Now I can fly with my wife in the Dora !
Zimmerdylan replied to ctguy1955's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
Wow.......All I can tell you is that one day, it just clicks and you can do both take off and landing. And there seem to be a thousand ways that people figure it out. I remember when it clicked for me and I could not have been happier. It also clicked with the 109 too. The funny thing about it is that until the magical day when everything just fell into place, I had to do everything just a certain way to get it to work. After it clicked, I have more freedom to let up on my strict methods. None the less.....It made flying both planes so much more enjoyable for me. -
Unable to control Flexible Mount / Door Gunners

Hmm. I guess I'll have to post some tracks. So when I get time I'll make a few for you. My Huey doesn't seem to be working the same way that yours is. If I use track IR aiming, one of two things plays out. 1. my gunner just faces forward and will not engage the gun 2. if he does manage to get behind the gun, the track IR goes waaay off kilter from the actual barrel site when I turn my head. It tends to lean to the far outside left or right. I have been able to pause my track IR and use the mouse look to aim at times. This goes directly contrary to what you are talking about. But sometimes, with both my gunners and co pilot, I have both mouse aim and Track IR. That's just impossible to use. I guess I'm going to have to go in and figure out what's going on with my DCS settings. Something is certainly amiss here. Oh....If I turn off the Track IR aiming, the gunner just looks in whatever direction I'm aiming but the gun sits still. -
OK, so here it is: Luck smiled upon me this Christmas. I inherited an X55 Rhino, brand new out of the box. And now, I have a spare X52 laying around. So I have decided to pay it forward. I am going to give my X52 HOTAS to one of you guys. There are two stipulations on this: 1. You cannot already own one. That would not be paying it forward on my part. 2. I would very much appreciate you paying the shipping on it. Maybe reimburse me when you get the X52. If you live overseas from me, you are going to have to front the shipping. Sorry, I'm a nice guy but Wow!!! Out of country shipping is just too expensive (but much cheaper than an X52). So, I live in the U.S. I am going to PM a number between 1 and 1000 to SithSpawn to assure that this is a fair deal. The number closest without going over gets the X52. I am going to be taking numbers until midnight Friday, Jan 8, Arizona time. Any submitted after that will not be counted. I'll check every submitted number and pick the winner as soon as I get done reading through posts. In the event that 2 people pick the same number, I'll take the 1st submission of that number. I'll announce the person, send em a PM, and mail the unit as soon as I can. I'm a man of my word so you'll get it. The X52 in question is a year old, in good working condition, and is pretty clean and scuff free. It works well. If something goes wrong with it, I am not liable. It worked when it left here. I'm sure that it will be fine when it gets there. Please be honest and do not submit a number if you already have a good setup. I am doing this because I know the frustration of not having a good rig and not being able to afford one. That is all. Once I pick, it is done. No arguments, bickering, or whatever. You have not invested anything but a few seconds into getting this thing so you have lost nothing by trying. GOOD LUCK GUYS!

Unable to control Flexible Mount / Door Gunners
Zimmerdylan replied to Inverted's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
For some reason this seems to be a problem with the Huey module. it works for me maybe 30% of the time.....maybe. And when it does it's not very easy to control and is not at all usable to any extent. The gunners either only look straight ahead, or they have 0 control over the mini gun. And when they do, it is a constant struggle between the track IR and the mouse aiming. It does not matter what you have the Track IR aiming set to, it just doesn't work well at all, that is when you can get it to work. The co pilot sight is a nightmare at this point. Again, it is constantly trying to decide whether its using track IR or mouse. And neither works well on it's own no matter how you have the configuration set up. The Huey hates track Ir. Belsimtek: Please please please fix these issues. they have been known for some time now. And it seems that I have yet to be able to fly or plan any missions using all of the features that were suppose to be part of the Huey. It almost seems like that when you fixed the troop embark issues, the gunners went out the window. If there is a solution or setting that I am missing, I have yet to find it or read about it on the forums. So if there is, please enlighten me to it. I would certainly be in your debt. And it was mentioned that the mouse / gunner aim was incorporated in the axis command section of the controls settings. If it was, it never made it to my version. So please Belsimtek, any help is appreciated. It is very frustrating. -
Trim settings, tail heavyness...
Zimmerdylan replied to Anatoli-Kagari9's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
"even read somewhere ( sorry, I don't recall exactly where ) that full brakes could be applied during taxi and even landing rollout, without risking a prop strike." Yes, it was talked about in the interview with that German WWII 109 pilot. He said that prop strike was a non issue in both the 190, and 109. It annoys me no end that the 109 is so easy to tip in DCS. My god the plane doesn't even look like it could tip when you look at the placement of the front wheels in proportion to the rest of the plane. -
I do this exclusively. I always have. That whole setting your stick on the desk top was never an option for me. And it's just as hard with the stick down between your legs. You almost have to bend your thumb out of joint to reach the top, top hat switch. It is kind of a pain in the a$$. It is a good stick if you don't mind the terrible software, and it's bugs with DCS. I never could understand how the Mad Catz software really worked.

I found this the other day. Pretty cool. I like the part where the guy's wife or whatever realizes that she has to go back to crank for a second time.......Priceless. My wife would not have done it the first time. [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Sz5t-m9IOE[/ame]

What are the most realistic modules apart from A10 and KA-50?
Zimmerdylan replied to cba's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
As far as I know, the P51 is pretty friggin accurate. Along with the testimony of an A10 pilot who flies with P-51's for air shows, this video is right on the money as to how DCS does a startup, flight, and landing. [ame] [/ame] [ame] [/ame] [ame] [/ame] I have my doubts about both of the German planes in lots of ways. Mostly because of what I have read about them, what I have seen pilots say about them, and how they perform against the Mustang in DCS. But that's only opinion. I am not a pilot by any means so I can only go on what I research. -
Yeah, thought about that one. But it doesn't matter. Last night I was setting up the A10C and DCS would not recognize any of the toggles (would recognize all the other buttons) if I pushed them when I was programming it. But when I selected it's number in the drop down menu, it would assign it, and everything worked fine. Very strange. I'm just disappointed in the Hawk and the Hydraulic bleed problem. Have any of you guys used the dead zones to fix this issue? I haven't tried it yet. None the less, I do like the X55 quite a bit. The awkward joystick button configuration combined with it's shape aside, it's a great stick. I just have to develop double jointed thumbs to use it sometimes.

So I got the X55 via UPS a few days ago. And although I can feel the superior handling, and the buttons are very useful, the software is sub standard, unintuitive, and really needs a good looking over by MadCatz. I do like the X55 setup, but man..........it's got issues. It looks like I'm going to have to keep my X52 right here next to my desk for the things that the X55 cannot be set up to do. Here are some of my main problems: 1. The software has some serious compatibility issues with DCS. This is not to say that they cannot be gotten around. When I set up the P-51, everything went off without a hitch. That is until I tried to use some of the buttons for their intended purpose. When I went to lower flaps, nothing happened!. I kept pushing the button and finally the flaps went down. I thought that the X55 button was defective, but.....when I assigned the same button to the flaps on the F86, no problems whatsoever. Worked like a charm. On some of the modules, the buttons seem to not want to assign unless I look for the number on the drop down window. This kind of sucks because there is no chart of any kind in the Mad Catz software so I really have no way of knowing what numbers or letters connect to what buttons. And yes....I know I can (and will) go look it up on some forum, or instructional on the internet. But the point here is that Saitek just makes terrible software. Some of the modules, the buttons would assign but only after continuously pushing them. But once they were assigned, they worked great. And the Hawk.....forget it. I read the forum posted on it only after I thought that I was losing my marbles trying to get that module to work correctly. I reported it to MadCatz but am sure that there will be no forthcoming solution. So rather than work around, I'll keep my X52 for now. The X55 handles very well. It makes flying a better experience, but the software just closes any gaps in the price between it and the X52. Not really worth the price IMO. But then again, I have yet to start setting up the A10C. The Mi8 is a pain in the a$$ to set up on the X55 and I am still working on it (buttons don't want to assign). But if the A10C is the only big deal about this thing.......... I welcome any advice or experience. I don't hate this thing, just that it's a pain to deal with the software.

A testimonial to the insane AI Mig15's super powers. This fight went on for another ten minutes before I finally downed the thing. That plane flew like it didn't have a care in the world............

