  1. I will rephrase my statement..."I would hope for a operational product". Not.. 100% bug free. ( Funny thing, this morning I ordered a Radio control system from a company in Wisconsin. ) By the way I recently retired from Hewlett Packard....Yes I have done my share of chasing bugs and I know when to release software builds, where all the major bugs are repaired/eliminated. Meaning the build will operate correctly without causing gliches that impair the performance to a degree of being unexceptable to the level mandated by company standards. This usually means the end user will not have to trouble shoot any issues caused by said software/builds. This does not mean 100% bug free. We would not expect end users to have to address problems caused by the product or do our bug squashing. I know that DCS products are mostly beta builds...but after many revisions one would hope for a build that does not cause major system malfunctions or many hours troubleshooting. Purchasing their releases and expecting them to run without major problems should be understandable. Minor little glitches can be overlooked to a point....but after several updates these glitches ( which are known) should be eliminated, prior to releasing more code. Therefore you can have a stable build to begin with. :smartass: You release a stable build folks can go back to. I do not wish to load hours of software and then spend hours troubleshooting/online repairing (and numerous times unsucessfully) these modules. As I read this forem I realize this software is expected to fail in functionality. I would like to read where there is finally a package that will run without the problems referenced here. If I thought that I could load what I have already purchased and sit down and enjoy the simulation without all the headaches, I would. There has not been one person who will state that my software will run without problems and numerous repair sessions. I do not want to install it on a new machine, new OS, new hardware previously mentioned to be compatable, only to have to uninstall it completely and probably flush out the OS completely or reinstall everything because of all the bugs. And as I stated earlier I do not expect to be a beta tester after purchasing titles that should operate correctly after numerous updates and fixes have already been undertaken. I do try and live in the moment.... :smilewink: Lazduc, Thanks for taking the time to comment. :D
  2. Help, when to load on a new system I built a new computer in anticipation of DCS latest modules. This was in August...5 months ago...I have not turned it on. I have been waiting for a stable build. Not 1.4, 1.5, 1.6. This has not happened according to the forums. I do not want to be a beta tester. I want a stable package. (yes I have purchased almost all the titles) I do not want to fight with every new patch and endless fixes that automatically load and cause problems. :music_whistling: I want to be able to load all the modules I have purchased and not have a load of problems.....SO my question is what builds are now currently available that do not cause problems. If none, I will wait for the latest Edge build with the Nevada map. I hope that all the second party add-ons will be compatible with the new Edge... If DCS does not release a stable product after Edge is released I will move on to something else. After waiting and spending a lot of money on this platform and supporting this by purchasing most of their modules I am getting .....disappointed :( I ordered a new 256gb ssd drive to be able to load the operating system(Win7 64) and everything for DCS and all the modules I have purchased. I want everything to work correctly. The system I built is a I7 3770, 16gb ram, 1200watt power supply, 128gb ssd (soon to be 256gb) two Evga 780 in sli, 4tb hard disk, 2 dvds, water cooled cpu...its getting old sitting. With the controllers and all, I have invested over 6k. I have an older system that I have BS and FC2 on, that I fly. I do not mind waiting for newly developed modules....second party etc. But I dont want them to be full of bugs. BECZL has promised an almost bug free program when it is released. I look forward to this......BUT I hope that it can integrate into DCS without problems and hopefully DCS will be as bug free. :smartass: Just as an aside...the guy who lives next door to me works for a software company that does terrain modeling for the Military and other situational types. He has some very interesting comments about DCS. I am afraid all the modules I have previously purchased in the last 5 months will be obsolete and will need numerous fixes, patches when I load them when either Edge is released or someone tells me the most bug free release todate. I for one would prefer to wait for a bug free program rather that a number of beta releases with intermittent fixes with more problems. I do support ED and company for their work...just want something without all the problems. What say you???????? Lazduc :D
