  1. I'm a bit confused. It says that with the patch yesterday, the Gazelle is suppose to be functional in 2.04. I know that I still cannot get it to work but I have heard nothing about the patch not working in the Gazelle forums. I am assuming that something happened between there and here. "Added support of the new F-5E Aggressors Basic Fighter Maneuvers Campaign by Maple Flag SA342 Gazelle. Restored functionality of helicopter in DCS 2.0.4 Crash of VR with SFM planes has been fixed A-10C. Cockpit mirrors will not be blurred now A-10C. Simplified radio restored Ka-50. The ABRIS search function restored The smoke trails effect corrected. The smoke trails will not appear in front of aircraft and missiles. Missile smoke trail will not disappear at some distances The “Unit is dead” trigger will work correctly L-39. The taxi and landing lights will be enabled at hot start Mission generator. The error when China Su-27 is selected has been fixed The aircraft laser designator will not pass through buildings and missiles will not aim to laser spot behind the illuminated building PAI : Group take off on narrow runways fixed, A/C will take off in pairs PAI: hazardous approach after landing fixed Fast mission generator: corrected mission launch when terrain is not chosen Merkava Mk.4: coaxial and AA machine guns ammo corrected up to 2*5000 rounds VR devices: extremely low FPS fixed F-5Е-3 Flight Manual EN errors are corrected F-5Е-3 Flight Manual RU: p.43 the wingspan was corrected for RU manual only " Did I miss something?????
  2. I have been using the lower end CH pedals for some time now. They are OK, and I appreciate them because they save me from having to use they keyboard or twist grip in my joystick saving my wrist from having to deal with staying in one position or another. Before I purchased them I was using home made rudder pedals that I hacked from an old analog joystick. The home made ones were pretty good but I had no way of assigning pedal brakes to them and this was always an issue for me. When I started on the CH pedals, I remember thinking that the rudder function on them was pretty much on par with my home made pedals. But I never went back because I needed the toe brakes. My issue with the CH pedals became that right in the center, when you would reach the pivot balance and the springs both reached their minimum tension, there would be this slight snag to get them to go to the left of right. It wasn't anything major but you really notice it when you have to use it for any kind of precision. In my case it was aiming the guns. That little hesitation between dead center and left or right was always kind of aggravating. I would always find myself overcompensating to get it over the hump and would have to fiddle with it while gunning an enemy or attacking a ground target. I decided last night (while bored out of my skull) to investigate the cause of this. I had always assumed that it was the nature of the pedal itself and that there wasn't anything that I could do about it. I thought that maybe I would save up and purchase a better set of pedals down the line. To make a long post short, Whew! I'm glad I did this. It's simple to do, and it made this pedal so much better to use. No more catching in the center, the pedal flows much smoother now, and I know that I can perform maintenance on them in the future. When I got it apart, I immediately noticed fragments of stuff inside. There was a steel rod about a half an inch long, a piece of particle board, and a small piece of heavy paper. The steel rod was actually the axle for one of the rollers that one of the pedal carriages glides on. It had either been mis-mounted during production or had somehow gotten dislodged at some point. It wasn't rattling around in the set but was setting crooked with the wheel itself stuck in it's socket. Amazingly enough, this wasn't the real issue. It did leave the pedal a little more stiff than it otherwise would have been, but it was only a part of the problem. The piece of paper I found was stuck to one of the tracks that the wheel bearings rode on, right near the center area. So whenever I would try to use the pedal, it would have to go over the paper. It was just thick enough to cause the snag issue. The way the unit is assembled is actually pretty smart. The pedestal itself is almost exactly as wide as the pedal carriage and it's bearings (wheels) so there are wheels on the top and bottom of the carriage that cannot move anywhere but back and forth. The carriages for the pedals are snugly held together by the casing itself. That little piece of paper became a major lump in the pedal because of this. How the particle board got in there was way beyond me, but it too had a hand in the issues. Really small pieces of it were stuck to the wheels. Not anything big but enough to hinder movement a little. I cleaned everything up, got the wheel back into it's pocket with the axle and assembled the case. Before I got all of the screws back into the unit, I tested it out to make sure it was working properly. And it did. Very nicely. But I got to wondering why there was no lubrication in this pedal. There are several points of friction on every piece within it. Plastic on plastic, and medal on plastic in various pins and slots. So I took a chance and applied axle grease (with a graphite powder mix) to all of the points of contact. I gave it some though before doing this because I thought that maybe CH would have done this if it were needed. But I opted to go ahead for 2 reasons. First, there was no dust or dirt in the pedal unit. This told me that it's at least safe to do it because there would be nothing to gum it up over time. And second was (call my logic crazy) that the plug going from the PC board to the pedals themselves was so mismatched that I thought “These guys are just cheap!” Anyone who would couple those two connectors had to not care about quality all that much and didn't want to spring for the extra grease and labor to apply it. Call me crazy but it makes sense (to me anyway) after you see the picture of the plug assembly. 2 items that make no sense whatsoever in their assembled state. But it was the way it came apart and it works when it's back together. Did the grease make a difference? Yes, very much so. The pedals work like a Swiss timepiece now. I could not be happier with their performance. I'm now having to get use to something that works like it should have from the factory. So if anyone has issues with their CH rudder pedals. Maybe this is your solution. Be aware that if you disassemble this pedal setup, it has a very clear sticker that says “Warranty void if broken on it. So you enter at your own risk. In my case.....it was very much worth the effort. I just hope that those (do not remove tag) people don't show up to take me away in the middle of the night
  3. Yeah....Thanks Sith........Whatever! Now all I want is to see more videos of it and there aren't any. Tick tock tick tock..........Now the clock will move slower than ever.
