My general rule is not to release below 3000 AGL for normal bombs. MK82 AIRs can be released lower. LGBs and IAMs are best released 8000 feet or higher, with some preferring 20,000 or so. As for techniques on deploying these weapons, that should be up to you since the threat environment would dictate your delivery methods. I generally prefer a CCRP drop, wings level, rather than a CCIP dive.

I'd suggest a thin plywood as your panel, and just generic switches/buttons for it. Cut-and-paste labels around/above/on the buttons/switches. Very cheap, looks ugly, but works exactly the same as the more expensive CnC-cut ones.
-
What I would suggest is - play a mission and identify the gaps in your knowledge. Then go out, practice them on TEs or custom missions, then try the first mission again. You will find that you will slowly "get it" as far as campaign mission goes.

No worries mate! Need the time to save up the money anyway. Damn stupid "real-life priorities!" Who needs to pay "rent" anyway?

Niiiice!

Hello pitbldr! Glad to see the UFC is finished. ETA on the CDU? I'm guessing I'm better off waiting for both of them to be ready before ordering as shipping to UK may be a pain...
-
Yep, the A-10 is not an all-around performer. It was built for a purpose, and does it well. Other roles (SEAD, CAP) go to other aircraft.

KLaFaille, I like the way it looks... That "official" looking UFC is way beyond my reach for now, I'm just looking for something functional. I was wondering what the board and buttons were called.. Dachs, posted on that thread, thanks for the heads up. Wonder what a breakout board is though...
-
Someone just pointed out this thread to me. First off, this is going to be my first project so what is a break out board? Is there a pic of this thing in actual use? I may be interested in buying one if you could quote me a price of shipping to the UK.
-
KLaFaille, that's exactly the kind of setup I want to make (smaller and tidier), but how does it look with the buttons/faceplate on? I think Leo Bodnar's boards (and the like) are easiest to setup, I'm intrigued by X-keys but I do not understand how I would wire the thing to the buttons/switches. I can do simple programming on the "matrix" to send proper commands, but the uncertainty on the hardware-side makes me think twice.

I'm all confused now. StrongHarm, you and I must go up one time and you walk me through this step. I learn better by doing than by reading.

I'm sure that I don't like being shot at either, but I usually only go high enough to evade them. I usually avoid SAM sites and AAAs can be dealt with from 8-10k feet. Like I said, with the speed the Hog has, I can have dinner and a nap before it reaches 25k, so I have never gone that high :D

I'm planning to build a simple cockpit for my DCS A-10 obsession :helpsmilie: I got me a TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFDs, and a Saitek rudder pedals. I'm planning to hit a junkshop for an old car seat and get some boards from the local B&Q and make me a simple 'pit. Having appreciated the TM Cougar MFDs and the switches on my TM Warthog throttle, I now want to make a couple of panels for my 'pit as well. I'm hoping to build an AHCP, UFC, CDU, Electrical panel, and maybe a few other panels as well. Right off the bat, the UFC and CDU alone will pose a challenge simply by the sheer number of buttons I'll be needing. At the moment, my research has led me to a few options: 1. Leo Bodnar's BU0836X - I understand this offers 32 buttons, plus a 8-way POV (which can easily be make into 8 more buttons). I'm not sure if I can use the rotaris/analog axii though. 2. GGG's GP-Wiz 40 MAX - Again, 40 buttons plus a rotary or two. 3. Ultimarc's i-PAC4 - 56 inputs! Has anyone had experience with any of these? Or maybe with something else I've not heard of? The CDU/AAP panel alone will be 8 LSKs + 6 FSKs + 10 numbers + 26 letters + 9 misc buttons/rockers = at least 59 buttons!! So I guess I'm looking at more than one board right off the bat! Cheers!

That's funny, I've never, NEVER been to 25k. Angels 15 at the most, and I slept most of the way up :D I'm most at home at 5-10k, with the occasional dip to cherubs 2.
-
Oh hell yeah! I've been flying around in the Hog for about 2 hours, most of it on full throttle, and I've got more than enough fuel to go home, re-arm, and do it all again! The only downside is it takes FOREVER to get to 300 knots :D

SH, correct me if I'm wrong, but if you China AFT Long, the Mav will be looking at the mark point, but you'll have to do so again to get the TGP looking at the same, yes? ie, looking at Mark A via Mav, then fire a missile, then look at Mark B via Mav, but want to confirm with a TGP look, when you switch to TGP, you'll have to China AFT Long again, yes?

Would you prefer DCS A-10 over Black Shark?

I would say flying helos is a bit harder -- the "dance" with the stick and collective is very challenging, especially if you want to be "tactical" and fly NOE. -
I don't play with a Zeus... if one is around, it deserves a Maverick. Try flying around without knowing where one is --- usually by the time you see tracer fire, it's a bit too late to jink unless you're really high or really lucky.
-
I see... but I'm running out of buttons on my Warthog... maybe the Mic IN switch?
-
Lol gizmo. I'm asian, from the Philippines, but am in UK at the moment.

The more I play, the more I cant wait for brief in-game...

I do get a small stutter when my missiles/bombs hit... like half a second as the computer gets the "explosion" graphics out. -
Ground units looking like Boxes until REALLY close

Well, I did my testing using my custom snapview, which is a zoomed-in view of the HUD. As I do most of my guns attacks from this view, I can say that editing the .cfg file did help. -
As a sim pilot, I want to practice my accuracy and technique. Obviously, having different weather/wind conditions will "taint" this attempt -- I prefer to miss due to my errors than having to wonder if the wind did it. When I am a bit better, I would fiddle with such, but not at the moment.
-
I use a snap view to zoom in. Like others said, 0.8 or less for tanks, and a good hose --- maybe 200 bullets worth. You may get by with less, but why risk needing a second pass? I've killed soft-skinned targets from 2.0 with about 50 bullets spray, and I prefer to hammer BMPs at 1.8-1.5. Those things are deadly with their guns!
-
I would place a user-selected object but in this case I wanted the target to be an ordinary-looking city building, indestinguishable from surrounding buildings if not marked or lased.
