or the missile will not fire. You can see that the missile is good to go when you have a box flashing around the selected weapon in the HUD.
  19. Anti-Radar procedure 1. Go into Ground Attack mode (7), activate the Phantasmagoria pod (I) (you have to load it onto your plane in the Mission Loadout-screen). 2. Make sure you have an anti-radiation missile selected. 3. You have to position the piper over the targets (radars are indicated with a diamond and a letter, indicating the type of radar) and lock it (TAB => the diamond becomes a circle). 4. You'll get a bar on the left side of the HUD that will tell you when you're in range. When you're close enough, fire. Turn away and evade enemy's missiles if they're shooting at you. I believe there's a good tutorial for this included in FC (Training-section of SU-25 or SU-25T, not sure which) Good luck !
  20. It's allready been sold to the military (well to the Air National Guard, as a desktop training tool). See Wags' post : http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=16001
  21. Your Starforce activation is only valid for the same computer. If you install on a new computer, you'll need to re-activate.
  22. You can use voice recognition to convert spoken words to keyboard commands. There's a program - VAC - that you can use for this. You can find the program here : http://www.dwvac.com/. I played around with it a bit, but I'm not really using it. My girlfriend doesn't like me saying "Cover me" to the computer ;-). It really adds to the immersion, but sometimes it's hard to pronounce the commands clearly when you're being shot at...
  23. The utility you're looking for is the Lock-On Mission Utility (or Lomu). You can find it here (look for ) : http://www.airwars.lockonskins.co.uk/index.php?page=downloads&cat=45 You need to have the Java Runtime installed for the program to work. Bye
  24. Hi BongoKid, What I usually do is approach the enemy airfield, but with heading changes (don't let them get an easy fix on you). The Avengers will not be taken out. When getting close, line up with the landing strip (as late as possible), stay low. Drop bombs in one pass and DON'T GO BACK. Keep popping flares and chaff during bomb run. If you manage to drop your concrete pentetrating bombs on the tarmac, the mission is succesfull. Good luck,
