  1. here ya go.
  2. Exactly, I'm sure the CFI was making sure he didn't dance the rudder pedal or over rotate on takeoff, didn't overspeed the flaps, kept his speed up on base to final and didn't break the nose gear on landing. The rest is a peice of cake :)
  3. I'm sure most serious armchair pilots could fly a pattern. I was a sim pilot long before I got my ppl. For me the two things that had the biggest learning curve were getting the "feel" of how an airplane reacted to moving the flight controls. You can tell he was tentative to add full power on takeoff roll and didn't put in enough rudder to counter p-factor. The second was how easy it is to get overwhelmed by the work load in the actual airplane. Both get easier over time. As far as preciedures go, they are identical IMO and sims were very helpful on both my IR and commercial ratings
  4. that cockpit looks like a home built GA panel. I have seen most of these avionics before, being a aspiring builder myself. That being said, i have seen Vans RVs that have panels twice as blinged out as this. Reading the yahoo comments on this story are hilarious. If this has a serious purpose (other then propaganda) i can maybe see it as a manned aircraft to test radar cross sections or something. It definatly does not have a radar, much less employ any type of weapon system. I hope it has a fancy FCS . You couldn't pay me to fly this thing
  5. goood ole vapor bug! Like stated above it has more to with the high alpha of those maneuvers and not many do alpha like the bug also the higher the moisture in the air the lower the dew point much like the formation of clouds in the sky.
  6. http://www.scribd.com/doc/51274840/F18-ABCD-000 herya go. there will be a test at the end
  7. hmm gonna have to hold out for the Honda jet myself:smilewink:. BOT. looking foward to the new patch
  8. The only thing that seems odd to me is many of these a/c have never been mentioned by ED or 3rd party. It would seem that skimming through a list of future development stuff without the "official announcement" that are always so fun around here seems to steal some of the 3rd party's thunder. Not that, that stuff matters to me. I'm just excited that my hobbie has a bright future.
  9. For now. Good enough for me. Thank you
  10. I'm pretty sure by now anyone involved with ED knows that even using the word hornet around these parts will bring this place down. :)
  11. Ha! Even though I already own all of the recent ED products related to DCS world, this video make me want to buy them all over again. Great job! You guys have a paying customer for life.
  12. I too would like a Linkey for this info, that is really exciting indeed
  13. So my cousin is finishing his training as a marine helo pilot and invited me to come out for a tour of the facilities and aircraft. In one of the restrooms I came across one of these magazines sitting on the counter. It is an aviation safety magazine with firsthand accounts of situations that could have possiblely gone terribly wrong. Each issues seems to have a theme such as icing, equipment failures and hypoxia. It was interesting to read how the best in the business handle each situation. I've burned though a few issues now and it's also interesting to read of at least four pilots experiances of hypoxia in the hornet so far. The single engine traps are also a good read. As I look for anything to kill time between DCS plane, check it out in the public navy site. http://www.public.navy.mil/navsafecen/Pages/media/approach/approach.aspx PS. In one account a hornet pilot writes worrying about blowing a tire after having to divert to near by airfield because of the added pressure in the tires during and carrier ops and he was also concerned about how well the brakes would work having not been used during a long deployment at sea. IF the DCS next is a carrier based A/C, I wonder how this could be implemented.
  14. I also have xp10. I do think is gives a satisfying representation of flying. For that reason I used it as a tool to help with my IR. The main thing the keeps my from making it my main civi sim is the whole cloud and smoke business, the clouds look good overall but the draw distance makes it feel you're being fallowed by a rain cloud or something and the smoke "puffs" when landing are a little silly. It's hard to beat going vertical in the superbug and break out of REX produced layer. Obviously these are addons but it is what it is. Still sometimes FSX feel like I'm playing in front of a fancy facade if that makes sense. I don't feel like I'm part of the world. That what DCS does for me.
  15. Yup. 50 bucks will get you a pretty good representation of the garmin complete with LPV approaches and terrain warnings with realityxp. Was pricless while trying to master my FBOs 430
  16. From a military strategic standpoint, the destroyed aircraft are more valuable then a few personel. What is sad is that the Taliban has no problem sending its own people to their certain death just to destroy a few planes, bearly a setback as far as our over all military strategy goes.
  17. looks like the CO of VMA-211 was one of the marines KIA. Very tragic compounded by the fact that these air frames were destroyed sitting idle on a ramp. http://www.fox43.com/news/wpmt-pennsylvania-marine-killed-in-afghanistan-air-base-attack-20120917,0,4404198.story?track=rss

  19. ok well this too. no advantage to imputing them manually that i know of. Remember to switch between light and dark contrast when searching for targets, also check out the mission planner screen and compare landmarks around your target area. I know easier said then done. Even for the guys that do this for a living, target ID is still tough with the MK1 eyeball.
  20. What really helped me was becoming very familiar with the HOTAS and all of its functions. I used to spend alot of time trying to fly with my left hand and mousing with my right. A/P is your friend! Once you get the location from JTAC orbit in a safe area while you input on CDU. Take your time. No bonus for rushing in guns blazing. Thrustmaster MFDs also helped eliminate alot of switchology SNAFUs while flying. I found the patience part really lowered my death total. Now i take the time to research the threats and avoid them all together. I have spent an hour over the battle field searching for targets, even topping off at the tanker once. Accually very rewarding to return home after an hour or so in the air.
  21. Private pilot about 350 hours all civilian. Work with C-17, KC-10 and C-5 everyday as a structural mechanic. gotten a few rides on all three

    OMG

I used to have a problem with the "uber" AI also. There was a a thread on here somewhere about how the AI needs to be tweaked and "unlimited energy". Slowly more and more people began posting on how they got the bugger and tips on how they did it. He is no pushover but he can be beat on a regular basis. I am no pro by any means but here are tips i use to down him. -The AI is pretty predictable, after dying a million times I noticed a few patterns, such as: when you are out turning him he will go to the vertical and use his unlimited energy. -Patience is key! When he would pull to the vertical I would get anxious and immediately fallow him up. Instead i learned to let my energy build before fallowing him up, A little prop feathering goes a long way also when you are trying to pick up speed -Im a horrible shot! So I continue to pursue him until i have a clear shot. One time I had went through every bullet i had as he crossed my nose thinking I would never get a good shot on him. I continued to fallow and be patient and before i knew it i was so close i could have shot him with my side arm, although my first kill had to wait for another try at it. -I try and aim for his wings, seems like I have to dump a lot of lead into the fuselage whereas the wing falls apart fairly easily. -Finally load him up to max gross. Like ED said, the AI still needs a little tweaking so i tweak it myself. I tried to post a .trk of me getting the kill in about 4 turns but i keep getting a error. Good Luck

    OMG

Dang! I was just getting ready to go to bed and then I go and read this post. Now I have to fire up the ol' Mustang for a few circuits! Thank you sir
  24. Just gonna jump in and stir the pot. An a airplane is chained down loosely on the ramp. Holy crap! 50kt steady head wind. The wing is now producing lift. Wind dies down and vuala! The wing is stalled. Not an engineer so I'm into sure if this relates at all. I agree with what is posted above. A stong tail wind just pushes a plane faster over the ground thus keeping the IAS the same but a windshear near stall speeds can cause the wing to lose lift.
  25. A little background, Dos Gringos is a band made up of two viper pilots that moonlight as a folk/rock band. Most of their music is aviation related with a fighter pilot sense of humor. The music is ok but hopefully the vocolist is a better pilot than singer. Still very funny. http://www.dosgringosrocks.com/