  3. Two months ago I built a new computer. 3770 cpu (did not want the 4870) two 780's, and a case full of other top tier equipment. I have yet to turn it on....why...I am waiting for Edge, the Nevada map, and the DCS module that is stable. I have version 1.4 on a flash drive. I also have most of the aircraft on several other flash drives.. I waited for 1.5 and read of the errors so decided to wait until 1.6.....which as I read here, also has too many errors to risk loading the entire hoard of my DCS software onto. So now I wait for the aforementioned software. Since Matt spoke of the new software being able to use more than one GPU I am most anxious to see what the new system will do..... Lazduc
  4. Just wondering...having just spent 3000 on a new computer and purchasing most of the modules and then decided to wait until 1.2.5 to avoid any problems with installation and finding there seem to be number of features that remained problematic with that build....I again waited for 1.2.6...should I finally install everything and be assured that everything will load and connect and run without crashing? I realize there may still be a few small bugs but nothing major. I do not want to install everything and have these programs not work together. And then have to reinstall and fight with everything. Are all these programs still considered beta? It appears that the release modules are always followed by a sucession of repairs...some very major. Having updates to correct bugs is a good thing but I would hope that in the future more time would be spent on releasing modules without the major bugs..... and the updates would just improve the module....not necessarily just repair current bugs that were not fixed in the initial release due to time constrants of lack of testors. I know in this community it is assumed that folks will get the software and then help reporting bugs to the development team or the testors. Sometimes it seems like the response to the bugs caught by the community is a process that needs improvement. Perhaps this would help improve and shorten the lengthy development time. Just a thought. I am concerned about the modules from the other developers keeping pace with the sucession of updates and repairs. I am also concerned about the automatic updates.....as many have pointed out that the updates cause in some cases more problems. Can I turn off the automatic update? I hope that future releases, not updates, are pretty much major bug free. I read a past post that ED is experiencing problems with not enough testers to provide the necessary time to catch major bugs. How many programmers does ED have working on DCS and how many testers? Just curious. I am looking forward to the WW2 components and hope they will not be trial beta programs. I have FC2 and earlier DCS modules installed on another machine that keeps me occupied but since I was raised in Nevada I really look forward to this map and other areas to fly in...the current area is getting a little long in the tooth. 5. 920 to haswell Google I7 920 vs Haswell. Most say an overclocked I7 920 will see very little difference. I am sure you will see a boost but nothing like 20%. More like 5%. It also depends on of course the software running. I was disappointed in the numbers myself. I have two machines with I7 2600K's. One machine has two 580's. And DCS does not take advantage of SLI. I ordered a I7 3770K which was about 10.00 cheaper than the new 4770 Haswell. I am building a new machine. I have two 780's I will use along with a new mother board and memory. Why I did not go with the new Haswell.....after reading about the differences and what I will use the new computer for, I chose this configuration. With the new Edge engine I hope it will take advantage of the new technology. The I7 2600K will be about 15% slower than the 3770K possibly even less. I had trouble finding a Asus Deluxe board to run my 3770k. Asus does make a Deluxe version for the Haswell. I have used the Deluxe version Asus boards in several builds. They are OK. I do not see a lot of increase between any of the newer gen cpu's. They are all fast....and depending again on the software some do better than others. Anyway my 2 cents. :D Lazduc
  6. This was to follow up on my previous post. What I have decided on new hardware. These cards will run other software that will take advantage of their additional charcteristics. lazduc
  7. I researched all the info I could find and read all your comments. The Haswell platform will only get me an insignificant boost over what I currently have. I determined for my own use that I will purchase two Nvidia 780's. The will be about twice as fast as my 2 580's. My current cpu is a 2600K on a asus deluxe board. I know that the cpu will be the bottleneck in some software titles....DCS does not take advantage of my current system....With the 780's all I will have to replace is the mother board and cpu and possibly memory, when a more advanced cpu becomes available. I am also waiting for the New Edge engine. I purchased several titles at the sale and will install them this comming week along with the video cards....which arrived yesterday. Lazduc :D
