  1. Doesn't adding ram trigger the alarm and stop the program?
  2. This means 32GB to 64GB memory and a 2080ti along with 2X 2tb ssd to run this program with decent resolution without the studders. And least I forget a I9-9900 or better. This is not a poor man's sport. About 4000.00 just for what's mentioned. With all the other components you want/need you will have 8000.00 or more invested. The days of the 3000.00 computer to run DCS with low settings which provided minimal visual quality are over. Sony is coming out with a new console to run VR and the latest at 4k resolutions. I would imagine it will be in the 800.00 to 1000.00 range. Probably use AMD chips. Maybe DCS will be ported over to this..? Laz
  3. I have 46.00 bonus bucks. How much of it can I use for the F-14? Laz:D
  4. CYPH3R, 1000 units..but how many got to the USA? 3 sections that take orders. Your "Rest of World" section could include over 100 country's. Divide that into your 3 sections. If each unit received 330..? The number of users in flight sims is probably more than 3 per country. If you guys manufactured 3times what you have just done....well that is 9 per country. That leaves us with the question, "When you announce that you have stock which might be 2 or 3 of each item, how much time do I have to order?" Especially if you announce and its in the middle of night here and I wont be awake for 6-8 more hours?..? Glad you sold out. Hire an experienced business manager with some of the funds. New business with a fast growth and sketchy plans usually fail. Don't be one of them. Chasing sales estimates with JIT (just in time) inventory control is a sure fire way to go down in flames. Good luck. My two cents. Laz
  5. Being in stock for 2 hours. Is this a joke? How many units constitute, " Store has been restocked guys!" Maybe 1 or 2 units. Returns perhaps? You build 2 or 3 and announce back in stock, sell them and this is your business model? I give up.
  6. Xilon-X Well done. I remember it well. Reason I purchased my Amiga 1000.
  7. Mark, Since you don't have cable you will have to get something like Hughes Net or some other satellite internet service. The only way to get the software from ED ( The company that makes this software) is download from them. Come to think about it, I believe some guys may be using DSL phone line. But it is unbearably slow. Someone who uses DSL can way-in on this. Your computer will not be able to run this software without a few changes. You will need a Nvidia 1070 or equivalent or better video card. You also did not mention how much memory you have. You will need 32gb, gigabytes...not megabytes. Although SAS drives are fast, they are not fast enough. You will need a 250gb solid state drive for the operating system. Then you will need a 500gb solid state drive (called SSD) for the programs. Also I do not think your SAS controller will run solid state drives. Get the fastest SATA solid state drives. Do not get the M-2 type as your system does not have the interfaces for that type. Get all the software from E-Shop on the DCS website. Do not purchase from Steam. You will need Windows 10 Pro. You will need DCS World...which is free on DCS which also includes 2 free aircraft and one free map. Caucus area map. The F-18 is at this point and time NOT ready. It is in a state of what is considered Alpha or numerous bugs and missing features. The version you purchase now is a pre-released type and is only offered if you want to help in the bug hunt. The F-14 is available to purchase now but you wont be able to actually get it until ? Its been forecast in several more weeks. It is suppose to be a finished product when released. Pre purchased now saves 10.00. I know that the videos show what seems like finished products but they are not at this point. Some of the titles are finished. Some are somewhat finished but still need attention by the developers. There is an option which is called Flaming Cliffs 3 which contains 6 finished modules and are much easier to learn. The other titles are referred to as Study Sims. They are full-blown simulators that try to be as close as possible to the real thing, including all systems etc.. Also there is reported to be an additional couple of aircraft, again FC3 (Flaming Cilffs 3) type and not the Study Sim type to be added to the FC3 title module. You will also need a hotas controller...with pedals. Also depending on the video card you choose, will determine the display you will want. The study sim modules are very intensive and quite a learning curve. The FC-3 type is much easier to learn and I am sure you will enjoy them immensely. If you are into helicopters, the black shark is finished and fun and also not too difficult to learn....course its a helicopter...hard to fly at first....losts of practice. And refueling with the jets is also a learning curve. Landing on a carrier is also a challenge. There are numerous acronyms that