  1. Great news, but I would like to use my Samsung Galaxy S phone as an interface. Any chance you will support smaller screens as well?
  2. Been playing around with TouchDown as well as YHTK, but I was unsuccessful with either to get things working normally so far. It would be so nice to be able to use the Phone to control certain cockpit controls.
  3. just to be sure; I am not sure you understand; you *can* actually have the autopilot make the aircraft maintain straight and level flight so you can aim the mavs more easily. Not that proper trimming shouldn't be done in any case, though... ;)
  4. ^ Hear, hear! :D
  5. Strangely enough, the problem has rectified itself automatically. Probably some quirck in the X-Fi software or something. Sound works in both SP and MP now.
  6. Well I guess the title says it all... When I wanted to show a friend of mine some multiplayer axtion, flying together I was unable to get any sound or music in multiplayer. I do not have any issues with sound in singleplayer. I double checked just now. Is there a quirck somewhere? Any tips on how to fix this are most welcome!
  7. Yes it can they are, basicalky just two seperate devices. Mix and match as you like. :)
  8. True indeed. Thanks. :) My reply that you quoted, however, was a reply on the quoted text in my post where the user mentioned trim tabs. I was shooting at the general workings of trimming with tabs. Not specifically aimed at the Hog. I just assumed it would work the same which it does not aparently. But of you have the trim motors deflecting the actual surface why would you need trim tabs to begin with? Are you sure you are not refering to some abnormal situation? EDIT: as I re read that paragraph you quoted I realised something; do I state correctly that the trim tabs on the elevator are only used in an emergency situation with loss of both hydraulic systems? Interesting... Isnt it nice all the good discussions we can have because of a computer based sim! ;)
  9. Ah right. Yes that seems to be copied/paste from the BS manual. :) One thing to note in the sim, though, is that (even on the ground) trim input will adjust the control surface itself, not the tab. Obviously an abstraction in the model.
  10. Thanks for re-phrasing what I wrote down above. It's always nice to have similar explanations in different words. Additionally to 'Whenever you change aircraft speed or orientation, you need to re-trim': It's a misconception to think that during climb or descent one might leave the trim alone because afterall you're climbing or descending with a constant speed. Indicated airspeed is indeed constant, but true airspeed is not due to changing air pressure with altitude. Hence the need to keep trimming the aircraft. Just a tiny sidenote. ;) But I don't understand your last part; If you mean the paragraphs I quoted, Chops, then I disagree. There is nothing wrong what that explanation. It's a technical summary of how the system works. Could you elaborate on how this would be wrong?
  11. This is a state of mind which we were slapped out of every lesson again during flight academy. :D Some trainees develop the habit to steer with trim. If you want to pitch up slightly you trim and voila. Wrong! Trim is to cancel out control force and make you stop fighting the controls. You set the attitude with your stick or control column, then trim. Not the other way around. So I might be nitpicking here, blame my instructor, but trim is not used to set deflection of a control surface. It used to keep the deflection where you want it. Slight difference, but once it clicks it makes your understanding better, I found. And I *think* you have it backwards. If you trim nose up, the elevator need to go up so the trim tab goes downwards to keep it trimmed there. But that's quickly from the top of my head.
  12. This is not correct. Trim works in helo's I know like above. But on aircraft its usually controlling the trim-tabs on the control surfaces. I wouldn't think this would be any different on the A-10. Upon checking the flight manual here's what it says on trimming: pg. 46 Elevator trim is provided by trim tabs on the outboard trailing edge of the elevators and can be set both from the control stick and from the Emergency Flight Control System panel using two, independent electrical circuits. These circuits lead to a trim motor that sets the trim tabs and provides artificial feel. pg. 47 Aileron trim is provided by trim tabs on each aileron trailing edge that are powered by trim motors. In addition to manual roll trimming of the aircraft, the aileron trim tabs also provide artificial stick feel. Even if the aileron of the trim tab is disengaged, the trim will still function. Note that roll trim is not available when in Manual Reversion Flight Control System (MRFCS) mode. Instead, stick movements drive the roll trim tabs. There is no mention of Rudder trim mechanics, but seeing as there are not trim-tabs mentioned on the diagram at the beginning of the chapter I assume rudder is trimmed by setting Rudder deflection. Trim cancels out the force residue on the control surface. In other words, there is a given airflow over the control surface at a given speed. Without input this would result in a certain force downward or upward from the control surface. The trim tab is set so that the residual force is nullified and the aircraft stays in that attitude if the speed remains the same. Barring center of gravity, ambient pressure and airflow changes of course. You trim for speed. That's why an aircraft will pitch up when applying additional power after being in trim on level flight; the aircraft accelerates but it trimmed for a slower speed. The aircraft pitches up trying to get back to the trim-speed. It's a question of energy.
  13. I hope for your sake that you remember the keyboard commands for those functions you swapped when the dung hits the fan! ;)
  14. Looks really good, Sickdog!
  15. The fact that there is light on the airfield does not neccessarily mean you can see very well in the cockpit. ;) Besides an aircraft may be parked on a remote apron without lighting. Without going into semantics I think the intent of the question was clear enough? I remember being parked at a Norwegian Military airfield with our (civilian) Fokker 50. There were light masts, but still it was hard to see in the cockpit in the dark. For us it was easy; we got a GPU connected. Instant cockpit lighting, but I am curious how this would work for military aircraft without GPU's during the night. Is the use of emergency lighting common practise when going to a cold and dark cockpit during the night, or does the pilot use his NVG, for example?
  16. I never found it too fragile, tbh. I am using it well over 2 years now and it's still in pristine shape! Do you guys get into a exitement tantrum or something when you grab it? :megalol:
  17. So what is common practise then during nighttime when you enter a cold and dark cockpit? Do you use the emergency lighting initially so see anything or is the old fashioned flashlight used?
  18. Yeah the IL-2 forums can be rather hostile at times. The endless discussions about the so-called Uber planes were very tiresome. But in a positive light; it must be rewarding at the same time, if you created something that so many people become so passionate about. You must be doing a lot of things right, despite the pessimism some show in the community.
  19. The TrackClip is WAY better than the reflector. I first used the latter and later got the TrackClip. If it breaks beyond repair I will not hesitate to buy a new one. Charish it!
  20. Makes me wonder; how common is it to have external ground power connected to a military fighter that is about fly a mission? In operational terms I can see this would be a major hassle, especially for fighters standing by for scramble missions. Does anyone with real life experience care to shed some light on this, please?
  21. What makes a good SEAD aircraft? Which systems does it need to carry/employ? Why can't F-15Es do SEAD missions? And why can the Hogs do them as secondary roles? HARMs are out of the question, aren't they?
  22. And you just HAD to bring it up, anyway, didn't you? :megalol: See now what you have done! :D
  23. Please keep this on topic and don't make it a political venting thread. Its about operational facts of the Hogs.
  24. Then you see now is the time to make it known to the world with more bones thrown at us! :D :joystick:
