What did I think of Kiowa? It needs to improve in some areas!
GrEaSeLiTeNiN replied to ThorBrasil's topic in DCS: OH-58 Kiowa
Could they not have released some smaller updates like a fix for the MMS screen cut-offs, or the CTDs with hellfires, or even the suspended in mid-air smoke grenades? Are these fixes so intertwined with everything else that they can't be hotfixed?- 592 replies

Gazelle just falling out of the sky in air starts
GrEaSeLiTeNiN replied to GrEaSeLiTeNiN's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
I actually stopped using my hotas lever with the Gazelle but I still use it for the throttle in the UH-1H, Apache and Ka50. It works with the above axis tuning but Pg Up/Dn (or whatever keys) is probably better. I was just trying to find a use for the hotas lever -

I find levers bound to a hotas axis are usable provided your hotas lever works well and is calibrated. My warthog grey throttle lever doesn't go the full range despite calibration and even changes over time. So I've set the axis tuning to 'no slider', 'no curvature', X (50), Y (100), Deadzone (0), so it always ensures 0-100% full range in the sim with adequate buffer (X=50) for when it decides to run off a little. So my lever axis profile ends up looking like a mirrored 'Z'. -
The mission brief screen (top right) blocks my comms menu (top right). How do I move the mission screen away?

Was a while ago when I was testing this and trying to figure out what was going on. As I recall, the vertical bars lengthen according to how much you veer from the altitude at which altitude hold was last activated. It’s not indicating vertical deviation from steer point. Yeah, the diamond is conditional, I guess that’s why I indicated it as desired heading slash waypoint.

IIRC, I think what works with AI wingmen are the priority(?) and no fire zones. My impression is that most datalink sharing, messaging and prosecution in DCS at the moment is largely for MP. Would be great indeed if the AI wingmen could do more but do it well. The last 3 vids by Wags after the target sharing one was on Map Mode, TADS LINK and C-Scope. Maybe Chaos 2 was a test AI in the works and would appear again soon .

Do you mean this? I think "Chaos 2" is not AI. I was under the impression (as stated in the video) that this function is currently for human players (MP) only.

In case you missed this, interesting...

That fixed it, thanks! -
Without AI spotting them for you or a function like IHADSS and slave (Apache), I still find it difficult at times to locate targets in the MMS esp in forested or built-up areas, even when I have the cheat labels on I play around with the gain/level in IR W/H, use the IZLID (shows up in MMS), terrain matching, intel on range, etc. Can't be too high also as the MMS starts picking up the rotor blades and you get that annoying flicker.

"The night vision goggles (NVGs) used by OH-58D Kiowa pilots, such as the AN/AVS-6 (Aviator's Night Vision Imaging System or ANVIS), do not have inherent infrared (IR) capability. They amplify available ambient light, such as moonlight or starlight, to create a visible image in low-light conditions." - ChatGPT (sounds about right I think ) On the MMS, this is at 5km with 4x zoom. Do you mean this?

Does seem to sink a little even when matching the AI's control indicators (save the pedals which do not show). Should be seamless at least at point of handover before moving the physical hotas (unless maybe if "Synchronize cockpit controls with hotas" was selected in the Misc options). I also noticed the animation of the cyclic and collective do not reflect the flight commands to the AI. Maybe there is some disconnect there. Might wanna check at their discord since PC is mostly absent here.

Simple Startup Kneeboard Checklist based on stock training mission. Option 1: Put it as it is (png file, any name) in C:\Users\User\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Kneeboard\OH-6A (Create the "OH-6A" folder first. This is where you place all custom kneeboard pages.) Option 2: You must rename it "Kneeboard1.png" if you put it in C:\Users\User\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Mods\aircraft\OH-6A\Kneeboard (This will replace the default "Your Ad Could Be Here" kneeboard page. Do not place additional custom kneeboard pages here as they won't show up.) version 1 version 2 -
Would be great if Barundas could spot targets and shoot as well. He’s great at hover and flying already. Barundas does sound a little too calm. A little more drama in the voice to add to the mission atmosphere perhaps. You don’t actually need two sticks if you use a modifier and most functions work in both seats. You could even set the default copilot’s seat position a little more center so you can work both sides without jumping seats too much.

That would be the F16's ICP. In the JF17, it's the display that's larger, not the buttons or text.

But is the Laser Code Selector in the BS3 working as intended or not implemented? (I don't play MP so I have not tested this.) Thanks

I find the F16 easier to land in the workflow sense. Too many things going on and to focus on with F18 carrier landings. But I think the JF17 (sorry if going a little off topic) has the easiest workflow.

Mine is a Warthog, but I'm pretty happy with the mapping so far. Hope it's of some help. I go with what works and is functional. When I am undecided on the functions for a particular button or switch that involves a modifier, I normally go with what is less likely to conflict in the heat of battle. Sometimes neither option is better but a matter of getting used to one.

- Are you able to play the training missions? (just to confirm installation is correct) - Not sure about this but is the watch symbol (historical limitation) at bottom of the ME clicked? -
KH-25 laser countdowns in HUD for current BS3. Not much updated info on this. But this is how I understand it after some testing.

After watching video tutorials, reading both manuals and flight testing (latest BS3), these self notes are what I understand about Flight Director Mode. Let me know if there are corrections. With regard to the altitude deviation scale (bottom right), the manuals seem to show the caret in the opposite direction to the Altitude Director bars, which is contrary to my test observations as shown in the HUD below.

Searchlight is to be mounted. It looks like a stage spotlight. I usually have it on the left with the gun. But you need to turn on landing/hover light before you turn on searchlight. Not sure why. Maybe it's a requirement because you'd be near the ground when searching. -
