You'll probably need something for T0 too. I felt like I didn't need T0 myself, and found out quickly when using mavs that when it auto-locked on targets I didn't want to shoot at, it wouldn't come off them.

What's your progress on the Viggen so far??
CaptJodan replied to ultrablue2258's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
Spent several hours last night practicing visual landings and takeoffs with different loadouts/weights. I feel pretty competent on those.....on a runway. I did a single quasi-successful landing on a road (only got stuck in the weeds at the end off the road). Tried out *most* of the weapon systems, but have mastered or are even competent in none of them. Tried out the navigation system and succeeded but I still wouldn't plan a trip with me without expecting to get lost. -
Thanks for the known issue list. I'm a twist stick user so really glad to know about that one (and how to address it) if it hits.

DCS Viggen Overview Vid: Why I Like The Viggen
CaptJodan replied to Jive's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
I liked this video. I especially liked some of the performance tests you ran through. That drag race was fun and surprising to watch. -
I'm going to reiterate this because it seems to be lost in the shuffle. Though I think I can only speak for myself, I think there's many on this side of things that probably feel similarly. I am disappointed. I am not raging. I'm not saying "down with Leatherneck". As others have pointed out, this isn't even their fault, and they DID warn us earlier than most might. And I appreciate Cobra's honesty. I do not think less of Leatherneck for this development. So charges like "people just want to find something to complain about" are misplaced. Blanket statements. Other people's mileage may very. I'm going to miss out on playing with the Viggen in MP, showing it off to a few of my friends who fly, but didn't buy the Viggen and don't want it. (was looking forward to showing them what they were missing, maybe convincing them otherwise). They won't update to DCSBeta. Why should they? They didn't buy the module and they don't want another different install or to go through switching back and forth, even if it's easy. They like the stable release. Sure, you can blame them for their stubbornness, but I wouldn't. There's simply no reason for them to disrupt their current stable installs. So for an as-of-yet unknown period of time, I won't be able to fly with them, and if I do wish to, I will have to bounce back and forth between installs (and one without the Viggen!). This, to me, is worthy of disappointment. There are a couple other reasons of lesser importance that make me disappointed. My mods were not installed with JSME so it could well break something going back and forth. Again, a minor issue, but a concern nonetheless. None of what I personally has said has been anything but respectful. People have various reasons for their feelings that may not be chalked up to "you're lazy" or "some people just want to complain". Truth is, I'll probably do the open beta because I want to learn and fly the Viggen on release. Leatherneck is delivering their product at the time they said they'd deliver it. That doesn't always happen, so I'm definitely happy about that. But I can still voice my disappointment on this issue. Especially when it seemed like it was going to be released on the stable version, and had a real shot at a release on 2.0 (though, again, not promised by anyone, so perfectly fine that they didn't get to put it in 2.0). None of this is the end of the world. But it does have an effect, and it does come as a surprise for some. "Everything is subject to change" does happen, but it doesn't mean I can't be disappointed by the effects of that. I'd also like to thank Cobra for saying "we're listening" and that they were thinking about options. Even if it still comes out on 1.5.6 open beta, just knowing they heard us and put thought into it....and wasn't dismissive, goes a long way. So thanks, Cobra!

A bit disappointed myself. Not going to hold it over Leatherneck or anything, but I was hoping to have it in the stable 1.5 version. Obviously, since they said they were pushing for it, I was hoping for 2.0 as well, though not expecting it. This is definitely back from that. I'm personally not leveraging anything. Not the end of the world, as everyone says. But I am a bit disappointed. We can't all run 3 instances of DCS.

You know, for flights, music isn't required. But if you go with music, you can't go wrong with BSG. Great choice. :) Great video. Viggen is going to be an intense aircraft to fly in interdictions.

VSN flyable aircraft mods
CaptJodan replied to razo+r's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
A little late to the party seeing that you guys updated the aircraft to 1.5.5. Thank you! I enjoy flying around in these AC in missions, getting different perspectives, etc. I appreciate your hard work to keep these updated as the patches move forward! -
The Viggen hasn't had much luck when it comes to it's announcements, has it? I remember back when it was spoiled about it being the "secret" plane. The devs should be able to announce their big news when and how they want to after the many hours they put into it. I'll just drink and get some short term memory loss, then be surprised in the afternoon tomorrow. :)

Dangerous words around these parts. I hope the hype train doesn't run you over. :)

My guess is it'll go on sale on Friday, but the still more work to be done meaning it probably won't come out till the new year. Seems a reasonable guess from that cloak and dagger stuff. Probably not too long into the new year though.

flyable F-35 download link
CaptJodan replied to happy cavin's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
You could. I was just thinking Su-25 so it can launch ground weapons, as the F-35 likes to be a strike aircraft. HARMs, LGBs, etc. The F-15 cockpit is great for the air side, but to be a ground pounder with it's guided weapons (or at least some of them) it needs the Su-25 pit. Real nice model though. :) Edit: To be clear, I mean the Su-25T cockpit. :) -

Awesome. This with the F-22 is great. Now we just need this with the Su-25 cockpit for ground attack. -
Thanks guys. It was the port issue, plus a little extra issue of me having 2 routers set up, so had to work on that issue as well. Works now.