Yes. This is true. But before I got the X52, I read tons of reviews on it saying almost the same type of things. "It's unwieldy, hard to grip because it's too big, software problems, lousy warranty and support". But I really like the X52 and have never had any real problems with it. I know that I will miss the double trigger for sure. But in my mind, the trade off is having a HOTAS that allows me to bind everything on one place instead of having to use the keyboard for some of the functions. So I'm sure it will take a little getting use to. I really just want a clear path to programming modes and stuff. I have found some pretty good tutorials on YouTube about the X55, but no good programming tutorials for the X52. So hopefully this will be another perk to the upgrade.

I agree, when I am flying over troops with a heli, it's like every one of them can hit the eye out of a buzzard flying at a quarter mile. It's crazy! I can go down on an armored vehicle or Shilka and kill it in the end taking much less damage then if I fly over a couple of ground troops. Not 100% of the time but I do it more often than not. It's almost always ground troops doing most of the damage to my heli. Pretty frustrating sometimes. :chair:

So it turns out that I have relatives in Europe who seem to be very giving. I got a 200 Euro Christmas gift card in my Email from a relative (that I have never met mind you) in Germany. It was an Amazon.com deal. So I went up and looked at what I could get with this gift card. I was pretty surprised. The X55 well under $200! didn't think twice about that one. I immediately purchased it. Right now, I'm using the X52. I have no complaints about it other than the whole programming issue. I could never figure out how to set it up for the 3 modes, nor could I ever figure out how to bind stuff to the pinky switch. There aren't any good YouTube vids on it, the manual is insanely vague on this function, and no one on the forums seems to really bother setting up modes and the like. Other than programming issues, it has served me pretty well these past couple of years. But now, I have an X55 on the way. The reason I was so exited to get this HOTAS is because of the A10C and the Mi8. Both of these modules have too many functions to set up the X52 effectively (for me anyway). I'm just curious: What stick or HOTAS are people who are flying DCS use? And is there a particular reason you chose the setup that you are currently using? Mine always revolve around $$ and versatility. And.....was the X55 worth the $$$ to upgrade?:pilotfly: I know that for me....I'd be thrilled just to have my TMS, DMS, China hat, Boat Switch, and all of the other HOTAS stuff, actually on my HOTAS. :chair:

I cannot get a Mac fast enough. This is how I feel about Windows 10.

You do know that if you hit the "TAB" button, it drops down to the dialogue screen? And if you hit "TAB+CTRL" you use it to type messages. Pretty cool way of doing the on line dialogue I think.

I took 1.2 off of my computer weeks ago. I cannot imagine needing it at this point. 1.5 is stable and the bugs aren't anything major so I saw no reason to keep 1.2.

DCS World 2.0 Open Alpha - Update 1 Available!
Zimmerdylan replied to Zimmerdylan's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Yeah....there's got to be more than this. I noticed the difference immediately when I got in game. This thing runs nice and smooth for me now. Was a little choppy before. It's all gone now. -
DCS World 2.0 Open Alpha - Update 1 Available!
Zimmerdylan replied to Zimmerdylan's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Don't know the changelog, but all I can say is THAAAANK YOU E.D. Man!!! My graphics are sooo much smoother. Like night and day, even at lower FPS! The clouds float by instead of kind of ticking by. My track IR just glides around as I look at the scenery. Best update you could ask for today. Thanks so much guys!!! And no....no merger but they must be starting to cross some stuff over because it did transfer quite a bit of stuff from 1.5. I'm glad I happened across it when I did. 3 Gigs and it took about 15 minutes. Not like the NTTR map that took all day to download. I must have gotten in before the mad rush! You guys are gonna be happy with this update if it does for your game what it did for mine! Peace out!!!! -
Ahhhhh.....latex, like a brain surgeon every time no matter what time of year..........

My experience so far is that after you slave and get it pretty close to the selected target, it's going to lock sooner or later. Sometimes I just tap the dang thing and it locks, but that's at around 3 miles or so. Any further out than that, I have to stabilize. It's actually a lot less intimidating than I thought it would be. I never use to use the TGP, but now after the whole Maverick training thing, I even use it to keep eyes on targets when dropping dumb bombs. Great tool!!!!

Air combat maneuvers move and rudder!!
Zimmerdylan replied to simo1000rr's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
I use to do this before I broke down and got pedals. It's very hard on your wrist, even in modern fighters. -
I can picture Dan Rather commenting on it right now, on the 6 oclock news.

yeah....got the whole thing working great now. Thanks for the help guys.