  8. New system 3k Guys, Thanks for the replies. Thought I would wait a couple of more days to see if anyone else wants to chime in.....I have been reading about the latest processors and overall throughput gains vs my 2600k system and comparing the difference between the two 580's and the current 780's. Seems like the difference in video cards is significant. CPU's not so much..5% or so. Seems like a lot of folks lean towards G-Skull memory....wonder why??? Also it appears like the Haswell platforms vs the Sandy/ Ivy bridge is almost moot. I have built a couple of AMD systems in the past but find now that they have ATI their focus has changed.....their CPU are not quite comparable to Intel.....although AMD's prices are very competitive matching speed/execution per dollar. Hope to hear from others about this....Thanks for any input....will post what I have decided in a few days. This system is only for gaming. I have other systems for Engineering/Cad work and one lowly one I use only on the internet to avoid all the addons etc that seem to be able to latch on no matter what kind of virus/protection scheme you might have. My pit is comming along....it is a combination/fixed wing, rotor so I may fly both types. As I have mentioned in the past I am rather partial to Russian aircraft. Lazduc :D
  9. Guys, I just added up the price of the components.....3021.00USD. This does not include monitors/ controllers etc just the computer. If you had 3k to spend on a computer what would you get, where, why???? I will wait before I post what I have selected and see if it is line with what you guys post. This new system will replace an older 2600K system with 2 580's in sli..tb hard drives, ssd, 1k power 8gb ram... Lazduc :D
  10. Yes its working I was finally able to make my purchases. I will now post a question in another threat about a new computer purchase. Looking forward to flying these new birds. Should I wait until 1.2.5 to download onto a new computer to install my new purchases?????? I would like to do it all at once so everything is current. Thanks, Lazduc:D
  11. Cannot purchase anything I tried again...nothing....this is the third time I have tried and now it seem that e-shop is out of action. Please let me know when and how I can purchase the titles I want. I want FC3, BS2, and Huey. I hope they did not remove FC3 because of price issues. Lazduc
  12. Still cannot Purchase Just tried again....same problems. Help. Lazduc
  13. I have been trying for over an hour. I give up. Yes I deleted the cookies. Yes I rebooted my browser. I put three titles in the cart and then hit proceed....a popup comes up asking if I want to allow a unsecured file. I have tried both answers...yes and no....either one produces a message....Internet Explorer cannot open the site...aborted...this is a perfect example of why I do not like purchasing from this site. I can log in since I am posting this so whats the problem????? Lazduc
  14. OK, I want to purchase most of the titles at one time. Can I put all the titles in the cart or do I have to do one at a time??? What I want to do is to purchase them all at one time and pay for them and get the activation code for each. Then download them over the next day or two depending on how long it takes to download. I of course want to do this when the sale starts...:D Lazduc
  15. I have recently purchased the boxed version of A10C and P51. Not installed yet. I have in the past purchased the download version of Warthog (first release old). It is the only DCS software I have on my gaming computer. I have not upgraded nor have I purchased any other modules. I do not have DCS world installed. I have also purchased in the past Black Shark, Lockon Platinum, and several duplicates of each. I have about 25 boxes of DCS, Eagle Dynamics, UBI, and Fighter collection flight sim software..including all the Flanker versions. (Plus about 200 other flight sims going wayyyyyback.) My questions are; I want to install and purchase all the modules except Combine Arms, UH Huey, and Air Sea and Land. (I know I will also have to purchase the upgrade of Black Shark.) I have waited until I have felt most of the problems have been solved with combining all the modules with World. I have waited because I do not want to spend countless hours downloading software which may have problems and then have to download again and then try and tweek it all to get it to run on my system and then possibly having to do it again...which I would not. I have not installed my two boxed versions of P51 and A10C. I hope they do not require World and will run by themselves. I say this as I hope to avoid any problems with getting all the modules and world installed and have it not operate correctly....as it is still all beta. I would have these two boxed versions to still be able to fly and enjoy. Question ONE...how do I proceed with this. What do I download first and install first.....then what..I also want FC3..I want to avoid at this time any updates that will not operate correctly and ruin the whole operation. I would like to wait until the release of 1.2.5 and maybe a few weeks after to make sure no problems with that version. I hope all the versions in the E SHOP are the latest as I do not want o purchase them and then have to upgrade them or have the auto updater go crazy. I will also purchase the second party ad on's. As they become available. Please explain the relationship of DCS, UBI, Eagle Dynamics, Fighter