  1. Any thoughts on my last post?? I should have said that I needed information from some that have the Oculus.
  2. OK, I can tell by the feedback that inside the cockpits, the vr is quite good. I would like your take on what it looks like outside...looking through the canopy glass.?? Also what is your impression of the outside views??? I remember when I purchased the Nvivia 3-d vision glasses and used them on a new 120hz monitor, inside the cockpit, the view was great, full 3-d....but looking outside again through the canopy, the 3-d image was a jumble of distortions and if I remember the outside view did not work in 3-d. 3. Sith, I posted this twice before but will try again.... "Am I going to get money back? I purchased the f5e and only used the 18.00 that automatically came up. I should have been able to use more of my original 58.00 bonus...... " Laz
  4. Sith, I posted this before but will try again.... " Am I going to get money back? I purchased the f5e and only used the 18.00 that automatically came up. I should have been able to use more of my original 58.00 bonus...... " Laz
  5. Right, but I would like some comments on other UHD tv/monitors that guys here are using. Asus is having a time of it with their monitor...and now a 120hz 4K...wish they would get their 60hz going better.
  6. All parts arrived for my new build. 2-1080's EVGA FTW, I7-6700K, Asus Z-170 Premium MB, EVGA-1200W Platinum PS, SSD 256GB Samsung 950 Pro M.2 NVM V-Nand, SSD#2 Samsung 500GB 850 EVO, 32GB RIPJAW DDR4-3200, Corsair H110-R Liquid Cooler, Trooper full tower case, HP DVD drive, Western Digital 2TB Black HD and a 4K Display Port to HDMI converter....... I would like to have a 40 to 50in UHD 240motion or 120, 3840-2160 ( I know that the best I can get for throughput is 60hz if I go with a tv type). The best monitors I have read about are 38in and the reports are not that good. Plus they cost more than their specifications are worth. IMHO. So what are your recommendations for a good display. I might add I do not want a VR Rift or similar unit as they are not advanced enough...maybe next generation...( I have the Nvidia 3-d glasses and a 120hz 22in monitor but DCS does not play on it as ED has not finished this 3-d feature that was announced yearsss ago.) 3-d in the cockpit is ok but outside view is bad. Real bad. I will try this again when ED completes the 1.5 to 2.0 integration. Laz :D
  7. Am I going to get money back? I purchased the f5e and only used the 18.00 that automatically came up. I should have been able to use more of my original 58.00 bonus......
  8. How do these other aircraft sim developers get permission to develop any type of aircraft that is or has been manufactured since 1901? I realize that many do not have the classified gear modeled but many have close approximant renderings. And these are sometimes 2 or 3 person teams. Just wondering. :D  :music_whistling: Laz
  9. Vietnam cause I was there....props, jets, helis, all types of terrain, aircraft carrier ops, etc. Laz
  10. DJ, The 6700K is newer by a year. Best processor now at this price for gaming. 4790K is somewhat faster but uses older LGA 1150. 6700K uses the newer 1151. Use LGA1151 for the ge-force 1080 and ddr4 memory. 4790 uses ddr3 memory. IIRC.
  11. So, Megohm what video card do you use to get non stutters with everything maxed out? Are you getting close to 100fps to support VR?
  12. Impalor, As I mentioned previously, I purchased a 120hz monitor to try the 3-D...long time ago...inside the cockpit was ok but looking outside the image was distorted completely. Several of us here tried but we gave up. ED was suppose to fix this but I never heard that they did. Time moved on and everyone forgot about the 3-D when talk of VR and the rift came along. So I don't know if ED fixed that problem or not. I have a 50in Panasonic plasma 3-D. I will give it a shot...wonder if the glasses that came with the tv will work correctly ? I do have the Nvidia glasses. Laz
  13. Guys, thanks for your info. Wreck, do you notice any lag from your controls to the response on your tv? Does DCS support 3-D...as in Nvidia 3-D vision? Yearrrrs ago I purchased a monitor120hz just to try it as I mentioned in my first post. DCS was working on this option...has anyone tried it again??? Lazduc
  14. If you change your vid card, I think you will have to disable all your DCS modules otherwise the starforce protection will kill all your modules...I think...best be safe than sorry.
