Ace, Received my x55 yesterday. I downloaded the 7-64 driver and saved it....you must not run it yet. I then downloaded the 7-64 software and saved it. I then ran the driver software....it then asked to plug in both devices into separate usb ports....(Mine are usb 2.0, I do not know about usb 3.0) When I plugged in the devices, windows recognized them and configured them. I then started the software and it has a statement towards the bottom that tells you that the driver is loaded and the version. You must do this in this order. I have to admit that Saitek's web site is still a wip. The register new software does not work....the latest driver version is impossible to download, at least it was yesterday. I used my x-55 on Flaming Cliffs and it worked very well...have not loaded the latest software from DCS even though I have purchased most of it....as I am waiting for a non beta version and Edge and the new map. Hopefully soon..... Lazduc

Not another map Poll, a legit question to the DEVS
lazduc replied to Devil 505's topic in How To Mod for DCS World
The fellow next door and his team work on terrain maps for the military. I mentioned this sometime ago....I asked him about doing something outside of their normal projects (DCS) and if they would be interested. None of the devs here mentioned any interest in anyone developing another map. With this lack of interest I have to assume they do not want any additional sources in their development process. Perhaps ED are only interested in aircraft 3rd party developers aside from RRG and their WW2 and Europe development. What with the time it has taken ED to do the Nevada map (years) and the integration of that map with Edge I would think they would welcome any interested party to develop software for DCS. I also am aware of the $$$$ and all that. Imho I think this type of development..additional areas and maps would only attract more customers.... Lazduc -

Devon, I think this is a great idea and I back you 100%. I also appreciate your candor and reservation in responding to the completely unnecessary and rude comment posted. -

I would suggest focus on some other game or environment that is not in a continual state of flux to base you decision on hardware. Sometime in the future a new engine (EDGE) will change all specifications on what a computer needs to run DCS software on high settings. Basing your decision on what maybe or what is the current state of this software..1.2.8 will not reflect what the hardware suggestions will be in the many future builds and upgrades, repairs, changes, additions, bug fixes and etc coming....someday. And by that time newer hardware will be available that will make obsolete what is considered current state of the art hardware. And reading many of the posts here....the bottlenecks on frame rate is due to the current state of the software....which is very old. Having a supercomputer to run the current software will not help in that area. Wait for the next release of a new engine to base your decision if you are just going to base it on DCS software.

What attracted you to flight simming or simming in general?
lazduc replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in Chit-Chat
Free Beer....sorry thought you asked "What would attract you to..........." -
I was still impressed that a group in the Soviet Union, during that time, cold war time, could develop such a great simulator. I just purchased a Amiga 3000 to finish my collection...I have the 500, 1000, 2000, 3000 now, and the 4000, and the 1200. A fellow who is a member of the old retro club I go to gave me 4 boxes of Amiga software....I would estimate there are over 10,000 (ten thousand) disks. I think about one fourth of those are video software for the Video Toaster. Laz

KesMonkey, Just too add...all the about titles are on 3.5 in floppys except the Su 27 Squadron Commander's edition....it is on a CD...by SSI. Laz
-
Hey KesMonkey, I just dug up some of my Amiga flight sims. Here is what I found.... F-18 Interceptor, F-16 Combat Pilot (EA), Jet, Harrier Combat (Mindscape), Mig-29 (Domark), Falcon, F-29 Retaliator (Ocean) F-15,....Got a few boxes of others somewhere but I think you are correct...I must be having a senior moment...lol... I remember playing a game that I thought was Flanker, on the Amiga....I just looked and I have SSI Flanker..versions 1.0, 2.0, 2.5 and Su-27 Squadron Commander's Edition but they are all for Windows 95. I am going to look again...but you are probably correct I am probably confusing Mig-29 for the Flanker. Been a while...lol. Lazduc
-
Jens, Cool, Funny thing...I remember ( since I am 70 ) all the old flight sims. But at the time I did not realize that folks in other countries were also into flight sims. I was really impressed by the Flanker series...for the Amiga which I had. I think I still have 95% of all the flight sims ever released. I have the first sim released for the TRS 80 and also still have all the computers that they ran on. I remember wondering, "How was it that the best simulator was developed in, at the time, the Soviet Union??" I thought in that country, at that time, the general public did not have access to computers. And an Amiga???? How did they get their hands on an Amiga??? Laz