Collection...???? I know in the marketing research the powers that be would like to know what type of Simulator they would best obtain their most profitable recovery. My two cents is I use these Flight Simulators for recreation and fun. I can appreciate the realistic type to a point. I like to fly...I do not mind a little procedure to begin. If you wanted the closest thing you can go to a flight school and do the real thing. And I do have a PIT that I have invested quite a tidy sum of money into. I had my Private license with several endorsements, multi engine, instrument. No longer,,,medical reasons have grounded me....I can still fly in the right seat. I have a lot of fun with these simulators and can do without a lot of the procedural requirements in the more realistic types. Once you have started a real aircraft numerous times....it becomes redundant but too each ...... I do appreciate the more realistic flight characteristics. I like Russian Aircraft. I like Jets. I like the software this company has and is willing to produce. I hope they continue...I am sure if they could financially, they would produce most of the aircraft in as realistic or playable as they could to please most of the flight sim audience. I just purchased a radio controlled SU-35 thrust vectored twin fan Jet. Its 64 inches long and has 42inch wing span. Hang on......:D Lazduc
  16. FC3 Will FC3 be a stand alone type or do you have to have DCS too.... All the modules I have purchased are boxed versions...I have not loaded any of them....I noticed that the P51 module is stated as DCS P51 therefore I think that this module will load DCS?? I have several other flight sims and do not want any conflicts with what I have, also Lockon types, with DCS. I also noticed that the 40.00 version is still beta of FC3. I also notice last Oct it was announded its released but put on hold to sort out bugs. What is the estimate of a final retail version?? ED has released other additions...so I wonder it they have decided not to release this at all?? Lazduc
  17. Help with loading everything Cookie, Thanks for the reply. Reason I listed my different computers was to clarify any compatibility issues with each system...perhaps someone found that a particular module will not support two video cards in SLI...conflict with drivers for ssd drivers or sound...etc and list any problems they may have had with a similar system. I have had several problems with the Triple head display unit and I have had trouble with the different controllers. I also had a problem with the TrackIR. The reason for stating that I lived in Reno Nevada was to note that since I had lived in that area I was really looking forward to the Nevada Map module that was promised a looooong time ago. I have been in that area many times. Lange666, Thanks for the reply. Its always convenient to have a disk to reload a module if the newest upgrade has more problems than the previous build. Since DCS released FC2 in boxed version I thought they may do the same with FC3 and later do the same for the other modules. I suppose you are correct that if they continue to release bug fixes and all their modules are always in beta and really never get to a stable state continuing to release these repair versions would be best as you say to just have downloads. I will uninstall all of my previous versions. I see where 8gb flash drives are only 8.00 each. I intend on downloading each module onto a separate flash drive. As I recall it took about 9 hours to dL A10 and I have cable internet. Last time I downloaded a module it was somehow corrupted and would not initialize correctly. If I run into the inevitable problem with a version on one system, its always convenient to have another computer to try. Lazduc
  18. I have been a flight sim enthusiast since FS1 for the TRS80 which I still have..along with about 150 other flight simulator programs and the old computers that ran them. It fills my garage. My latest computer is an I72600K with 2 nvidia 580's and 2TB of drive space with the OP on a ssd drive, 12gb of mem and 1200watt ps, I have 3 19in monitors driven by a Triple Head to Go....etc. All my other machines which still have the older sims on them were the state of the art at that particular time. I have a new upgraded TM Warthog which I have not used other than reflashing with the latest fm. I use my Logitech G940 on the computer which has BS and A10 on it. On a different computer which has FC2 and several other flight sims, I use a Saitek x52. This computer is also a I72600K with dual cards...etc. I have another computer that is a I7950 with dual vid cards that has FC2 and has a 120hz monitor with the 3D setup. I also have several loaded Amigas that run a motion flight simulator. On all the new computers I run MS Win 7 64bit Ultimate. I have purchased a lot of software that support ED and their previous owners. (SU27 Flanker...etc) Since I lived in Reno Nevada for 30 years, I have since moved to Washington state, I have waited patiently for the Nevada feature that was suppose to arrive any time now. I have not run BS or A10 in over 6 months. I am waiting for a somewhat finished somewhat bug free version of these programs. I have not purchased