First flights in 2.0 and NTTR
Zimmerdylan replied to Zimmerdylan's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
I set up the range at Groom lake today with tanks and trucks. Set the date for Oct. at around 16:00. Holy cow!!!! If you have never been over the desert in an airplane or have never traveled through the Western deserts. That is exactly what it looks like! ED has created the most realistic desert landscape I have ever experienced in a flight sim. I really felt like I was flying over the Sonora Desert (I know this isn't but they're similar). It's great to have a map of an area that I am very familiar with and have spent, and still spend a lot of time in. That's just awesome. -

What the????? I had the flat shadows off already......or so I thought. Thanks for pointing that out to me!!! -
To me, all the planes fly better. Honestly. The ground handling of the P-51 was so much more sensitive that I ran it off the taxiway at first because it turns better and you don't have to hammer it to get it to turn with the wheel brakes. Huey has lost it's shake at startup. I'm sure this was not intended to go away. And it does not have radio communications (unless I messed up setting up the radio) with the tower. But we all have to keep in mind that this is an ALPHA download. All I'm doing is offering up observations. Busutil: How is Yuma? I haven't been over there in several months.

First flights in 2.0 and NTTR

OK...here are my settings. Yeah, I know, my first two are set to high, but it has never really hindered performance and I'm kind of fond of the detail level. I am by no means a computer guru and if anyone sees anything that they think should be changed, I'm open to all options. -

Yeah....I had the Xplane Vegas pay ware. I really hated it. I was always expecting Bugs Bunny to pop up somewhere because of the total cartoony appearance of it. This is certainly not the case here. This is very nicely done. But in the Xplane version, every Casino and hotel had it's real world name. To me though.....the trade off is well worth it. I could never bring myself to go back to that pay ware Vegas. DCS Vegas however, I'm loving flying around in. Sorry Mods. I'll shut my pie hole about other sims now. It was just impossible not to compare the two. -

You do mean "in game" don't you? As soon as I figure out how to post a screenshot of the settings, I'll post it for you. Probably tomorrow. -

Quite possibly. I don't really know. That's why I just made it an observation. I'm sure that the Devs. did not overlook them. I do know that there were some copyright issues with Casino names and that's why they're not accurate. Possibly, but I have no clue, they may have had issues with the statue and tower for those reasons. Who knows? None the less, it's not really an important issue for me. When you see the strip and how friggin awesome it looks from 20,000 feet, who cares? I'm telling you, it's kind of close to photo real in my book. -
I was flying the F86 in the NTTR map and was at around 23,000 ft. Things started getting blurry, and then a little blurrier, and a little blurrier. I started getting hypoxia. I don't know about the rest of you but I never had to turn oxygen on in 1.2 or 1.5. But You have to do it in 2.0 or you'll be in for a nasty surprise. There are a lot of subtle differences in all of the planes I have flown in the new DCS that were not there before. So be aware of that. Also: If any of you have flown the new map, I can't seem to dial any frequencies in on the radio compass. Has anyone else found this to be a problem??

I threw my Xplane disks away a few months after 10 came out. Welcome to the forums..........

Yeah.....I didn't hear any difference.

Been flying since about 5 pm my time. It's pretty cool!!!!

