Purchasing options I am considering: I7-6700k, 16/32gb ram, (2) 980-TI, (2)500gb SSD, Tower case, 1500watt PS, (2) 4tb HD, asus -Z170 Deluxe mb, dvd drive, water cooling for cpu, extra fans, 50 inch 4k monitor. Same as above but (1) Titan instead of the (2) 980-TI). Opinions, would a single Titan work better than a sli setup??? Seems that sli setups are not working correctly in some cases. CTRL/Enter works sometimes. :D Laz

I am confused. What is open beta compared to beta release? Why? I also do not understand a release of beta or open beta 1.5 vs 2.0??? Why release a pre-beta of a beta or alpha(?) that will not support the newer 3rd party aircraft addons or intended content. Why not wait (and what's the difference since we have waited years so far) until 2.0 with the new maps and aircraft are intergraded into a finished product....with few bugs. I would like to think that with 30 or so testers that they could uncover most of the big bugs. These testers would or already are doing this. Need more testers...just ask the community and I am sure ED can find more qualified persons. I for one do not look forward to a unfinished or beta (pre, open...etc) version with half the product missing. I read last night about all the missed promised release dates from other large games and find they all have the same outcome.....disappointed supporters/customers. So why even post expected release dates ? Even estimated dates are foolish.... ED has a 5% or so of the software developers then say, Star citizen, and they have experience uncountable delays plus they have 80million thrown at their project, plus their entire staff is focused on just this one game. ED is working on other projects at the same time. According to some here, there is a fairly stable playable version of DCS with most of the modules. I can use this and wait for the release of 2.0 instead of a incomplete version such as 1.5. As mentioned, if they need more help in testing all they have to do is ask. My take is have more qualified testers instead of a mass of duplicate redundant error submissions by well intentioned folks that just slow down real bug squashing. I think that is what you end up with by relying on a beta or pre-beta (alpha) release submitted to a forum of untrained, unqualified but well intentioned audience. IMHO. Lazduc

Errrrrr, I thought that NTTR will not be released until 2.0 comes out....which may be next year....2016. Have I missed something?? :D Donkey says...... " Also we can only assume since it was never released for the current version of DCS that the Nevada map was glitchy and poorly rendered on even high end machines which is their reason for waiting to release it on the comming release of DCS 1.5! Skate, Would you be kind enough to address each question I have asked in my previous post as it would help me understand. :thumbup: I also do not understand "beta branch" nor conversion of the release (which release?) to "open beta" and if it was mentioned in the past I missed it. You mention "Running the latest version ( what version of what and does it include my modules that I would have installed ?) would be the better option, or install open beta ( what is open beta ?) when 1.5 is released to___ have it install fresh.. Does this mean I should have the auto installer so 1.5 will install over 1.2.16???? Also I want to retain a copy of the latest stable update release on a separate partition.....does this mean I should have two versions of 1.2.16...one which will be changed by the auto updater changing it to 1.5? OR..... Can I just install 1.5 by itself on its own partition and will my modules which will be installed on 1.2.16 also be recognized by 1.5?? Thanks, Laz :D

Let me clarify...I have not loaded any DCS world or any updates. I have purchased most of the modules but have never downloaded them or installed them. I have been waiting for 2.0. Now with the expected release of 1.5 brings my previous questions. As stated I have lost count...thanks for the information on 1.2.16. Is this the latest stable update? Do I have to have it on my machine to be able to load 1.5? As previous indicated I want to load the last stable update onto its own partition. Then I had hoped to load 1.5 onto its own partition. I do not know if 1.2.16 after I load all my purchased modules onto this update will be shared with 1.5???? Do I have to tweak my purchased modules to be able to use on 1.5? Again since 1.5 is a completely different engine wont all the older updates not be compatible with 1.5....I am confused. :cry: Thanks for any information. ( I have an older computer that I have the boxed versions of DCS on that I use....along with FC2.) I have a new computer I want to use for DCS and several other games. But I want to load DCS 1.5/2.0 first and get it stable with all my equipment. Laz :D

I lost count. The latest and last update is 1.2.9 I think. When 1.5 is released and since it is the new 2.0 minus the map, everything prior will become obsolete. There would not be any reason to install anything prior to 1.5 unless the latest update (1.2.9) is stable....errr post beta and would be a playable backup minus all the improvements that 1.5 brings. Loading 1.2.9 and all the modules I have purchased on a partition and then when 1.5 is available can I load it onto another partition by itself and then any new updates would only update 1.5...is this going to be possible? Will the modules I have purchased be available to the partition with 1.5 if all my modules are attached to the last updated version...1.2.9? Will they share? Or are all the modules I have purchased have to be tweaked to work with 1.5?? Thanks Laz

So....version 1.5. I recall that 2.0 will have multi-gpu support aka SLI. Matt mentioned that the only difference will be no maps in 1.5. The code will be the same in 1.5 and 2.0. Will the multi-gpu support be implemented in the early release of 1.5???? This was going to be one of the new features as mentioned in the previous descriptions of what 2.0 was to include. I have two video cards that are begging to be used.