the upgrade of BS nor have I purchased the newest P51 beta simulator. I am also sure I have not purchased the latest version of A10. And of course I have not added the DCS world program for fear it will ruin the early version of BS and A10 that are installed and run without too much trouble. I might add that after reading many of the posts concerning these programs I am leary as to how to proceed. I would like to purchase all the latest versions that are relatively finished. I would like to know which versions these are and in what order to load them without conflict. Please give the sorting order. Do you load the DCS module first? Then the others....and what version of these modules is compatable with my system(s). That is the reason I listed all my particular systems. I would really like to purchase the box versions of these instead of trying to download all of this. So what I am asking is I would like to have the latest versions of BS, A10 and the P51 modules and whatever the required DCS version is. If there is still problems with all the modules and the DCS world I will wait. I also want to purchase the latest FC3 when it comes out. Is it going to be distributed on disk? Lazduc
  19. Gadroc I have been trying to get one of these power supplies for 20 years...I mean it. I do have two supplies that will generate the 400hz at 115v but they both need to be repaired. I was given them by a tech at an airport repair facility. They are 28vdc input. Naturally the bad component is the transformers which I cannot find....they are discontinued. If you ever do run into a couple of these..er one for yourself and one for me, please email me. You are a pilot....perhaps you can do the same thing....go to a electronics aircraft repair facility and see if they will give you a couple that may need repairing. Possibly the newer units can be repaired and parts are still available. Surplus center in Nebraska had some and I just missed them. That was about 10 years ago. I put in a request about 10 years ago with Nuts and Volts...asking if anyone knew a design for this that was not really expensive....no takers...I think the big problem is the transformer. There is always the aircraft bone yard in Arizona..... Lazduc :D
  20. HI, Do you know where I can get a 115v 400hz power supply? errr with a reasonable price. :smilewink: Thanks, Lazduc
  21. Multi monitor You have not given enough information.....computer graphic cards?? Operating system, memory, what output channels are you using?? Are you using the game port or the hdmi....or what? Type of displays?? Are you using a triple head to go interface?? What type cables???What games are you trying to play? Can you see, and I am going to assume you are running windows 7 of some version, the windows desktop across all 3 displays?? Lazduc
  22. I dont know what the problem is...I just tried to download the full program of BS2 version 1.1.1.1. The load speed was almost at 50kb/s which translates into about 30 hours give or take. I tried bit torrent but that was unsuccessful. I clicked on bit torrrent in the dl section and it sent me to another site that gave me 3 options that make no sense. Clicking on one of the options brought up another page that also made no sense. How does bit torrent work and how can I use it?? I am not going to baby sit this download for 15 to 30 hours. How does DCS hope to make any money when it is this difficult to obtain their programs ???? I see in the advertisment a box version of BS2...where can I purchase it??? Thanks....for any info. Lazduc
  23. I have purchased A-10c on line. I have also in the past purchased Lockon, Lockon Gold, Lockon Platinum, Black Shark..just to show I have supported this genre of flight sims. Now my questions...To upgrade do I have to pay the 15.00 to upgrade my black shark to BS2? I have also tried to patch my BS to 1.01 and 1.02. When I try and download version 1.02 for BS...(and I have a fast service) I can only get 15kbs speed. I can type faster than that. Why are all the servers at DCS so slow???? 14 hours to download this patch. So if I order on line the new Black Shark2 how long is it going to take to download??? AND is this a full version? Should I delete my old version and install the new version or is this just a large patch? Also how can I find out my purchases on line with DCS? Thanks, Lazduc
  24. Has anyone tried to combine (3) 3d 120hz (24in) monitors in sli and had any success?? I have one 3d, 120hz monitor and have an opportunity to purchase 2 more at a very attractive price...but if they will not work correctly I do not want to waste my money. And will this configuration work with triplehead togo??? Thanks, Lazduc
  25. Could someone explain the difference between stand alone and upgrade versions. I purchase my program, 1.1.1.0, on line. I dont know what it is. So what version do I upgrade, or patch, or install, or uninstall and reinstall, or............whatever. I thought I would patch or upgrade to 1.1.1.1. Do I patch or do I download the full version of 1.1.1.1 and reload it onto another directory and save 1.1.1.0 or will this create a mess as I dont know if both versions will tend to write to some saved area and set up a conflict. Lazduc
