Guys, Where can I find a list of new or excellent hotus/joysticks/ foot pedals other than thrustwaster, CH stuff, Logitech, Saitek and other plastic junk? Thanks, I looked on the web but only really found references to the above but did not find any information or links to what are mentioned here. Thanks, Laz :D

I downloaded the latest version of DCS. The free trial version. Does this version have the latest video engine/lighting etc? Reason I ask is that I downloaded this onto an older system. It has a I72600K not overclocked, 8gb ram, and two 6850's in sli. Supposedly DCS does not take advantage of sli...which in this case I believe it does not. The cards are very old Amd. They only have 1gb of memory. This system, old as it is, runs this latest version of DCS quite well. I get 60 to 70FPS and 40 to 50 FPS over cities. So I wonder why there are so many having trouble? What am I not seeing? The monitor is a viewsonic 1920x1080. Lazduc :D I spent a wad of money on a new system lately....other than my thought that I would need super power to run VR...think I fooled myself.

When I tried downloading Normandy...it started but stopped with a message..SSD out of space. I have a small ssd that is almost full but have installed all DCS modules onto another drive. Does DCS load something first, that has to go onto C: drive? Then gives an option to load onto your drive of choice.??..?? I have downloaded DCS before and did not run into this problem. I also noted that when I check C drive it has a weird partition labeled as F: system reserve...however when I search C I do not see any partitions. I had 3.5gb left on drive C. After I tried loading Normandy I now have 600MB on drive C. But there is not a sign of anything on C relating to DCS or Normandy. I have not a clue where that 3gb went....??\ Thanks for any suggestions or help. ( I ordered another ssd 500gb. The little one in the machine is only 64gb. I am going to try and clone the 64gb to the 500gb...never have done this....anyone?? :D Laz

Skate, Great, thanks for the info. Do you know if ED is going to continue with multiple builds after the merge? What I mean is ED going to have a build that is a wip with the intention of having the community help spot and report bugs? Like when a new module is introduced, instead of integrating into 2.5 stable with the chance of it causing problems, just have another build for testing, alpha testing if you will? Just curious, as I wonder with the communities help in support lead to a faster stable release?
-
Ask a question here and get ............ ED has mentioned several issues that they are currently doing that need to be finished prior to the merge. I simply asked what they were. I really don't know if any information would do You any good.... I am relieved that you are not doing any of the work......with your condescending remarks.... and your illusion of certainty, that information from ED leads to perceptions of unfulfilled promises is most absurd and completely misleading. As misleading as your perception of my simple question. Please, if you cannot contribute in a constructive and civil manner try keeping your unwarranted responses and put them where the sun doesn't shine.
-
What else that has been said by ED needs to be finished before the merge of 1.5/2.0 into finally 2.5. Errr hope I got the numbers correct...:D Laz

I keep hearing that flight simulators are a very niche market. With all the different company's developing products, not just software for this niche market, leads one to believe that this is not a niche market. There are many segments to this market. Perhaps it may be true that only a diverse customer base wants a study type simulator....having to spend too much time learning to use it and the manual studying......and listening to the rivet counters expressing doubts about the authenticity of something they have no knowledge of other than their opinions tends to put off lots of folks who may interpret that as characteristic of a title they will not be interested in... so they chose to use a non-study sim and get the enjoyment from that. Each to his own. One has to remember that this is a simulation of a programmer's idea after their own experience/knowledge of how it is. Its also a estimation of how said simulation is to real life if that is what is wanted. Laz

And my question.....why hasn't ED announce to the third party developers a list of models that they want? Then after getting responses from those dev's that have the required data, experience to develop that module chose that one who is appropriate. Since ED supposedly has a long term plan for their vision of business profit and overall composition of the planned completed segments for each era and knows the aircraft/sandbox parts needed....well they can choose accordingly. They have knowledge, or at lease should have, the specific parts needed for that particular segment and the confidence, that third party will deliver......err to their specifications......and to be able to keep up with all the tweaks, fixes, changes, updates, upgrades and last but not least, the engine/graphics rewrites. I just down loaded 1.5.6.5199.291 onto my older system which is a I7 2600k @ 3.45ghz, 8gb, 2 AMD 6850's(2010 circa) in Crossfire. Only 1gb of video ram. Crossfire will only use one card's memory. And DCS will only use one card. That old machine runs 1.56.5199.291 perfectly at 40fps and no studders. Its at 1920x1080 @ 60hz. This is the free download version. I cannot tell the difference between it and Lock-on as graphics are concerned running at same settings. Both look good to me. Laz