  4. That's where I initially discovered it. Offline.
  5. I agree. I noticed it too.
  6. You aren't alone in this. I run out of ammo almost every time against the Mig15. It's just exhausting......... I at least have gotten past the stage where it just flat out kicks my b-hind every time. I can at least chase it and shoot at it long enough to run myself out of ammo. I have also run myself out of fuel trying to kill the Mig 15. The guns don't do the kind of damage that the Mig's do and as it has been stated already. You may as well get out of the plane and throw the missiles at your adversary because you have to do it juuuust right to get a good lock, and even then you aren't guaranteed a kill. From what I have read and know of the GAR-8, the DCS version isn't too terribly far off from it. So it's probably less about you and your performance than you think.
  7. This......... 99% of the movies that have ever been made were shot and shown in 24 FPS. Did you notice any problems with them?? 30-40 is more than adequate.
  8. :pilotfly: Yeah....For a short while there in 2.o3 they were absolutely terrible shots. They weren't even firing in my direction lots of the time. For the OP: Your best bet on the AA is to do one of two things. 1. gain lots of altitude and come at them from a steep, high angle and drop bombs or rockets at them from a higher altitude. It took me a while but I got to where I have a very good kill ratio doing that. The other thing that I like to do is fly around them and have them shoot at me. You can see the tracers well enough that you only have to maneuver up or down a little bit to avoid the rounds coming at you. It's pretty easy. And when you notice that they have just fired the last of a load, they need a short time to reload the gun, it's the perfect time to go for the kill. If they're part of a convoy or just out in the middle of nowhere without supplies, you can just maneuver around at a safe alt to avoid their fire until they just run completely out of ammo. At first it's a daunting task to kill em, but after a while, you learn their patterns and habits and it becomes more of a chore than a hazard. Stick with it and you'll catch on to them. You just need to get out of those comfy modern cockpits once in a while and spend some time in the old planes and get use to it. I use to have the same complaint and even though it's probably a valid gripe, it's relatively easy to overcome once you get use to regular ground attack missions. I just finished a mission where I had 1 P-51 and took out 3 AA guns, 3 BTR-80's and a bunch of trucks. I got hit once or twice and that was it. Made it home safe! So it's doable.
  9. Until Bud mentioned it, I didn't see any reason for moving grass. But yeah.....Helos. And I can see overwhelming response that DCS is going to start putting out the Lawn Mower Driver simulator. It could not possibly any more boring than the farm tractor simulator I've seen out there. The catch with the Lawn Mower sim is that you are mowing the fields of grass that are right under air combat, and you are also one of the targets. I remember hearing crickets and birds after I ejected once recently. I'm wondering why ED decided to put that in there. I don't plan on spending much time out of my cockpit. But I suppose soothing outdoorsy sounds may help my stress levels after being shot down.
