'Laser' Malfunction after RE-ARM bug - any news?
McVittees replied to Dropbear's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
It would help if there was an output log at the end of a mission with system failures, so we could see if the laser range finder (or anything else for that matter) had failed due to system modeling and not a bug (I've already mentioned this in the wish list so apologies for repeating here). -
No Radar warning, no radar guidance, no radar SAMs?
McVittees replied to oho's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I had no idea that the AH-64A never carried flares! Wow! For a minor military buff that's a top 'did you know' for me! Do '64A's still in service (by the US or other nations) continue to not use flare dispensers? It seems hard to believe. -
Not true. As the upper and lower blades rotate in different directions they generate lift on different sides of their respective rotor disks. As a result of blades tendancy to bend upwards on the side of the rotor disk where they are generating more lift the rotor disks will appear to flex symetrically but definitely not in parallel. If they flexed in parallel the blades would never collide.

Overspeeding, applying lots of rudder at high speed, hard manuvering while pulling a lot of pitch...

Auto Turn to Target not working (solved!)
McVittees replied to RichardG's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Agreed. I can't fly without it on anymore. I guess if you have rudder pedals you can tell where they're trimmed by the position of your feet. As a side note, does anyone know if you can make the view controls box a little less obtrusive? Either more transparant, smaller or another colour. -
When you 'reset' do you mean re-cage?

Nice pics! I love the area being covered with trees! Absolutely, hence just fiddling with the tree settings.:D The eye candy makes up for this imo. However, playing Matt's mission (something pirates) it is real tough spotting the SAM teams (so tough in fact that after four tries I gave up and watched the track replay to find them!)

First, make sure you download a program called Notepad++. You'll need it to edit a .cfg file and ED recommend you use this program and not notepad. Anyway, go to #:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\Config\ and find a file called graphics.cfg. Inside it look for the section headed 'Camera' and then find the 'trees' values for your current graphics setting (I'm on medium as you can see below: 'current= "medium";'). I'm not sure what the two values represent (I think the second is rendering distance...) but bumping up the second means I have ALOT more trees! Below is the Camera section of my graphics.cfg file. Notice how my 'trees=' values in medium is way higher than those in 'high' {1000, 15000} vs {1000, 9000} Camera { current = "Medium"; Low { near_clip = 0.2; middle_clip = 4; far_clip = 60000; structures = {30, 2000}; trees = {1000, 3000}; dynamic = {300, 20000}; objects = {3000, 80000}; mirage = {3000, 20000}; surface = {10000, 50000}; lights = {50, 10000}; lodMult = 1; lodAdd = 100; } Medium { near_clip = 0.2; middle_clip = 4; far_clip = 80000; structures = {60, 6000}; trees = {1000, 15000}; dynamic = {300, 20000}; objects = {3000, 80000}; mirage = {3000, 20000}; surface = {14000, 80000}; lights = {100, 30000}; lodMult = 1.5; lodAdd = 0; } High { near_clip = 0.2; middle_clip = 4; far_clip = 80000; structures = {60, 6000}; trees = {1000, 9000}; dynamic = {300, 20000}; objects = {5000, 80000}; mirage = {3000, 20000}; surface = {20000, 80000}; lights = {200, 80000}; lodMult = 1.5; lodAdd = 0; } Suprisingly, the framerate hit for increasing the number of trees appears to be minimal (I noticed no framerate difference) Increasing the values for buildings does incur much more of a hit. I think this is because the trees are rendered as simple sprites and are mainly just extra work for the graphics card (which BS does not generally over tax), while rendering builidings has a CPU hit because of the extra geometry, AI LOS and movement calculations that become required. trees = {1000, 6000}; trees = {1000, 15000}; Not the best pics I know, but at least you can see how the trees cover far more of the mountains in the distance.

Wingy: "Two, shat." Player, "What?"
McVittees replied to ericinexile's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I wondered this myself. Have a look here for the answer: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=36287 -
yes it is - you need to modify your graphics config file. I posted how to do it on SIMHQ (which I can't access at work). I'll put it up later.

Nice find. Thanks for pointing it out! I'll definitely be using this one. -
Really good review - nice! Comment left. Is there a release date for the boxed version yet?

Best way to avoid incoming missiles?
McVittees replied to jason_peters's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
When the IR seeker code gets updated, I hope they update the MANPAD unit intself. At the moment I think they have unlimited reloads or at least three. The number of reloads should be a mission designer variable or reduced to one. Then if you wanted more missiles you would add more shooters. I don't know how MANPADS are deployed in modern armies but I'd assume one man doesn't lug around three or more missiles without somekind of support vehicle/team. -
What he said. Windows 7 = Window Vista-a-bit-lighter. Don't believe the hype.

Surely the whole point of BS is the flight modal?

Air-to-Air - how? (Possible campaign spoiler!)
McVittees replied to Pizzicato's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Have you tried holding down the uncage/designate button? This slaves it to where your looking should ensure it stays on target while you press the target lock button. Also, keep the target size brackets to their smallest setting. -

What's being fixed in the upcoming patch?

Lol! I'm sure this will spawn another 100 threads about trimming! :megalol: -

I haven't tried that but saw someone do it on Youtube. Looked cool, must try it for myself! -
Anyone else think their wingmen say 's**t' sometimes when they hit something or am I imagening it? Could be 'Shack' I suppose.:P Ideas?

I'm in the Vikhr is useless boat. Shot an Mi-24 with one and it bounced off! Rely on guns now to do my dirty work. May be using wrong AA settings - haven't replayed or tested to see.

Air-to-Air - how? (Possible campaign spoiler!)
McVittees replied to Pizzicato's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Get on his six and go guns! Easiest and most satisfying method. :) Serioulsy though, use HMS, padlock the bandit and then uncage the shkval. This will slew the Shkval over what your looking at. Using the smallest target size setting and being real close (<1km) helps too. Alternatively, let your wingman loose on 'im. They're pretty good versus bandits (by that I mean better than me!) -

McVittees replied to Nate--IRL--'s topic in Bugs and Problems
Why do you assume there is a patch? I haven't heard mention of one. There doesn't seem to many pressing things that need fixing. -
Did you leave the throttle in the auto position all the way through the dive?

>>> TRACK IR at the rescue <<<
McVittees replied to Francous's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I've got a track IR 2 unit in one of my cupboard. Will it work with BS/Vista? Aside from the 6DOF stuff, is it as good as the later models?