I attend a retro gaming club....commodore 64 is the main focus but we also have other 8 bit machines and new stuff. We are mostly nerds of course...Engineers, several Lawyers, couple of Doctors, Programmers, writers, etc. Several members are avid flight sim types. One guy has a 737 cockpit...complete. I too am into flight sims....of course. There are a number of flight sims for these old computers. Several guys developed a interface device that replaces the floppy drive on the ole "64" in addition too Internet access and 4gb of flash memory along with 2 usb ports. I can store all the software ever developed for the Com 64 in the chip memory on the device. No more floppys. The device can emulate any floppy drive...5.25/3.5 and any model...pretty cool. Do not need a hard drive. The retro gaming market is huge....last convention in Portland drew over 10,000 people. So yes to someone developing a new/old retro flight sim. In Europe there seems to be a large number of retro types also. Lazduc

Any Interest in Motion Simulator
lazduc replied to lazduc's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Motion Simulator Hello Einherjer, If I were going to control motors I would use an Arduino. But I will not be using motors to move this platform. It is pneumatic. The only motor is on the air compressor. Electric/servo driven movements are too abrupt. With pneumatics the movements are fluid much more realistic. They are also more cost effective and much less expensive...by far. The control is far easier also. Lazduc -
I have built a 4 axis motion platform for my sim. I am designing and proto-typing another configuration. Do any of you have any interest in this?? My projected cost for a 2 axis platform is subject to how much and type material you can provide. Adding one or two more axis to this design has already been incorporated. One design is a motion seat system. The other is a more complete cockpit. Interested? Let me know. Lazduc :D

Just got word from Amazon.....pushed back the delivery date to the first of May........I preordered 3 months ago....:D Could be good news as the latest news from ED is 1.08 should be out.....everything is subject to change..... and also they indicated the new engine will be out later this year.....also subject to change...:music_whistling: but all in all things may be interesting...especially if the 3rd partys get their products out. I will be able to finally load my new computer. And maybe the new 3d system glasses will be out. Oculus... Lazduc :D

Good News ....sorta Received a news letter from ED. It stated " - We are making great progress on implementing our new graphics engine into DCS version 1.3.0 later this year. " Since 1.08 will be released sometime in the future...I guess this means we will have to wait through 1,08 and then 1.09, and I cannot remember how long the time was between 1.07 and 1.08 ( when it gets released) but its appears like a it will hopefully be a short time between 1.08 and 1.09 if the implementing of the graphics engine will be later this year. (((((The new engine brings several important improvements, notably: improved visual qualities, DX11 effects, improved performance, and the ability to support multiple maps including the long-awaited Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR) map! ))))))) I am reading multiple maps.....HURAY........but will the NTTR map be included with this integration when it is released?? I also purchased most of the modules about 6 months ago....but I have never installed any of these on my new ( getting older) computer as I have been waiting for this new engine......so I wonder if these titles will be incompatible???? Do I have to repurchase all the titles again?? Lazduc :D

