Nealius. SCLs can varry by theatre, mission, exercises etc. Back a few years ago Hawgs ran with Full gun, 2x 38s, 2 x 12s, LUU-19. Recently the 12s went away to favour the GAU-8 to hit movers and saw 4x38s come in of different versions of the 38 for low cde effects. I would be hard pressed to find any documentation from a government agency to provide any media with this info. But like me Im sure people post it all the time. Remember, just cause its an SCL doesnt mean a request may not ask for a different weapon. Super flex. 63

Ill put my money on the AC-130J just delivered with its planned programme for next year. 105mm 30mm x 2 Griffon AGM Small diameter bomb on wing and or AGMs and GBU-39 variants! Oh yeah. And cause its a J it will pressurize! I think this aircraft would be where its at. Dont really need multiple people in th bird if you just hold the pylon turn I would imagine. 63

JTAC 9 Line Training questions
RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING replied to Dirk the Jerk's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
Spectre thanks for the heads up. Truth be told my buddies and I want to see where this fella was going. We fully accept responsibility for bringing it farther then where it had to go. However Im sure you can get at least a little something out of it. Best. 63 -
JTAC 9 Line Training questions
RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING replied to Dirk the Jerk's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
Are you even reading the same conversation? Sad to see you get so upset but youll have to get along with others and understand there isnt just one way of doing business. Plus the 9 line is standard across the 5 services. Not just two. read the book and my previous posts 63 -
JTAC 9 Line Training questions
RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING replied to Dirk the Jerk's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
Is it not safe to say that obviously if he is giving a visual friendlies you have already talked him on friendlies? You mentioned you need to read back line 8. You can ask for a read back but it doesnt have to be done. Maybe thats a JFO thing. I can understand how friendly location is so important to you since your making the cas brief for the JTAC but do you think a JTAC will have a friendly read back if he is more than 1km out! Options man. They exist. 63 -
JTAC 9 Line Training questions
RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING replied to Dirk the Jerk's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
Your post says it MAY include. You may not know this but that means you dont have to put it in there. You may also have difficulty reading cause you seem very emotional. Let me direct you to my first original post (visual friendlies, tally tgt) EricJ what your preaching I posted in my first post. This is the second time I mention this. 63 -

JTAC 9 Line Training questions
RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING replied to Dirk the Jerk's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
Now your talking theatre specific SPINS (special instructions). Afghanistan is over. I would not encourage people to become as restrictive as that AO became. Keep to the book. And I keep forget you were a JFO. Not a JTAC. 63 -

JFIRE and 3093 says read back of 4 and 6 are the only mandatory readbacks. You should read it sometime. 63 -
JTAC 9 Line Training questions
RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING replied to Dirk the Jerk's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
If you look at my original post I state (visual friendlies , tally tgt). Are you not familiar with your own brevity? I stated you dont need a read back of line 8. It can be requested but doesnt have to happen. I assume you know what SPINS are. You should have read them. Couldnt care less about your comment regarding my nationality. Thats bad form. My intent is to provide this community knowledge on how many ways you can cut a CAS mission. It appears to be a competition of winning and loosing for you. Thats a shame. 63 -
JTAC 9 Line Training questions
RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING replied to Dirk the Jerk's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
Read back of a friendly position is not necessary. Thats a training must for training purposes. Now if your looking at Danger Close a visual friendly call helps. If your doing a Type 1 control and blow yourself up. Thats your fault as the JTAC should always be observing the geometry of the attacking aircraft on final. More over you I think you settled this debate if you will in your last post. Line 1-2-3 NA. No one here will start plotting IPs and key hole CAS. You then added readbacks. Do you really care if the pilot has the right altitude. Of course you do but we are playing an A-10 world right now where gun is where its at. i am confident no pilot will run their aircraft into the ground. Line 8 read back in the sim is taken away by the fact you can see them in the pod for the most part. Hence friendly centric cas is a sure fire way to get business done after safety and routing of aircraft. 9 line will be better applied when F series aircraft arrive. But for now why slow down the HOG. 63 -
JTAC 9 Line Training questions
RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING replied to Dirk the Jerk's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
You dont have to mark any locations. Just tally and give a final attack heading off of that. I agree not everyone here goes in depth but why through the JFIRE at them. Give them a simple 5 line and remarks. the same intent is achieved. Chris CDN. Are you at 427? 63 -
I know PaulKrii here actually works on A-10s and Ive heard he captured sound or the start up of the A-10C as you hear it in the game. Perhaps you could do the same and if the sound gets added its a plus for all of us around. 63

JTAC 9 Line Training questions
RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING replied to Dirk the Jerk's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
Forget the 9 line and just go HAWG wild with friendly centric CAS. The meat and potatoes of the 9 line are there anyways. Visual friendlies and Tally TGT. Remarks No over flight of friendlies, weapon selection, any required airspace deconfliction. GO TO TOWN TROOPS! -
Bino/JTAC zoom level sufficient?
RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING replied to EagleEye's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
Getting up close and personal is what has to be done at times. Cause then it just wouldnt be CLOSE AIR SUPPORT. But in all reality you could have large optics on armoured vehicles and for the dismounted men youll have binos. And youll be close. FYI -
Ripcord, IRL arty is a huge force multiplier. With some of todays technology available on the battlefield ground radar can find out here incomming rounds are coming from by analysis the bullets trajectory and speed. They are called counter battery radars. With that said Arty uses shoot and scoot tactics. The means by which a arty position FIRES one mission (whatever the desired effect is) and then scoots to the next location and repeat. Absolutely any forces in the way of artillery would move or continue moving. To stand the ground is suicide. Hope that helps. 63

I agree. The AH-1Z is like the A-10A becoming the A-10C in my opinion. And I will say my first encounter and some others with the Apache was not impressive. The cobra perhaps due to its lack of systems has always just did what it had to do. Cant wait for the cobra to come out!!!

