This has already been reported several times. Try rebuilding shaders: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3382667 Some tell it's working. For some, including me, it didn't solve the bright trees issue, but at least I gained some fps and can now enable DS, which for sure solves the problem.

Wow... what a mess! Maybe it would be good that ED clarifies what is supposed to work and what's not, for both VR and non VR configs. Even as beta testers, we shouldn't be supposed to reverse engineer the graphics engine ;) -
If you want to keep below $2000 for cpu, mb, ram, gpu, ssd and monitor, I would definitely forget about the very latest gen of all components. There is always a big price gap between the very best and the models just below for a not so high performance gain. Hence my suggestion of choosing an Intel X700K cpu, but not the latest, and a 1080, instead of a 1080ti. Note also that in order to decently overclock your cpu (which is one of the biggest gain you can get in DCS), you'll need a decent cooler.

I would start with a high frequency cpu that you can overclock. No need to have many cores for DCS right now. Raw speed is all DCS needs. E.g. a quad core i7 7700K @ 4.2Ghz that you could probably overclock to 4.8Ghz. Then at least 16Gb of DDR4 RAM. A Geforce 1080. An SSD drive. If you're not interested in VR, this should give you plenty of fps... :) By the way, that's more or less what I have (cf. my sig) and it's great maxed out without VR. With VR, that's another story... :(

Excellent ! :) As usual, shortly after a beta release, people start complaining everywhere about bugs and regressions. The purpose of a beta release is to allow beta testers to test and come with bug reports based on tangible and reproducible observations...

Just deleted shaders and config file. Still have those ugly light green trees with DS off. But... gained significant fps. I can now fly in VR with DS on and seem to maintain 45fps everywhere and 90fps at high alt. So, still needs further testing, but it seems that DS is the way to go. Will now try to see if it is possible to add a little msaa.

Hmmm... So it sounds like I don't have to mess with a reinstall and so on and that the tree lighting is indeed supposed to be like that with DS off. That's a pitty as enabling DS is hardly an option in VR. Ok, let's hope they can fix that for the final release. Otherwise, with DS on, it for sure looks great!

Also take a look at what pixel density you set. It seems that going above 1.7 can impact fps, although I don't notice any visual improvement. Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk

What pixel density value do you set? I think it's the only parameter which can improve readability. From my experience, there is some improvement up to around 1.7. So, in my opinion, if you're already able to play at 1.7 pd with your rig, upgrading the gpu won't noticeably help. Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk

Well, even without its special VR features, the 1080 is still around 25% faster than the 980ti. So it should make a difference. Now that's true that DCS is CPU intensive, but as it's mainly single threaded, it won't benefit from the multiple cores and multithreading capabilities of recent CPUs. So the gain to be expected from a new CPU would only reside in the clock speed difference. It would be a completely different story if DCS was able to use the latest capabilities of CPUs and GPUs (multi-threading + VR features) Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk

I don't think you'll get what you want without lowering PD below 2, even with a 1080. I get almost always >45fps, except over Las Vegas, and often 90fps with everything maxed out except shadows on medium and flat terrain shadows. But I set PD to 1.7. Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk

This is normal behavior. What you see on the screen is what you see from your left eye in VR, with similar resolution. Afaik, there's no way to avoid this. Not sure about your focus issue. I never had that problem. DCS usually runs quite smoothly on a high end desktop PC. I can push every graphics settings to maximum, except shadows at medium, and almost always get >45fps, and even 90fps when not flying too low in crowded areas. Just a word about "gaming laptops". For me, those two words just shouldn't be used together :) When you look at the size of components (CPU, GPU, chipset, heatsinks etc...) in a high end desktop pc, you'll realize it is not possible to get the same performance by squeezing everything into a laptop. A gaming laptop will always provide significantly lower performance compared to a desktop pc, even if the components spec looks similar (actually, looking closely to all figures, one can see the specs are far from being the same). Laptops also tend to have many more driver issues. That said, about your loading freezes, have you tried playing with the "preload radius" slider? DCS is mush more CPU demanding than those two. Partly because DCS is mainly single threaded (appart from a second thread used for the sound engine). So it cannot benefit from current multi-core CPUs, unlike Elite Dangerous which is natively multi-threaded. It is clearly not straightforward to design a complex sim like DCS to use multiple threads. Possibly because of critical synchronization constraints between threads. A game like Elite Dangerous is mush less complex in essence.

As far as I remember, I didn't let voltage on auto. It was going too high and too hot. I spent several days looking for the right settings. And I have a Corsair water cooler installed. It might also help. Also, don't use prime95 as stress test. It is totally unrealistic unless you have applications that loads all the cores with similar math requests. I've had the same for one year now. I pushed it to 4.7GHz without any issue. Basically, I gained around 15% fps in DCS on average without VR. Didn't make the comparison with VR. With a gtx1080, in the oculus I get 90fps most of the time in open areas and can keep 45fps in Vegas most of the time also. I just needed to set flat terrain shadows, shadows to medium and visibility range to medium or high. All other settings maxed out and pixel density at 1.7. Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk

Maybe a stupid question, but how do you get 55 or 85fps? Through the Oculus, I only get either 45fps or 90fps, never anything in between... which doesn't help benchmarking. Thx. Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk
