  1. Maybe we can do a tripple check? ;)
  2. I have carefully read several posts about the supposed stickyness, but I am unable to find any on my stick either. Don't get me wrong, I am sure the people mentioning the stickyness do have it, but it seems as though Lawndart has a valid point; not all units have it apparently. As for precision flying, I can fly a lot smoother with the WH than I ever could with my X52 (non pro). It had a lot of slop around the center, plus I never got accustomed to the feel of the travel of the stick from a full deflection, through center towards full deflection on the other side due to the spring and the plate covering the joint (if that sounds familiar at all). I dont know if the pro has a different joint/spring system or not, though. What I did find less comfortable at first was the heavyness of the WH. Where the X52 allows control 'from the wrist' so to speak, the WH requires more effort from the whole arm. That was, however, until I placed it in a more natural position in relation to my arm instead of on my desk next to the keyboard. Due to its size it results in an uncomfortable pose for my body. Only then the X52 was more comfortable, resulting in more precision. Both great sticks though, but having a good pose due to proper positioning of the hardware I find I am much more precise with the WH. Just my 2 cents. ;)
  3. Darn Loz thats really bad luck. I assume you still havent heard from TM? I am sure they can assist. It tough though just having a 400 buck new toy, sitting there broken temporarily...
  4. This only works though if your pitot tube is intact. I believe his right wing was shot up. ;) Doesnt the hog have a pitot static airspeed indicator as stby instrument? That would mean its pneumatic as well, using the difference between static pressure and pitot pressure to display airspeed. I cant check right now.
  5. Furthermore I don't think anyone is against constructive criticism. The thing I have come across often here -and it does seem an issue all over the internet on forums, not just this one- is that people just throw out their gripe without any nuance, use caps a lot or otherwise bring their view in a rude manner. That ticks off people and rightly so, in my view. If we can have a civil discussion about an issue I am all for it. Drop every comlaint. Afterall this is is a discussion board. But just because you can, it doesnt mean you always have to drop every gripe on here without some forethought, nuancing or getting the facts first. Its already hard to read text like its meant, because we dont hear someone speaking or look at their face. No tactile inputs. Its proven that the message does not come across like it was meant when it was put down, but rather it comes across as how its read by the recipient. Another reason why we should think.a bit more about how to write things down on a forum. Besides, it becomes much more effective as well if we all think a bit more, before posting. Friendlier atmosphere and faster results/solutions.

    FSX Discussion

well I think we'll have to agree to disagree then. ;) I think my reasoning is still sound.
  7. your standby Instruments are on the Battery bus (this is simplified i know) to ensure power in case the ac supply is lost due to engine driven generators (damage or failure). But if you also have damage that kills the battery or electric bus from the battery you will loose the instruments.
  8. With all the horror stories going on here about what happens when you open the WH up?! No way! ;)

    FSX Discussion

:megalol: Thanks for making me spill my morning coffee over my G15! But comparing both products out of the box is still very much apples and oranges, I think. DCS are modules with a very high amount of research. The point is; FSX out of the box is just a platform. Ready to be utilised for projects like detailed sims of airliners and what not. Much like the DCS 'backbone' or 'world' without the models themselves in yet. FS(X) just has some basic aircraft thrown in there so you can actually use the platform already and all that for a broad public as well. Much like a sandbox flightsim environment waiting to be utilised for cool projects. DCS is much different; from the get-go this was already a highly detailed sim, but created on a 'per-aircraft' basis. So in a way I agree that you would need to compare out a high detail addon for FS to DCS. Only then the scope is roughly the same; one highly detailed module versus another, both on different platforms. And only then it's fair to compare the quality of both platforms worlds (meaning FS itself and DCS backbone).
  10. I'm pretty sure this is a load relieve function. So the flaps will retract to the next smaller setting when the aerodynamic load on them gets above a certain threshold. This equals a certain IAS, hence the reference for the pilot, but this says nothing about the IAS indicator still working or the computer providing data to the IAS indicator still working. If I am wrong feel free to clarify. EDIT: I just realised I might have read you wrong; did you mean they will retract above a certain speed automatically or extend down automatically below a certain speed?
  11. Yeah, though I don't like green lights in my green tree! ;) Any way to make em another color?
  12. Just a loose shot from the hip, maybe we're confusing Hibernation with Standby? AFAIK these are two different Windows states upon shutdown and might explain the different lighting effects on the throttle because we call both of them 'standby'? Anyway, firmware update completed without any problems here. Glad it now has that 'HID write' protection! Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling! ;) I'll put my pc in sleep mode and report in a minute. EDIT: In 'sleep mode' (Win7)the throttle stays lit up like a Christmas tree indeed. Now if someone could test Win XP Hibernate mode as opposed to Standby mode, please?
  13. Doesn't the power management page in you BIOS have several USB related settings? Have you checked those yet, kyl? Do both the stick and throttle get updated?
  14. Rep inbound my friend! That rule still helps me daily in real life! One thing to remember though is that it also works the other way around; +2 -2 or -2 +2. Sometimes you will get weird numbers if you add first (For example on course 270), just substract first in that case. Nice and quick! On the positional awareness (especially in low visibility); in real life pilots have charts at hand (airport layout, aplroach procedures, minimum altitudes, etc). Here are also all applicable frequencies listed. So if you dont have charts at hand I suppose there is nothing wrong with using the in game map for positional purposes. ;)
  15. thanks for sharing this. I will check my firmware version first before running this upgrade. My serial is in the mid 2000s.
  16. Gratz on getting yours fixed, flamin squirrel!
  17. thanks for explaining, alpha!
  18. well to be honest I do not know for sure if the boost pumps in the ka50 double as scavenger pumps too. hece the reference to the boeing 737. ;)
  19. the strong and not so strong points about both, right along with their differences have been mentioned to death now in countless of threads. I am sorry, but you're just being lazy here. A quick search on here with both as keywords gives you all the info you need.
  20. how about forum search and or google? :D Seriously, how can anyone give any info if you did not ask anything you want info on? The cookie cutter counter is on the other side, please.
  21. thanks for the heads up, flamin. i'll be sure to check that when i open it up.
  22. Boost pumps normally ensure fuel is fed under constant pressure and as redundancy in case there is a problem with the engine driven pump. Boost pumps can also double as scavenger pumps to make sure every drop is going to be used from the tank (737).
  23. Thats because the w key toggles the brakes when keeping pressed down. its either 100% or 0% whereas an axis can provide progressive braking. If you can assign te brakes to an axis. You'll have much more control that way. In real life it can be rather disastrous to slam on the brakes. ;)
  24. The paddle pushes a button via a mechanical link. Its not an axis. I would not assign the brakes to it cause it will not be progressive, just on or off.