Hello. I've been playing DCS for what seems like forever, but I've never really gotten into the whole multiplayer thing until recently with a friend of mine who I'm trying to get into the game. I'm not well versed in multiplayer of any game type, really so consider me pretty new. We both have been having trouble joining or creating servers. Last night for the first time we were able to join the same server and had a blast, but I'd really like to learn how to create my own so as to create our own training missions. The difficulties we've had are as follows. When we create a private server (or public server), the other person can't find that server that's created. We also don't always see the same server list as the other person. I'll call out a free fly server someone else has created, but he can't see it, or vis versa. Clearly it's not completely blocked, as we were able to play in the same server for the first time last night (and had a lot of fun). But I'm not sure why we don't always see the same servers, or why we can't seem to create a public server the other person can join in on. For the record, my game is modded, so I steer clear of integrity check servers (and create ones that do not require an integrity check). And don't usually set to private, so he can see it. Any suggestions or places to point me in the direction of? Any reason why I can't see a server he creates or he can't see one I create? Thanks in advance.

VSN flyable aircraft mods
CaptJodan replied to razo+r's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
Having fun with these aircraft! Are there ways to employ the AGM-86C, AGM-154C, or AGM-84s? I know these traditionally rely on radar or GPS, but didn't know if the mod included a way to launch these weapons with what we have available? Can't seem to get them off the rail for myself. Thanks! -
I approve. Looking forward to the link.

Took her out for my first spin this morning. Still have a lot to learn about her, but it was an actual joy to fly. Definitely has its own personality. Reminds me of the many hours of flying the Huey, even out of combat. I imagine the F-5 may be just as much out of combat as in (possibly more, given it's limited options). Looking forward to my subsequent flights. Also, it just looks good in the air.

Thanks for the info. I'll be on the lookout for a 2.0 compatible Rafale to complete my set. :smilewink:

This is a pretty neat mod. I've only just dived in, but it's nice to see. Even having the opportunity for more AI aircraft from other countries to fill out the ranks is a plus in my book, and this adds some flyables as well. I'm especially impressed that you got rid of sticky-wheels. You know, where your aircraft feels glued to the tarmac once you touch down, and turns are....shall we say, not dynamic. This may not be perfect, but it's a major improvement on that modding front. That little trick could be used elsewhere for sure! Is this currently only supported for 1.5, or does it work properly in 2.0? (I got it to work in 2.0, but I'm not sure if it's working "right", and there may be a reason for that) Are there any plans to release a Rafale with this pack? Had to ask. Hyperion35: It doesn't override the M-2000C, nor does it affect it as far as I can tell.
-
I'd vote yes for these reasons as well. No, it's not the most seat-of-the-pants aircraft, but it would be interesting to fly.
-
For me, yes, something exactly like that. :) Don't suppose that's available though.

Great game but very hard for beginners...
CaptJodan replied to luftfisch's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
I think there are some fair criticisms here for new simmers. I don't think any compromises should be made to the level of detail for advanced users, but certainly there could be some help for beginning users. I remember back in the Black Shark and A-10C days (okay, I'm still in the A-10C days sometimes) when nothing made sense to me and I didn't have the motivation to learn everything at once. There's a distinct lack of scalabilty with a lot of DCS. You either put it on game mode, and everything is ridiculously simplistic and arcade-like, or you do simulation and are overwhelmed all at once. I didn't even have the mentality back then to devote hours and hours just to learn how to start the engines and then remember how to do it across different platforms. Some of the other points also seem like fair criticisms. Having said that.... These are some pretty good tips. DCS comes with a powerful mission editor, and that editor has seen far more use by me than any campaign or mission. Setting up whatever mission I need to learn a particular skill has been the way to go. Often, it requires a YouTube video or two to get the hang of things. Practicing just flying your aircraft, loaded and unloaded, in the sky can also be a huge help as stated. At least half the fun is learning the aircraft's flight characteristics, seeing what it can and can't do, even without people shooting at you all the time. This sim ultimately won't be for everyone. We're a niche market that is, quite frankly, lucky to have something as complex and well modeled as DCS. There are small things I think ED could do to make the experience easier for newbies without sacrificing the core of the game or wouldn't take a huge amount of development time to implement (you have to balance that last part carefully, otherwise you're not working on new modules or a dynamic campaign!), but in the end, the player has to come ready to learn too.
