Panavia Tornado by Polychop-Simulations?
dotChuckles replied to phant's topic in Polychop-Simulations
Thank you for your kind words Sven. I too remember Janes F15 and was also a frequent flyer for myself. I certainly think sims back then gave a real sense of "being there" and being immersed in the experience. Tornado certainly did that for me. You felt like you'd signed up for a commission when you installed it. I think we are the luckiest, in that we were the right age during the "golden" age of flight sims of the early 90's to fall under the spell of imagination and adventure that they gave. As such we understand the importance of experience as well as fidelity when it comes to flight sims. It warms me to think that there are people like us who had the same experience and the same enthusiasm and childhood dreams in countries all around the world. I wish you the best of luck in your negotiations! And hopefully one day I can 'virtually' climb into the front seat of ZD791 in desert pink while my buddy programs a laydown delivery on a SAM site from the back. :-) I am sure if there is anything you need from the community to get this project on the go, just ask and we'll be there. Until then, if you have some spare time, I think these films will be of just the right period to be of interest ;-) The first one is a particular favourite of mine. Enjoy! -
A lot of this can be helped with good communication if you happen to be playing online. It's why FOX and RIFLE calls are so important. If you're buddy calls out one of those you know the the MWS is probably a friendly. If you haven't, break hard, chaff chaff flare flare and start notching.

Panavia Tornado by Polychop-Simulations?
dotChuckles replied to phant's topic in Polychop-Simulations
I think I can honestly say that the GR.1 would be the most monumentally important purchase of my simming career. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1069630#post1069630 Please make the 10 year old in me happy again. -

GR1 all the way with JP233. Toast runways! -
This, in a proper multiplayer briefing environment with the ability to show slides/pictures of targets and approaches would be awesome.

[TURN FLAT SHADOWS OFF] Aircraft shadows on ground are broken
dotChuckles replied to Corrigan's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Not really what I asked though. I asked if those settings would achieve best visuals at the cost of frames. Although it's not an issue of frames as I have the PC power to run it. -
Project Vodka's recruiting Mi-8 pilots.
dotChuckles replied to Darkwolf's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
"Solid experience as Mi-8 pilot" is ok... "Solid experience as an Mi-8 pilot" would be more correct ;) -
Game / Simulator: What defines each and where does DCS fit in?
dotChuckles replied to Zimmerdylan's topic in Chit-Chat
DCS is a game. It's a great game, with depth and complexity. It requires serious commitment to master. But it is a game. To quote the CAA on what qualifies as a simulator... "A FSTD Qualification is based upon an evaluation to establish that the device complies with the technical standards and the Compliance Monitoring System (CMS) requirements of the current regulatory standards, defined in the 'Aircrew Regulation' EU 1178/2011 as amended by EU 290/2012 PART ARA and its associated AMCs & GMs, PART ORA and its associated AMCs & GMs and in the Certification Specifications CS-FSTD A (for aeroplane simulations) and CS-FSTD H (for helicopter simulations)." (link) But in saying that it is a game in no ways belittles the dedication or seriousness of the user. People seem to get insecure about the idea that they are somehow merely playing if you call it a game. This is unnecessary. Likewise people seem to think that their status is elevated above others because they 'use' a simulator. This too is unnecessary as well as being tiresome & unpleasant. -
Hi there, do you still have this for sale? I could be interested after I know how much Christmas has cost me. ;-)

F-15C - How to apply brakes without going off the runway?
dotChuckles replied to DerekSpeare's topic in F-15C for DCS World
Isn't the long runway that was built for the A-12 out of use now (yellow Xs along it)? -
[TURN FLAT SHADOWS OFF] Aircraft shadows on ground are broken
dotChuckles replied to Corrigan's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Really? Now I'm confused. :helpsmilie: When the product leaves alpha/beta we really need some good documentation on these options. I have enough grunt to run the sim at 60fps locked, I'm just trying to find the best options for image quality. -

So just so I have this clear... Shadows = Ultra and Flat Terrain Shadows = Off give me the best visual experience, but the worst frame rate? -

Subscribed to this! -
The colour temperature of sodium lighting is definitely more yellow. Even LED streetlights have a slight yellow cast. I have to match lighting and colour temps every day in my graphics work. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_temperature

I recall a story about the Vulcan, no doubt apocryphal. That when the Vulcan was first flown on a nav-ex south to Ascension the rudimentary autopilot started to command a roll which would have inverted the aircraft had the crew not intervened. The proto-INS was trying to cancel out the "negative" in the southerly latitude and chose that as the most expedient way to do it.

No. You said... "Stop saying a desktop controller can't behave like the real thing as if it's a matter of fact, because it's not." be·have (bĭ-hāv′) v. be·haved, be·hav·ing, be·haves v.intr. 1. a. To conduct oneself in a specified way, especially in relation to others; exhibit behavior: The child behaved badly at the party. b. To conduct oneself in a proper way: I told the child to behave. 2. To act, react, function, or perform in a particular way: This fabric behaves well even in hot weather. That's not feel like... it is act, react, function, or perform like. You said that a desktop controller can FUNCTION like a real one. You're changing terms here. You cannot move your hand in the same way on a desktop controller and then move your hand the same distance in your airframe to produce the same commanded control deflection. If you use a desktop control to build muscle memory you are going to have a hard time flying your numbers. Procedural training great, go for you life. Airmanship training, big no-no.

How many inches of lateral movement do you require on your airframe to command a 1 degree per second pitch up? How many pounds of force is that to break out? How much does the dual spring in the control reduce that force over subsequent lateral pull? (I realise this point doesn't apply so much to hydraulic mechanical linkage. But the point of breakout force and commanded pitch/roll rate still stands.) How many inches of throw does your desktop controller require to carry out the same manoeuvre? How many pounds of force? How far are the bump stops? This will not be the same unless the fulcrum is in the same place. End of. Period. Full stop. You may perceive it as the same. That is a different matter. And that's great that you had a lesson 'n all but you're not the only one with real world flying experience ;-)

Unless, the stick in the real aircraft is 20cm long to the pivot point it can't behave like the real thing. End. Of. Discussion.

Check out wikimapia for the area. Some places described down to the individual buildings. The Soviet airfield and SAM sites up in Tonopah is pretty cool to see. Zoom in, click on stuff, have fun exploring. http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=37.423617&lon=-116.415253&z=10&m=b&show=/3657275/Mock-targets-for-Red-Flag-exercises
