  1. The only problem I come accross using the AP is changing to a new heading in a hover. Sometimes you have to hold onto some rudder while you trim. Your rudder is then set off of center and may mean another turn in the opposite direction plus trim to get it recentered. My workaround is using the 'turn to target' to direct the helicopter in a hover, but it seems like a bit of bodged solution on my part or am I being over sensitive about not having centered pedals?
  2. Is a helicopters fuel consumption effected much by altitude? By this I mean, how long a journey must I be undertaking for it to be worth flying high (and by high I mean say 3000m) or will I get just as good performance staying in the weeds?
  3. Agreed. The bashing of Vista is boring. The only thing against it is you need a decent spec system, but if you've got one then it's invisible and for me works better than XP in many little, but noticable, ways. Really, Vista is a non-issue 99% of the time. The fact BS runs silkily smooth with multiple threads is an unexpected icing on the cake.
  4. Okay, I just went and flew this mission and I got the same result. Hit the three ZSUs (and a friendly BTR 80..oops!), the heli's did their bit but still only 50%. I shall refly with pleasure!:)
  5. You do know you can download the english version at the moment right?;) As for the mission, sorry can't help there - it's my next one.
  6. I must say I find doing this in the BS very hard and really highlights the advantage of a two man crew - twiddling with the Shkval to get the cursors on target while manouvering is bloody hard!:) Thinking about it, maybe I need to use padlock and the HMS more! Closing into guns range is, for me, far too dangerous (although of course I do it in BS) - you can end up in threat envelope of manpad real fast. In real life, I'd behard pressed to ever want to be within 6km of anywhere the enemy could be. I'm amazed that in Iraq there haven't been more US helicoter loses - I can only assume the Iraq's didn't have many Iglas. One day someone's airforce is going to be in for real shock if they fight an organised enemy with a healthy stock of IR SAMs...
  7. I find that giving wingmen the 'engage ground targets' order or the 'resume mission and rejoin' order (I know these are not the exact wordings) rather than the specific 'attack my target' (or datalink target) orders results in wingman standing off to attack rather than running in and getting blow away. Last night I set and gave my wingman the 'go to datalinked location' command and then the engage mission and rejoin. They stood off nicely at the datalinked locations and smoked everything in sight! I still want to do some testing to exactly confirm the behaviour they will exhibit when given particular commands though.
  8. It's not often mentioned that F4 campaigns get repetative pretty quick after 15-20 sorties. I think it's all to do with one's attitude going into a mission: enjoy the fight and you'll always have fun. :)
  9. I must say, I find it odd when nav fix points are entered in a mission without an explanation as to what the reference point is or looks like. Surely you need to be told in the briefing 'nav fix over so-and-so point', otherwise you'll have no idea if your in the right place to do it. Is just do a fly over point fix using the ABRIS accurate enough? To be fair, it is a BIG manual! :smartass:
  10. I use a 3-3-1 set up but after reading this thread I think it might be too reactive as I burn through my stores pretty quick once I'm under fire. This game really makes me wonder why aircraft are not mounted with far more flares than they are - never mind 64 in each wing, give me 128! Nay 256! As Manpads are undetectable active dumping of flares is essential, but not entirely feasible.
  11. I have to say, I feel the smoke duration seems pretty realistic in the way it kinda hangs around for a few moments.
  12. Told you he da man!
  13. While not being the night vision we'd like, you must admit, you'd get nowhere flying without them at night anywhere other than a totally flat area. Thanks to BS's 'True Darkness' flying near hills or mountains at night equals flaming pancake in no time! :prop:
  14. I played one of the campaign missions where one does this - absolutely awesome! (I'll say no more about it incase some of you haven't played it yet). :)
  15. Good idea. +1. Another idea would be for ED to rate missions, so missions passing muster got put in an 'official' missions area where you're assured of quality. Btw, is it me but are some of the missions from the Russian version missing from the english version? Any particular reason for this?
  16. NVG are okay for flying in the dark but targeting stuff smaller than a house seems very hard - I can hardly see anything when looking through the hud (I end up flying 20-30 degrees off axis to spot things!) Not recommended - go back to your tent and wait for day break! I dare say the NVGs in the game are far more real than the usual same-as-day-but-green googles of other sims.:)
  17. Maybe PM Glowing Amraam? He da man when it comes to making vids!
  18. I disagree. I'm on mission four of the Russian campaign and find the scripted radio messages and events very engrosing. It's not dynamic, but it still a lot of fun! Plenty of replayability available. It's all in the skill of the designer.
  19. Classic! lol! :D
  20. Indeed. +1
  21. Bradmick: don't know if you've seen this post by Wags, but being a trainee Apache piolet I think you'd be a good canditate to reply to it: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=31840
  22. Is LINDA a boys name in Russia?
  23. In word, no. Your best bet is printing of the book(!) of key commands.:) Not sure about your second question. I think pressing esc to pause the game and then canceling the dialoge box that appears does it.
  24. I recommend using the helmet mounted sight for targeting AA contacts. If you padlock the bandit while using the helmet mounted sight and hold the uncage Shkval button the Shkval will slew onto the target and you can lock him up. I haven't used Vikhr against an AA target but I found the cannon works best against low aspect targets (i.e when your at their six o'clock).
  25. I have enough trouble landing on the pad on my choice at a FARP without drifting all over the place, let alone a train! It's not the landing softly bit, it's the landing where you want bit! heh heh! :D