  10. I made a new discovery that may be helpful to some. The other day I pulled my PS/2 cable that wrapped around my foot when I got up from my desk. It bent the round barrel out of shape so much that I could not plug it back into my X52 without possibly doing some kind of damage. Being that those jumpers aren't something that you can just get at the corner store (although they use to be), I had to order one from the internet. Well......3 or 4 days from now it will arrive. What do I do in the meantime? My X55 is at a friend's because he doesn't have a HOTAS and really loves to fly. So.....I went to Goodwill and as luck would have it, they had this old analog Logitech Attack 3 stick. I use to play with the updated version of this stick when I first started into sims and so I thought “Hey....It's only for a few days”. Well, not so for me. I am finding that an analog stick is so much better for the old aircraft in DCS than any of the digital hardware. The response when you move the stick is instantanious and seems to kill that delayed feedback feel to a very comfortable level. It works much better with my CH rudder pedals because the response time seems to be much more in sync. It's almost as though the movement is orchestrated with much more precision. Please, don't get me wrong on this. I have been flying the WWII planes since they started coming out, and I do OK in them. But the reaction of my X52 and 55 have always left me a little frustrated. Until this week, I had no clue as to why. For me, the digital controls react slower, and have that “overly delayed and overstated feedback” feel to them all of the time. When I bank left or right, I have to play off of the digital stick and let it roll itself out to where it's going and in lots of cases I have to compensate because I have underestimated where it will stop. All of this takes place in probably fractions of seconds, but I feel it in my flying. Not so with this cheapy analog stick. It goes where you put it and there isn't this delayed or sluggish feel to it at all. It is perfect for the WWII planes that I have. For me, they now feel as though you would expect a “fly by linkage and cable” plane would. I have a much better and easier time now. I do not stall the planes nearly as much with this stick, I can maneuver around with much more accuracy and with much less effort. My turn radius is much tighter now because I don't over shoot or over compensate. It's great!:joystick: I find the Huey a lot easier to fly accurately with it also. Again, the movement of the stick VS the rudder pedals is so much more in sync. I have not tried it (nor am I likely to) with the A10, F5, or any of the post Korean war AC, mostly because of control mapping. The Logitech only has 10 buttons total, 6 of which are on the base pedestal and not on the stick, and that just doesn't work with a plane or heli that requires a lot of HOTAS controls. But in my opinion, if this stick came with the mapping versatility of either of my digital sticks, I'd probably just switch over to it altogether. And....I believe that the X52 and 55 were designed with the modern AC in mind (especially the A10) so it's all good. But from here on in, I'm using this Cheap ole Logitech Attack 3 that I got for $10 at Goodwill for all of my prop planes and both of my Korean war planes. I don't need the buttons on the other controllers so much and it responds much more to my liking. So for those of you who find a little frustration in the WWII planes. This could be a solution. And it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I know that I'm going to get a couple of these Attack 3's. They're only around $10 - $15 and they have made me very happy. For those of you rolling your eyes because you don't understand what I mean when I say “delayed feedback” or you don't think that your stick is sluggish. I get where you are coming from. I didn't either. But just go get the older analog stick, plug it in, and you'll instantly feel the difference. And for some, I'm sure it won't be comfortable at all. But I'll bet this is the answer for others who don't like to fly the WWII planes because of the lack of control. And I know you are out there because I hear it every day on TS in the servers. “Oh man, I hate the WWII planes because they're too hard to control.” I hear it all the time. I wish I could post a track or two to show the difference, but man -o- man, I can never get them to play back the same track twice. :smilewink:
  11. To all of you guys who work hard to make DCS the best flight sim available to the public and better than most commercial sims that I have been in: I cannot speak for everyone here, but I believe that I speak for most of us when I say that we absolutely appreciate DCS, ED, and all of it's affiliated software devs. We know that you guys really work to bring this stuff to us and we love where you are taking this whole thing. I myself have pretty much given up on all other simulators because they're no where near the quality of DCS. Your FM's alone are worlds ahead of any other simulator. So please accept my whole hearted thanks for what it is that you folks do! Really........ On the flip side I have to apologize on behalf of many of us here. And again, I cannot speak for all, but I am sure that many can agree that at times we (I in particular) can seem impatient with new problems, bugs, and changes that take time to adjust to. Although I know that bugs are going to pop up with these changes. I let my frustration get the best of me sometimes. I'm sure that we can all relate to that. When something works and you are getting enjoyment out of it, then a much anticipated improvement is made available, and it makes changes that you did not expect, or causes unforeseen problems. I for one can get aggravated and tend to forget that it's the nature of the beast. As a result, I make bug reports that sound a little more like complaints than helpful insight. I don't do it intentionally, but it comes off as though I'm blaming ED or one of their subsidiaries for it. And for this I am sorry guys. As I read through some of these complaints and bug reports from folks, I can clearly see the frustration from people, but I believe that this is only because we lose sight of the big picture here and we tend to forget that you guys aren't being neglectful or incompetent. And I am positive that ED looks forward to putting out these updates with enthusiasm, and eager anticipation of making this sim better with each upgrade. And I am sure that there is an equal amount of nervous anticipation over the inevitable bugs and problems that accompany each release. So from now on, I will make a genuine effort to report things only as I see them and omit words like "disappointed", "unhappy" or whatever. It is disheartening to see those kinds of posts and I can clearly see that they're not helpful. I'll also try and use the proper procedures for reporting bugs and not just post them anywhere. We're all in this together at this point and this community (by and large) is a good one. And even though we are paying you with $$$, you guys are paying us with you labor and time. It's a mutual relationship. So......Thanks!!!!! And I'll try and do better for all of our benefit from here on in. Zimmerdylan
  12. I have had the A10C from it's first days and the relationship between us and the wingmen and the whole flight team has always been spotty at best. There are times after patches where they're spot on and obey every command with no problems, and there are times (like after the latest updates to 1.5 and 2) when everything that you need from them fall on deaf ears. It's pretty frustrating and it's nothing new to DCS. I suppose that it'll get fixed again in the future......hopefully sooner than later.