You cant get around the pod solution here. Masking is a fact of life. Probably the best solution may be to incorporate a wescam MX-20 or 25 ball right in the middle of the aircraft where the centre line tank would be. However to change pods is a different ball of wax and would take away the air to air capability using the mx ball. 63

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
It would be great. Even if we didnt have a DCS AC-130, to incorporate one and do integrated attacks from the wheel with A-10 while AC-130 marks tgt, Dual target attacks others. Lots of fun to be had here. 63 -
JTAC question - Possible to use datalink?
RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING replied to Hoggorm's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
Just wanted to elaborate on the 9 line using the LSS previously discussed. Using whats called (friendly centric CAS) Provide your grid to the aircraft (he now knows where the friendlies are located. Always important. From friendly position give your laser bearing and distance. From there the aircraft should be at the jtac 6 oclock with LSS. Once he tracks he can call tally and prosecute the tgt. 9 line. Type 1 or 2 Bomb on tgt. 1. D 2. 360 right 3. 5 4. elevation 5. tgt description 6. north of friendlies 500m 7. ground lase (laser code 1688 or other) 8. south 500m 9. egress at your descretion Remarks. FAH between 320 and 350 (may include laser code here as well) Give TOT. LTL (laser tgt line 360) Its essential to give a FAH since when you release the bomb it is looking for the strongest laser energy. So if it sees the tgt thats great. But if you release the wepon infront of you the bomb would land on you since the laser is stronger coming from the device itself. it happens! 9 line and friendly centric cas is king. All this digital stuff is great when your in an office but when boots are on the ground you best have gps and know where north is. best. -
In the game I dont think the A-10A was ever designed to be in depth. The A-10A comes equiped with the PAVEPENNY pod that hangs to the bottom right of the cockpit. Its sole function is to LST (laser spot track). My understanding is that the pilot would be told the bearing and distance of the ground or budy laser energy and he would know what heading to fly on to best aquire the laser energy. An audio cue would sound then the Maverick missle tv would slew onto that known point. Only then could the pilot actually see that point on the ground. In the past year the pave penny pods are in the process of being taken off all A-10 if not already done so. The pave penny was never used to drop laser guided weapons cause the A-10 would always drop the bomb into the laser basket given by the JTAC and tgt coordinates were manually entered into the aircraft over voice procedure from the jtac. Best. 63

Negative. The same goes for other pods such as Litening, ATFLIR etc. However if you have a hard time finding tgts in the general area a tried tested and true technic is zooming out and changing black hot and white hot to be able to make out objects on the ground. In point track mode once you have a tgt the TGP can track a moving tgt. Hope this helps. 63

NECK I picked up on that. Out there for a good read. Eddie, I dont know what your scope is when speaking with the ED team but to follow up i have made mistakes when employing GBU-12 and the weapon in one case did about a 180 degree turn back wards towards the laser energy when in reality the seeker head cant see that far back. The bomb should have just landed in the basket. FYI. 63
-
NECK, At this time you can only deliver JDAMS in CCRP mode. Although a grid is update by pod doesnt make it a BOT delivery. Be aware that the JTAC can use any grid he gets but in those cloudy days its recommended strongly he use specific computer programs with special software that allows him to pull a mensurated grid. If the grid is taken simply by plugging bearing and distance into his gps the error in the grid can be huge! A category 1 grid which is the only grid an aircraft should drop a weapon for you is an error of 1-6meters and there is not alot of systems out there that can do that. . I.E. a category 2 or 3 coordinate depending on where the aircraft is etc. (best place to grab the grid is 90 degrees over the target. Im sure you know but in reality JTACs can ask for in remarks a "Weapon attack heading" in lieu of a "aircraft final attack heading". However the game is not modeled this way. The GBU-39 for example is under review because no one can tell where it goes in flight. It has actually performed a loop and turned back around and still made it to tgt but its impossible to tell before the computer is rescripted how it gets to tgt without clearing the entire airspace around it for propper aircraft deconfliction. So I dont mind that ED didnt simulate that. However the fuzing is important and unless i missed it I can not adjust it. Its a shame for those light vehicle groups and infantry in the open.

The video is a great example of the time hack however only once! Essentially he did a hack at every minute cause the game plan with the band was going faster and faster ahead of schedule. A note to take away from it is whoever is giving the hack to advise of the time hack. State time... Ready, Ready Hack then repeat the time of the hack. Scenarios where you can see this for example is when working with ground forces and they requires tgts destroyed at specific times that support the ground scheme of maneuver or when working split flights or multiple flights and want simultaneous effects on multiple tgts for example. Practice is important. 63
