  1. Hey guys, can I use my bonus points on the pre-release Viggen?
  2. I read most of those postings. Lots of good info. Thanks for the threads. Lots to think about. I am really interested in milling small plastic labels and small faceplates etc. Still deciding on the cnc mill. Laz
  3. Do any of you have any experience with the cnc routers on ebay? The one that caught my attention was a water cooled 800watt 30 X 40 for around 900.00. Are these usable for this engraving and light circuit board routing? It is a 4 axis machine. What software is available....like in fonts and for that matter any suggestions on good software? I've read that the supplied software with these machines...sucks. :D Thanks Laz
  4. Sometime ago ED announced their adding or including something that would support SLI. ED said that they will support SLI in their upcoming new graphics engine..Edge. I purchased two 780's in a new computer build at that time in anticipation of their stated support of SLI. As I recall it took over two years to program this new graphics engine and ED dropped SLI support. And as of a few weeks ago's announcement, ED is re-doing the lighting feature that was also announced in that new engine years ago. This is probably due to the support of new dx11 modes. So I would agree that SLI is pointless in DCS. I do however not know if ED is supporting Nvidia's 3-D? I believe that ED is supporting Occulus at this time. SLI support is a mixed bag....I have read other games do take advantage of SLI...but Occulus currently does not take advantage of this....but reading more information it seems like they are working on SLI support.
  5. Didn't Edge have a new lighting system? Err several years ago didn't they announce a new graphics engine? I mean a total new engine? They posted several photos of the then, new lighting.... They are planning on releasing another DCS version....2.5. I cannot keep up with all the naming conventions for the patches, releases, T something..graphics, beta, alpha??? When 2.5 arrives, what will it be..early alpha with early access only for those who want to bug hunt or some other alpha/beta 2.5.xxxxx. Is ED planning on releasing a stable foundation (DCS 2.5) so a customer can purchase other titles and know that they will function correctly? I know ED checks that other third party software must meet their strict requirements or are ED planning on the good humor and long enduring patience of their customer base and release a version that is a work in progress that will require much attention.
  6. I'm really glad to see and hear of all you guys over 50 that still enjoy flight simulators. I also see where most have flown some of the older sims. The time sure flys as the older you get...seems to me. I am waiting for 2.5 or what ever the stable build will be. Got a new computer and only want to load it with something I wont have to play computer tech. How many of you still have your old computers? Do any of you remember B TO B or Back to Bagdad? If you( first time I ever heard of putting in a second video card...outside of a 3DFX dual board) installed a cheap mono video card beside your evga or svga card....and a mono monitor again besides you color vga monitor and then pressed F7..woaha..you had the radar display on the mono monitor. I thought that was the coolest thing since sliced bread. (And I remember when most bread was not sliced...and the ice man brought big blocks of ice for your Ice Box..if you were nice the ice man would chip you off a small piece of ice....and of course the coal man...stayed away from him kinda..he would joke and say he would put us down the coal shoot. I also remember the Junk man coming down the street in an old horse drawn wagon with all kinds of stuff hanging off his wagon and his horse always had a straw hat on with a flower in it.....you can blame him for my addiction to airplanes...one day he had a toy plane...and he gave it to me..cause I always brought out a carrot for his horse..man was I the king of the block with a real metal airplane....I was 4 then. As deaf as I am and without my hearing aids, sounds great. Just like standing on the line at the Reno Air Races.....hmmmm, maybe that's why my hearing aint up to snuff. LOL Laz
  8. These stories are great. Lots of fun reading them and looking forward to them. Kills the time waiting for you know what. By the way I have a TI99-4A.. with the huge floppy drive/serial/sound add-on. I have a number of Apple computers. What was the strangest computer you ever came across? I'll bet some of you older gentlemen have come across systems that are almost unknown except for a few. Let me start out....see if you ever heard of an EXO system? One more that comes to mind....is yes the MindSet computer. What have you seen?? Lazduc