I just downloaded 1.5.6.5199.291. What computer specs. do I need to run this. Is this version that needs a fast computer (processor at 4ghz, graphics card with 4GB, or will this free version run on older computers. Does this version represent the latest graphics/sound? How is this version compared to 2.0? Thanks Laz :D

Cic, I just looked up the drive I purchased...its an Samsung 950 Pro M.2 2280 NVME. For just trial I ordered the 256GB. I also have a 500GB Samsung ssd that I will put win 10 on and a few other games but will load DCS onto the 950 pro. Still trying to find a place to host photos. Want to email you the photos. Would you mind pm me your email address...make it easier to send the photos. Laz

I was wondering if anyone has an M2 ssd drive and has any information on the speed of these drives vs the regular ssd running DCS? Laz

Thanks for the answers. I am changing the video cards. They are heavy. Will try and get this system running next week.

Spent 5.5 hours DL 1.5/2.0 and all the modules I have purchased onto my older system. 1.5 used 32gb. 2.0 used 61gb as module mgr picked what would work in each....I think. Since 1.5 is supposedly the stable version, why didn't module mgr not allow FC3 to load into it? How can I load FC3 into 1.5? ( It loaded into 2.0) 1.5 is loaded onto a 1TB hd in its own folder. Module mgr loaded the modules onto this folder. 2.0 is also loaded onto the same drive, different folder. Module mgr loaded everything I have purchased including NTTR, Viggen and what ever did not load into 1.5 that needed 2.0 specifications. Is there a list that shows what modules are compatible with what build? :book: I have not authorized any of the modules. My intention finally, is to transfer the two Folders that hold all of DCS on the old system on the 1tb drive and move the modules onto a ssd on the new system. ( I am thinking of getting a USB ssd and using that for the transfer. Once everything is on the ssd I can either run it on the New System or move it too another ssd that is in the new system.???) Whats the best way to do this? Once I have DCS on the new system I will authorize and run it for the first time. Today Fedx delivered my 2 1080ti mod2's which will replace the 2 1080ftw that are currently in the new system...that has yet to be turned on. Reason I made this move was to have the gpu power to run my 4k display 50in. And the VR. And other software. My thinking was to avoid conflict with starforce. Is it possible to DL DCS world with the two freebe aircraft and run it without starforce jumping in?? I think I will have to DL it onto another Folder and then run it separately. I will not load any modules into this just to use this to see how it runs. Does the free/trial version have all the latest graphics/repairs/updates ? Long story....I have only run Lock-on...never run anything newer. But have purchased almost all modules during the last 10 years. Laz :D
-
Just wondered...if DCS has to be running, wont that enable Starforce to mark that particular computer and then mark every module downloaded? In other words, running DCS, wont Starforce be activated? Then moving everything to a different computer will trigger the protection? Laz
-
Thanks for the information. Funny I have posted similar questions and request for info along this same line and never received accurate information. I was always under the impression with the few answers I found that you could download the modules separately. I will pm you a message with a little info on why I wanted to do this. If you don't mind. Laz

I want to download each module I have onto separate 8gb usb thumb drives. First...is 8gb large enough for each module. ( What are the largest modules?) I think that NTTR , Normandy and DCS world are the largest...what size are they? Second...does Starforce attach to each download? I want to install these modules onto a new system...not the system I will use to do the downloading. I can purchase larger usb drives...if that is needed. I do not want Starforce to cause problems when I load these from the usb drives onto my new system. ( Like Starforce sees a new system or different configuration from the original download computer. If I download to my download computer and not my intended game computer and then transfer all the modules and maps to the gaming computer, ( I will download as separate modules) from my download computer to the gaming computer.....is this going to cause problems with Starforce?? I would download the modules to my download computer saving all the trouble of downloading to separate usb drives. But I think the modules might try and combine everything into a single volume....how do I do this without DCS world trying to install all the automatic fixes and repairs etc and thinking it wants to create the entire complete game?? Thanks for your help. Laz :D