  15. Ok, I am building a new computer. My intention is two 1080's driving a curve 55in 4k display. I would prefer a 50in. Suggestions?? I am not interested in VR as I know I would get ill vertigo, with the equipment that is currently available. Do the current 4k TV's have DVI inputs or does the 1080 have an hdmi output. Will the current 4k TV's ( I assume they all have 120hz..?) have the same resolution as a 4k monitor? Is there any difference between a 4k monitor and a 4k tv? A ways back when DCS was suppose to support 3-D I picked up an 120hz monitor and tried to get it to run....it kinda worked, the cockpit looked great but looking outside was distorted and I think several of us that tried it, finally gave up. This was using the glasses. But seeing that the new latest and greatest TV's (4k and 120hz) run at the required scan rate......will they work in 3-d... Also as I think about it, our regular tv is a 3-D type that you wear glasses to get the 3-D effect. Wonder if I input DCS and enabled the 3-D if that would work on my tv. The tv is a Panasonic. Let me know what you suggest. Thanks. :D Is ED going to support 3-D or did they give up? I know that DCS does not support SLI but several of my other gaming interests do. ( Several have mentioned that their SLI setups help somewhat but opinions vary on that.) Laz :imho:
  16. Not on any social networks...but please post here, when you get the chance. Would like to see what TM is up to.
  17. Here is what I have found....people's opinion on flight sticks is just that. Their opinion, which is very biased. I remember all the rave on the Warthog Hotas....turns out this expensive assembly has had more problems than your less expensive models. The most important part...the gimbal is the cheapest design they could have used. A nylon ball. And it fails continually. (Yes I have one unfortunately.) Spending 500.00 bucks on a device and having to repair, service and modify it, in some opinions, is very acceptable. For me it is absolutely not. important points. 1. How much time are you going to use the device? 2. How aggressive and how hard are you on it? 3. How much money do you want to spend? A lot of setups are plastic....they will not hold up to a lot of intense pressure. However you can probably purchase 3 to 5 of the less expensive items and they will last cumulatively, longer than one that costs an arm and leg. I have a X-55 rhino. I have not used it very much and I am very easy on my equipment. I have not experienced any problems with it. But I have not had any problems with my X-52, nor have I had any problems with my Logitech G-940. I have over the years purchased over 50 setups. My only advice is to figure out the money you want to spend.....For 100.00 bucks an X-52 for 200.00 X-55 and there are numerous others in between. These less expensive products are just that. You are not going to get a super-deluxe, metal based, hall sensor, ballbearing type setup for the lower price points. If you are really into flight simulators and intend to make sim flying a long time hobby....then it might be worth it too you to get a professional setup. But you will pay for those. If you decide to go this route, skip the Warthog from Thrustmaster....For the price, the design just is not there. If you want to really know about the rhino, order one and try it yourself. If you do not like it...send it back. Good luck. Lazduc
  18. I am also disappointed in the Warthog. I purchased it after listening to all the raves when it first came out. Then the failures started. Still a large choir of folks that were stuck 550.00 still insisted that the TM Wart was the best thing since sliced bread. I guess its hard to swallow that you just blew a lot of money on a over-hyped-over priced-poorly designed, software challenged, quality control joke. Mine still sits in the closet. I installed the newest firmware. I hooked it up and fired up A-10C. It was suppose to be plug and play....I would say more than half the controls did not operate....I unplugged it and put it in the closet....I guess it been about 2-3 years. I thought after all the hype and money spent I was not about to spend time configuring this item. I have purchased numerous other Hotas controls and got pretty much what I had thought and did not feel like I got ripped off....the warthog by tm....I still wince when I think about it.