  9. If I get it I will only keep the pedals and then give the hotas/joystick to someone else....that way you are actually giving to two people, what could be better? Lazduc
  10. Great stories....keep em commin. Way back...I purchased a TRS-80. The first program (on tape cassette ) was FS-1. Wire frame.. 41 years I have had a computer and flight sim software. I still have all the software and the computers. Imsai, Tandy 6000, Amiga, Apple, Commodore, well over 80 systems. Cant remember all the names. lol. And of course my new systems....and probably over 200 Flight sim software titles. Its ironic, I read here about members wanting such and such models of their particular interest.....I have software that already models everything (almost) coming. Course most are not "Study Sim" types but still they are a kick to fly. I also have over 100 Radio controlled aircraft simulators. Every plane on DCS I have a RC aircraft sim. Speaking of RC...I just finished the T-50 Pakfa. Also have the FW190, Me-109, Su-35, Mig-29 and the F-22. These guys weigh in over 6-8 lbs and use ducted fans. 40k to 60rpm..60,000 rpm, 10 blades...sound like the real thing. Next jet I am getting is the Mig-21. Clear Skys..Happy Holidays Lazduc
  11. Just wanted to see how many folks are in these age brackets. :D I am pushing past 70. :music_whistling: Lazduc
  12. FoxHound, Ward wants to know if your device has enough inputs to control a CDU device....which has many, many buttons.
  13. Hey Cichlidfan.....Lighten up man. The guy is new....and the 200 pages of all the different confusing mind numbing installs is beyond difficult if you are new too this.
  14. Given that DCS does not use multicore processors, and that it took 3 years to redo the graphics engine, how long do you think it will take ED to rewrite the code to be able to use multicore cpu's and play catch up with DX12....? So planning on getting a multicore cpu for DCS is not worth doing..... If you are playing other games that support multicore cpu's, then that is worth considering.
  15. I just ordered a 400hz power supply. Most of these, since they are aircraft related and therefore command an outrageous price :shocking:, were beyond my income level. But I found one without the stratospheric price. Now I can power up my "real" F-4 flight director and HSI instruments in my current flight sim build. Am waiting not only for 2.5 but also for Deezle to give some advice in interfacing Arduino with DCS. :music_whistling: Laz :D
  16. You did not mention what video card you have. I purchased a Sony xbr 49x800D. For the price and specs, it is excellent for gaming. That's all I use it for. I also purchased the Oculus Rift. I have not taken it out of the box yet. Will use it for space type games. (Will have my other eye operated on in a week, first one did not go well.) Have not installed DCS yet on the new computer......waiting for 2.5....from what I read, it will be some time in 2017 and probably be an alpha release. I have several other flight/space/car sims loaded to keep me gooinggggg. By the way, my new Thrustmaster T-16000 hotas arrived yesterday night....on Sunday too. I did not get the pedals. So far I really like it......price was super and I like it much better than my $500.00 Thrustmaster Warthog pos. Laz
  17. Bare this in mind.....Occam's razor. Lazduc
  18. Need to Know, Good info, thanks.
  19. Perhaps you now understand where I am coming from....errr going too..... I am 75 so if it seem like I am a little misunderstanding.....time is getting more valuable and I don't like spending time trying to correct someone's errors....now where the hell did I put that mouse...... Laz
  20. Confusion personified, is it any wonder folks mix up things. 1.5,2.0, 2.5, T-3, T-4, a bizarre number of updates which I think need the proper updater software to update correctly and which do it automatically sometimes...and introduction of new modules which sometimes are not compatible with the current build which sometimes needs to be backed up to the previous build....and which build is alpha, beta and it goes on. I assume a lot of members have kept up with all this. I have not. I also have not installed anything since Flaming cliffs. I have purchased most modules waiting for a half- way stable release.(Not an alpha/beta). I continue to wait for and look forward to 2.5 or whatever ED calls it. Hopefully it will be stable.....I would think that a stable foundation will enable third party developers easier paths to build modules/maps for DCS. Just my humble opinion.