In PC PILOT, Wags is interviewed and states, " Other than a high end DX11 graphics card, system specs as far as I know are not going to change. Just because we're going to DCS World 2 doesn't mean we're going to be increasing system specs. For the most part people should be seeing a performance boost." He also states that he sees a fully realized WW2 environment, a Korean and hopefully a Vietnam environment. Without typing everything he mentioned I will paraphrase one more interesting item. He says the only difference between DCS1 and DCS2 will be outside the cockpit. Minor lighting and shadows inside the cockpit. Other than that there will not be any differences or not any between DCS1 and 2. The most noticeable difference will be the terrain, weather and objects, and of course the maps.

Question Yes I understand its not for sale now. But it seems like it may be offered before DCS2 and EDGE....which I did not follow....err understand. Like I mentioned.....isn't the NTTR map programmed to take advantage of EDGE and DCS2?:dunno:

I also agree that ED should not give any details of any developments they are working on until they are ready to be released.....In beta. Clearly marketing software has changed. Just mention that the developers are working on such and such brings a title wave of innuendo. These days of releasing products in alpha and charging full price seems confusing. There many supporters of ED that will test their products for free. And sign NDA agreements. And have the knowledge to do so. Please, I am not trying to excoriate ED. Just trying to understand. I am also confused on the numerous projects the ED is doing. Given that DCS is not their main development focus, and I have asked this before, how many programmers does ED have working on DCS products? I read that ED had 200 or so employees. Then I read lately that ED has about 50 employees. It appears that other 3rd party developers are able to bring out a DCS compatible product within a year. Their teams are usually about 4 or 5 members....and do it in their spare time. With the list of projects that ED's employees are involved in DCS, its incredible what they have accomplished. I have to guess that ED has 4 or 5 full time employees working on DCS. That's a lot of overtime. And my hats off too them.

Yep, go outta town and bang.....ED has a quick sale....75% off all modules....Tacky...if I were you I would have purchase them all. But damn the sale is over.....I would have jumped on the two or three modules I do not have.

Sith, I am surprised they haven't done so by now...of course now with new core enhancements to the graphics engine....possibly everyone is just waiting...

I reconfigured several items...Update win7, cleaned registers, reloaded virus checker and changed some settings, changed a few settings in networking and updated video driver and systems drivers.....it no longer crashes going to the new site....cannot really say what fixed it. I did not have time to change one item and then check if that change was the solution. Laz

I would venture a guess that at any given time ED might have 10 to 25% of their programmers working on DCS. Their other commercial projects ....the ones that are paying the bills take precedence. Given that ED has about 55 or so employees, not all programmers, leaves about the same numbers that some of the 3rd party developers have working on DCS projects. Its actually remarkable ED's accomplishments with this simulator. Takes time....and with the rigors of development everything cannot be done simultaneously. Hundreds of little program projects must be developed and done in systematic order.....compound this with developing a new engine...new maps, new planes, and fitting this all into a huge multiplayer , multifaceted environment with other 3rd party players, not to mention engineering this into hundreds of different computer systems makes one want to run and hide. Hugh undertaking....land, sea and air warfare. Remember this is being done by a small team and as such its amazing to realize the effort that goes into this. I am guilty of impatience at times myself. I am pleased that they continue with this project and have picked up the pieces a few times on their dime and never heard them cry uncle. Looking ahead. I have tried numerous times now and get the same results. If I go to the following link....http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com my computer crashes. I checked all my video settings and all is ok. It seems like that site wants to change my video settings. :helpsmilie: I can go to ED Forums and everything is ok. Try and use the above link and it crashes. Any ideas??? Laz :D

Just tried again and the video came up but it was rather strange again. I then just went to the new DCS site and IT CRASHED again. This time recovery did not work and had to totally reboot the computer.....hey whats going on with the new DCS site? Anyone else seeing this......?? Laz