  19. Thanks for the info.
  20. I would like to see a list of Titles and versions of all ED's and 3rd party modules that are considered "Out of Beta". :D I do not want to have to repair new builds/versions etc. I do not have time nor do I want to spend time trying to get software to run correctly. :music_whistling: If ED releases a upgrade to a title that is out of beta then I would think that upgrade release would not introduce bugs. Since the 3rd party developers submit their products to ED so ED can iron out any bugs that may conflict with ED's latest version of World, one would be confident that releases would be bug free....mostly. So it appears until DCS World/Edge is stable then all modules are at the mercy of this. Your thoughts and possible titles/version numbers/1.5xxxx/2.0xx that are stable and do not require repairing or continual fixes.....other than a upgrade that will be stable...upgrade meaning more and better content and perhaps a few minor bug fixes that have somehow slipped through.:smilewink: :D Laz
  21. All my builds have been with I7. The I7 is a more powerful processor. Its design leads to better performance in many applications. Jacking up a I5 to keep up with an I7 is money not well spent. Putting in another 2-300 bucks into a I5 system so it can do the same processing as the same generation I7 is counterproductive. Get the fastest I7 you can afford. Its like...I will get this 283cu in engine cause its 300 bucks cheaper....then put headers, better manifold, larger carb, better ignition, nitrous, bored, stroked, etc and spend all that money so you can get the performance of a stock 427 that would have cost you 500-600 to start and blow the doors off your hopped up 283.
  22. Hardware is always evolving. I have read the next generation of video cards will have much faster gpu's and will have at least 16gb of memory to match the upcoming video displays. Your component list is right on the cutting edge...I also recommend a 1200 watt power supply. Get 32gb of memory. Get a 480gb ssd. Actually get two ssd's. Unless you are a super audiophile type I would not get a sound card....several reasons for this..slows transfers on pci-e bus of other system resources that are also on the pci-e bus and the onboard sound is just as good as any sound card...except the very high end cards. You wont have to replace any components in 3 months except possibly your video card due to the already mentioned issues. Purchasing another 980ti to keep up with the newest hardware/software video wise will not help you with DCS...again as DCS does not support SLI. Use the search function on this site and lookup the performance and issues with the latest video cards. The things is your displays...the larger they are and the higher the resolution the more powerful the video card requirements. DCS for the most part is still in what is referred to as beta. ED, Eagle Dynamics, has upgraded their software with a component called EDGE. ED is still in the process of taming this beast. That is why I say to not use DCS as a base to make your decisions on hardware for your new system. Numerous users are having trouble with video stuttering. There are a number of opinions on what is causing this...its still up in the air. Several of the super high end system users have expressed differing resolutions as they seem to have little trouble. Again you can search for this information here. DCS is single threaded...it will only take advantage of one core of your microprocessor. Sound runs separately on its own thread. DCSWorld is the base program and has the new graphics engine, which is in beta...so all the other modules must adapt to this...and this is ongoing...so we end up with a lot of changes and await a lot of repairs/fixes. There are 2 or 3 versions of this. Eventually ED plans on combining the two base programs into one. So, its hard to say what will finally be needed to run DCS and what DCS will have as enhancements that will require better hardware to run smoothly. Good luck and if you need any help with the new system...lots of folks here including myself have experience building their systems and will be glad to offer any help. Lazduc
  23. What with new video cards coming very shortly and the idea of matching VR and 4k monitors video requirements with these, I would wait before purchasing the 980ti. I've read where the need will be for at least 16gb of video ram to satisfy these new monitors and VR headsets. Also of course the fast GPU's to feed the video. I was going to build another gamming rig but I am going to wait as I think the new hardware coming soon will need the new video systems to run. I just do not want to build a 3000.00 system and not have it run the new 4k at 100fps monitors. SLI will not help as DCS does not support it...but supposedly may in the future...who knows? Unless you have unlimited budget, purchase now and then have to purchase in 3-4 months is not justifiable to many. I will not build a machine specific to DCS as their requirements are rather ambiguous IMHO. I have in the past and after waiting for announced specific improvements like sli support and EDGE , I wasted money purchasing two video cards.
  24. What is this? DCS 1.5.3.51218 goes to public with upper changelog. Does this mean this is the released version? And this will be joined with 2.0.xx? And will this include the new engine with support for SLI? :D
  25. Big Newy, I cannot remember where I read that but it is there somewhere on this site. I read it while trying to make sense of all this....read my other posts on chit chat. While researching for those posts I read that about not using the updater....