First of all. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS WONDERFUL ADDITION TO DCS E.D.!!!! No one could have ever expected a better first day. (8 hour download time aside) And, before I start: All of the stuff I'm about to mention, comment on, or point out are ONLY OBSERVATIONS. They are in no way complaints. There is a lot of detail in NTTR and 2.0. The things I experienced are all trivial to me in the sense that I know the work that ED did, and this NTTR map is still head and shoulders above similar maps I have flown in other sim software. It is absolutely excellent. All that being said: I started out at Groom Lake in the Hawk. The difference between the actual scenery is very noticeable at first and took me a little while to get use to. The buildings are much more refined, crisp, and cleanly drawn. It's almost a little too clean. The runway textures are also much different and not what I am use to in DCS. The runway paint lines seems a little rushed and not so much curved as angled lines joined together. However, this is not good or bad. It just took me a few minutes to adjust to seeing scenery like this in DCS. I flew the Hawk over Parump, looking at the desert floor along the way. I flew at altitudes from 10,000 ft to 23,000 ft. All looks really good. The extremely clean buildings were a little weird to me but it was none the less, very cool. I did notice my FPS taking a hit at lower altitudes. More so than in 1.5 but I didn't mind. I almost expected that to happen. I flew into McCarran after taking a lap around the strip. Some of the names on the casinos were cracking me up a little. I didn't mind at all. The buildings were a pretty descent representation of their real world counterparts. The one thing that I did have issues with was that Vegas was punching my humble GTX 660 Ti in the stomach. My fps were around 19 in a lot of places. And again, it was totally expected. The DCS Las Vegas was much better than other Las Vegas packages that I have paid just as much $$ for and only got the down town Las Vegas area. The DCS Las Vegas was sooo much more even and the texture was much better. Tromp (lol) Tower is pretty awesome guys. I do miss the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower but hey......All said and done, the place looks pretty nice. McCarran looks fabulous!!! So I landed the Hawk and took the Huey down the strip. But this time I noticed that my FPS were at a very healthy 30 (pretty good for my setup and that kind of detail). No lag at all, was perfect. So it must have been the Hawk causing me to lose frames because I took the P-51 up and had no FPS issues either. Tried to land the Huey on the Bellagio but realized the roof was pitched so I landed instead across the strip at the "Dollywood" or whatever they named it. I noticed that my helio was 4 feet off the roof when I landed it. I think it was kind of the same in 1.5 but I'm not sure. Landed the Huey and took off in the P-51. Flew it to Lake Meade and over the Hoover Dam. NIIIICE job guys. You got all of the color variances in the cement panels and the new overhead detour bridge the I flew under, and have to drive over every time I go to Vegas any more. You even got the service roads to the dam floor. Really great stuff!! Oh....Huey has some issues: The shaky start seems to be completely gone. I don't know if you made this an option in the option menu but if not, it's gone, and it has no communications at all with ATC. Could not get any permissions at all. All in all....I'm sold and very happy. I know that any of the things I may have found (although very acceptable in my book) will most probably be addressed. I guess this is my very long thank you letter. I would have waited another 6 months if asked to. This was worth the money and the wait!!!!!!:thumbup::thumbup:

Since I just got the Hawk and love it like only a mother could love her child, I'll fly it through the desert North of LV, or maybe through the North Canyon. And then....I'm going to land a Huey on the roof of the Bellagio and spend some cash at the casino. I know it's an awful lot to ask, but I would love to see Freemont Street in the map. I much prefer the old strip to the new whenever I'm in sin city. -

Someone asked me for a Rhino assignment sheet?
Zimmerdylan replied to Zimmerdylan's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
OK fellas, this is my last attempt at this. It isn't perfect and some numbers are missing but anyone can add them if they like. I know that there are 3 modes and all, but there was not enough room for all of that so I made the boxes as big as possible so you can cram everything in. Hope this helps the guy who asked......It's almost impossible to find a regular X55 map diagram on the internet. -
Finally got round to learning the MI8
Zimmerdylan replied to Cowboy10uk's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
LOL, I am the same with the SU-25 and the F15. I have never really flown either of them even though I have had them for two years now. Could not say why, I just never got around to it. The Mi-8 is a great module. As people have already said, lots of power and in some ways it is more responsive than the Huey. I really enjoy it. -
Mail Pouch stopped having them done in the mid 90's, and even then, they were just having the old ones redone much of the time. I remember my father actually doing one for Nabisco at some point. I was stuck painting the base coats as a kid. A lot of ungratifying labor for a young teen.
-
Here. I managed to dig these up from my Facebook page where I posted them in Dec. 2012. My father was that guy who painted the Mail Pouch signs on barns way back when. You older guys will remember those. I have been painting ever since I was a kid. Before, and while I was in college in Hartford Ct., I would go down to the shore with a bucket of brushes and paints and get a few extra bucks doing those logos and names you see on people's boats. I only manage to paint one AC every 4 or 5 years. It takes at least that long for them to be rebuilt. Some take 10 to 15 years depending on condition. Oddly enough, the cat was pulled from a template that I had to use. I guess that it was an air recon unit right at the beginning of WWII that this particular plane was assigned to.