  13. "Yes, I know it, but thanks for sharing!!, I even use the mode switch to expand possibilities even further...btw, thinking about upgrade to a Warthog" I have the X55 also. I decided not to go to the Warthog only because I did not see all that much more in the way of functionality between the 52 and 55. I mean, yes....the 55 has lots of buttons, and toggle switches and all that, but to my mind, I don't see it as anything but relocated assignments. And, the X55 is little problematic with a module or two. I like the X55 but it didn't really seem like an upgrade to me. I just cannot see investing the $$ in the Warthog at this point.
  14. It seems that the old "wingman not responding" issue that plagued the A10 early on has reared it's ugly head in 2.4. I can't get him to do anything. He'll talk to me, tell me his status and all of that but I cannot issue any orders to him. Is this a known bug in 2.4? Also: I had to delete all previous missions for the A10 in 2.4. Weapons load outs were really messed up. ED must have changed a lot of that stuff around because my load outs were all different on missions that I had set up in the ME. When I went to check them in the editor I got the "Load out not saved" message, even on the default load outs. And even then they would not stay consistent. And every time I would start a saved mission, the planes would be randomly placed around the airport. Deleting the old missions and just making new ones seems to have taken care of that issue. Oh!!! And TECAN code doesn't seem to work for Creech AFB. Not sure if it has always been an issue but I cannot get it to ID it in 2.4.
  15. I don't know if you know this but you can activate the buttons on your HOTAS and throttle (like the button next to the nipple and the pinky switch on your joystick) to function in DCS. You can even use the mode select switch for functions if you want. I made every X52 button available for use to maximize functionality. Even with the A10C and the Mi8, I rarely have to touch my mouse for anything. Having it down to the left next to my HOTAS really helps too. Since my HOTAS sits right where a real throttle control helps also. It feels natural just to reach over and grab the mouse. I don't even have to look down.
  16. Map itself looks really great. They added extra detail to down town Vegs that really makes it look more detailed overall. Some bugs here and there that are a bit aggravating but that's to be expected and I'm sure that they'll be worked out over time. Some of the flight models are definitely different and I seem to have to get use to some of the modules all over again. Nothing so drastic that it's a real problem. My missions that were set up in ME are a little screwed up. I find planes not where I put them, and stuff like that. And of course all of my personal control setting were back to default. I put the "config" info files back from a saved file but it still didn't work 100% so I had to go through and find what needed redone. All in all, it was a pretty good update and it's easy to see where this whole thing is going so it makes the little problems not seem too bad. And of course.......this is all just my opinion.
  17. In the update notes it says that there is a new single player mission for the F5. This was the 2.0 update a day or so ago.
  18. I have been using this technique for some time in the Huey. However.....It's a disaster when I try it in the Mi8. I have yet to do it successfully in that module. It does work in the Gazelle also tho.
  19. I use the mouse with my left hand but I set it on a milk crate along with my HOTAS. I put my joystick between my legs. It's kind of a makeshift cockpit that didn't cost me anything to make.
  20. OK thx! I seem to remember that it was at one time bound to the keyboard. I could be mistaken though. None the less....Thanks!
  21. Guys: I can't remember how to jettison the external fuel tanks. I haven't used them in a very long time. From my recollection, there use to be a pretty obvious command for it in the controls section, but I can't find the key command for it anywhere. Could someone please remind me. Thx. :chair:
  22. Not to go off subject. But I'm curious: Is there any reason why people disable the default AC? I don't see an advantage to it.
  23. Yes, audio was set back to default for me. Not a biggie as I just reconfigure in a few seconds. Control mapping was also set back to default. I learned a while back to save my "Input" files, located in the "Config" files for each of the downloads for just such an emergency. So I just pasted them back into the updated DCS and all was great again. There is a very noticeable difference in the FM of some of the planes. I set everything identical for 2.0 and 1.5 and as I go between the two, I can certainly feel some differences. Just remember to save your Input files in a safe place every time you remap or mess with control settings so that you can always revert to them if things go wrong or if you have to dump the game and reload for any reason.
  24. I had never experienced a tyre blowout before. But now it has happened in the Hawk, F5, and I think in the F86. Whew!! I thought I had developed a bad habit on takeoffs or something. :joystick:
  25. The two maps are completely separate as of now. They will not be merged until 2.5 version comes out. So for now, your Nevada maps has to stay on 2. and the other map is still 1.5. In order to fly both you have to keep both loaded as separate entities.