  21. I understand from what is said, when 2.5 is finally released it will be in an alpha state....with another lengthy wait between alpha-beta and finally a somewhat stable release...probably called 3.5 or something....and in hindsight, realistically, will be several years at least. Hopefully more third party aircraft and maps will be available by then. So you are correct, Cichlid, several generations of hardware will pass-by. I just do not want to load everything and spend hours trying to get all the modules I have paid for ( about 600.00) to run. So I will just wait.....Its what I am use to with this software. The modules or should I say titles I play are the lock-on series and their box versions that I acquired. (P-51, A-10C, Black Shark) I have purchased other flight simulator software that I enjoy and have also enjoyed several space sims. I have recently had eye surgery so cannot use the Oculus rift but am looking forward to using it in several more weeks when my eyes heal. Thanks for your information and comments. Laz
  22. Guys, I finished my latest computer. I7-6700K, 2-1080, all ssd, one M2 for OS and some games that need this superfast access. I have not dwn/ld any of the DCS modules yet. I have purchased most. I also purchased the Oculus Rift and a 49" UHD 4K Sony TV. Response time and lag time are exceptional. I have installed other gaming software. I want to down load all the modules and DCS world. I've waited this long so I don't care if I have to wait longer for stable builds. I keep reading about problems with the different modules when a new build is released. Seems that some of the third party modules have problems after the new build is released. I have asked in another post, which modules/builds have bugs that have not been addressed and cause that module to be difficult to play. The problems stated by forum members seems to indicate a lot of time must be spent in getting many of the modules and DCS world to run without crashing or shuddering or other anomalies that distract enough so the playing time is limited... As I mentioned years ago, I do not want to spend hours trouble shooting any problems with this software. Question.....should I wait until 2.5 is released? And when it is released will it be stable or will it be an alpha release and all the third party modules must make changes to accommodate the hopefully stable build? Seems like all the third party developers have to play catch up when ED releases a new build. I have purchased almost all of the modules as time has worn on as I waited for first, the new engine, sli support, fixes, 2.0 then 1.5 just too support this gamming series. As enticements have come up to keep my enthusiasm going, I find development times far exceed mentioned expectations. It seems like this software is always in a state of flux. I would like to load this game in full with everything I have purchased onto a separate ssd. But I do not want to activate this series until it is mostly stable. ( When 2.5 shows up) I will then decide which computer I will mount this drive into. I believe that if I install now , I will not be able to move it to another computer. So I just want to download everything onto this drive without installing it.....is this possible? I picked up 6-16gb flash drives. Can I down load the modules separately to these drives....then later load them to dcs world environment? I appreciate your respectable opinions. Laz :D
  23. The module in PC Pilot is a Just Flight production. Just flight is a distributor and uses other developers...... I find it interesting the different releases of modules that roughly match the dates with DCS and FSX, same aircraft but sometimes different publishers/developers. The similarities are catching. IMHO. I do not expect 3rd parties to not negotiate with other outlets.
  24. Thanks for your answers....would hope that these will be addressed/repaired before 2.5. Any guesses when 2.5 will be released? I suppose it will be a alpha build??? I also noticed in the latest PC Pilot mag that several of the third party developers have released the same aircraft to FSX and DCS. Hawk by Veao. They list is a dual seat.....wonder if the same problems carried over to FSX?
  25. I would like to see your comments on the most egregious long term bugs that have not been addressed. The reason; when I am confronted with these bugs I will not waste my time trying to troubleshoot them. Guys here have many times mentioned bugs that have not been addressed and have been known for many generations. I believe that this list will help elevate the frustration of running into a problem and then having to post it here only to find that it is an old problem......(so trying to search through this forum for answers and getting annoyed and giving up ) one can turn to this list. Please list the bug, module effected, serious negative game results, and the time when first encountered. :joystick: Please also do not list any new bugs as they are probably being addressed. By new I mean within the latest 3 patches. Thanks. Laz :D