[RESOLVED]Anybody Who Can Understand Logs?
lazduc replied to BuzzU's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
Buzz, Another old retired guy here.....The last post someone mentioned your virus software. Do you have Kaspersky? Sometimes this software will check a list of protected sites and if it finds one on your list it will open a protected page.....you can disable this by going to your protected sites list and turn off the one for DCS. Go to safe money...the list will be there. Keep trying.....I know it is frustrating as hell. -
Can I download DCS World to a thumb drive? Can I download all my modules to separate thumb drives? I have about 20 8gb thumb drives. I want to start downloading everything I have purchased. I do not at this time ( putting in new graphics cards in two weeks) want to download anything to my new built computer as I will be changing some things that will probably trigger the copy protection. After downloading everything and have made all the changes to my new system, then I will install my pick of what I want to load from my modules. Should be in about two weeks. :D If I use a Oculus and then change over to a 50in display or move to my triple displays...will this trigger the copy protection? The reason for putting each module on a separate thumb drive is to have the choice of what I want to have access to. If I have everything loaded and there are upgrades/repairs/that load automatically and cause problems, I will only have to deal with one or two modules. When an upgrade comes along for the different modules I will download over the existing module after I find that it will not cause problems. This way I will only have the modules that will operate correctly on my system to start. Since I have about two weeks to wait until my new cards come in I have time for downloading. Laz :D

"Join Date has No Bearing on one's Value, Nor History, Nor Contributions to the Community." So smoozing and sycophant displays are the only methods of determining one's worth around here.

Cichlid, Look at NRG's join date.....then look at yours...who has history?? Thanks Exray for your information. 2018 hope my eyes hold out. Laz

Let me rephrase this. With what has been reported by ED over the past years, when should the 2.5 version be released? Chiclid, you say "Anyone's guesses are worthless...and you say, " Right now, I would imagine even ED doesn't know..." [You imagine,... isn't that a guess on your part]....LOL. Taking that into consideration, I will take your comment as, you say, "worthless". Probad, you say "whatever happened to just living life as it came too much crystalballing these days". Bare in mind I am 75 years old. I live life as it comes. I just don't have a hell of a lot of time left to wait...for things like software development....seems like it has been a long time for several important developments already. Years in fact. So I am curious as too what others who have a much better familiarity with timelines penned here as to when we might expect to see the launch/release of 2.5 Since my time is becoming more valuable I try and focus my interests on entertainment that is enjoyable to me. I do not enjoy plodding through software that is in constant flux. Hoping that 2.5 will bring relief to this situation. NRG-Vamp, Thank you for your estimation as your "post count" and "reputation" add validity to your expertise in your opinion. Again thanks sincerely for your input and understanding where I may be coming from. Lazduc

Is there any guess when 2.5 may come? Reason I ask ......want to plan ahead for building new simulator. I would like to see your time line from information that has been announced here.

Who owns DCS? Does Eagle Dynamics? Does the Fighter Collection? I read where The Fighter Collection is also a software developer and as indicated, owns DCS. This was confusing in this article I read. So does TFC hire ED to also develop aircraft that TFC wants developed to integrate into DCS? So ED is the overall manager but not the owner of DCS as such? Does Matt own part of DCS? I believe he is a producer...just curious if he is also an owner? ED also develops military software and can leverage some of its military product into DCS....like the Combined Arms product line for us civilians. I know that several of the other third party developers also develop for military. I would think they can also within restrictions use parts of their code for commercial sales.

Tesla Gigafactory in Nevada?
lazduc replied to Aluminum Donkey's topic in DCS: Nevada Test and Training Range
Yep, Its in Reno.