Flight sim fans, I have been a flight sim fan since TRS-80 days. I have purchased most SSI titles, Lockon, FC, then DCS. Around 20 titles. I have also purchased numerous other sims and other subject types. Since Wags request for info on tanks and seeing the lack of progress on the flight sim side of their business I am convinced of ED's move away from flight sims and towards the combat type sim. I see third party developers doing the lions share of flight sim progress. I also see the development of mostly heli types. I have not seen anything but a facelift on the FC series. I see ED ( commercial side) trying to tie different platforms together(ASL) and having a difficult time of it and spending development time on this instead of aircraft and maps focused on flying. The third party developers are caught in a limbo...waiting for ED to finish Edge and Nevada and I have seen several of them drop away. I read about new vaporware titles with everything from aircraft carriers to submarines to every jet manufactured from 1950 onward and I see nothing... You and I have waited for the hinted forth coming new titles for years! What has been released has been a strange mix of aircraft, platforms and fixes....with unstable updates. Most of the new software introduced seems to take advantage of ED's military business rather than the commercial side. IMHO I think ED has lost sight of the core reason why many of us hang in there. I for one want jets, flying, new areas to fly in.... I am sure there are many who like the military combat sim. But this company's target audience was flight sim types. I still cannot understand the reason for the P-51 although with the kickstarter ww2 it does fit but that title will be a long long way off..reading that forem's posts. But the p-51 now??? The Mig 21...how can they release it when Edge and Nevada are not out? This seems to indicate it was developed for the older software engine. I enjoy realism in flying but I do not enjoy a tedious start up procedure and it really does not bother me to have a rivet out of place. It does not seem important to me to have developers spend countless hours trying to get a mundane item like a latch that should move left but moves right corrected when it does not make any difference in operation only in appearance. But I realize to some this is a huge sticking point. I would think that repairing all the bugs before releasing any more software would be most important. I read about dcs world 1.7xxxx and also what will be in 1.8xxxx or 1.9xxxxx and even 2.0xx. And these are suppose to be updates....or bug fixes?? Can we expect a final product or just a succession of updates? I would rather purchase an additional title with new graphics or gameplay or more realism, different aircraft, new areas than updates that repair updates on the same old software. My thoughts...yours may differ. Lazduc :D

Steam Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and Steam Specific Issues
lazduc replied to ShaZe88's topic in Steam Support
Steam ????? I went to Steam but could not find the info I wanted. I have never used Steam and would like to know....When I purchase a title from them, do I then download that title to my machine or does it reside on a server somewhere? Also when I purchase a title do I also get DCS world latest version and can I change that particular version for an older version...like 1.6 instead of 1.7. Are all the releases of DCS on Steam the final version or are some of them still beta versions, and how can I tell?? Thanks, Lazduc :D -
I would appreciate a procedure for loading the core, DCS, and the modules and FC which I believe includes all the newest aircraft from that series. I have purchased most of the titles. I have a new computer I will load all of this on. It has Win7. I will load all onto a ssd drive except the OS which will be on a different ssd. I do not want any BETA software, so please indicate which is a final releasè. At this time is 1.6 a final release without problems? I read that 1.7 is in beta so I do not want it. Also I do not want the auto loader to update anything without approval. Or should I continue waiting for EDGE as I have read it will be totally different. And will probably entail a complete reload of everthing. I have waited through 1.4, 1.5, 1.6........and it appears all have numerous issues. I do not really want to wait any longer for a stable release........or is there one???? I just want to load the software I have purchased without having to reload, update, reconfigure, repair, etc. etc etc. I can fly my old FC platium without any problems........so help me out......I want to use the software and enjoy it, not spend all my time trouble shooting. I have not responded to many posts because of the fanboys getting upset at anything they feel is not super complimentary towards ED or DCS. Questioning anything is always deemed inappropriate and offensive. Their response is, " Its really none of your business just sit back and relax and WAIT for the Team to come up with an excuse"....and you are asked to not question or comment on the excuse. Being a paying customer of their products does not, according to the fanboys, give permission to say or write anything that is considered criticism. I have read numerous posts that have valid questions by many of the community which would have explained numerous problems but are smothered by the fanclub rhetoric. Too many questions are just left unanswered or answered with sarcastic innuendo. By selling a service/product, the seller assumes a responsibliity to the buyer. Suggesting a buyer not question or comment on their purchase is preposterous. Lazduc