will be confusing. Some of the modules can be flown but you should use the Stable Version. There are two platforms you can download. These are the base program and all the modules synchronize with it. The base program is as mentioned in two forms. One is called Stable...that you will want. The other is called Beta and is the one that is still being worked on but you can purchase those titles but they are not finished and the idea is to help track bugs. You should be proficient in software development to a degree and be able to submit reports as you find them while operating the Beta versions. To add more to this....this community is quite helpful but some of the advice sometimes should be considered before committing. Some of the hardware I mentioned should be thought over. It really takes a fast computer to run this. It would be quite expensive to just start out. I would think with all the hardware and software needed you will be looking at around 2000.00 for a medium system that will run this. If you look at the bottom of many of the posts here, the guys usually list their system specifications. Many here have invested 4-8 thousand bucks. But others have enjoyed this without all the bells and whistles and super-computers. You can look at the recommended specifics. By the way you do have a super-type-computer. Unfortunately it is a workstation type and does not run gaming software. It is for development and cad work which it is very capable of doing. The video cards you have are also only for that type work and they do very poorly at gaming. Again they are made for workstation tasks not gaming. Hope this helps. Another ole timer. Lazduc
  8. Please don't encourage ED to try and make changes to the graphic engine. Edge t-5 t-6 t-8 or what they are currently up to and the lighting etc. Now vulkan? May I remind you of how long these changes take. Then every aircraft has to be updated and the maps and then a boot full of bugs and fixes and changes and the list goes on. How do they keep up with the constant changes? I would like to see all parties catch up their models to the current (whatever that is) version number and have all of the products I have purchased become released, with all the promised features and fixes. Awaayyaaa think that will ever happen lol. How many modules that have been coded in the last, hmmmmm 10 years have been finished? Seems like the current software development status is put out a offer of Pre-alpha and lots of hype followed by a broken alpha version and then 2-3 year waiting period as several excuses and more hype about how great the next version will be and all the mind-bending features that will be added. Then another year or so and the alpha version with a huge announcement will be presented but only as a (whats the next version after alpha called, can't seem to keep up with all the jargon they call all the versions.) Pre-early access? and the beat goes on. LOL I have heard all the explanations. By the way I do not see the F-14 listed in the E shop. With all the ho ray about this I would think I would have seen, heard or mind melded about this. But nada. Anyway have a great Halloween or what ever your flavor is. Laz..grouchy as ever.
  9. I gotta chime in. Every time I have tried and its been numerous times, I find almost all of their products are "NO stock available". I will not go to their supposedly "New and Improved" website again. Same story and I checked yesterday...Out Of Stock.
  10. Shipping is as big of a joke as the availability of products from VIRPIL.
  11. Now is this update a stable version or the beta and next week will be ported to the stable?
  12. On your post: "You must be present at VUAF 2018 (October 20/21) to claim your prize, shall you be selected." It is indicated in RED. Gives the impression as Joca133 mentions, you have to be there. You might want to change the wording. The terms and conditions are placed in a awkward manner, some may not go that far to investigate this. Again on the VUAF web site it states: "You must be present at VUAF 2018 (October 20/21) to claim your prize, shall you be selected. " This time it is not highlighted in red. But you must search for the terms and conditions button...if you are that curious and many find that reading the "small print" in these give-aways is usually a 10 page ordeal and must have a law degree to decipher it. IMHO Laz :D
  13. Hey Doc NevSmith, Single player for me. Grew up in the 40's and 50's, we didn't have a phone. We had a radio. I had many, many, many, friends. We were outside most of the time. Suppose to be home by dark. Biggest punishment was being made to stay inside..... Laz :D
  14. Firebird, I too have been frustrated by the lack of answers from ED's and other developers. Although probably well intention, guesses and opinions and statements of support such as: "Its a work in progress, new video cards should fix your problem (how does he know?), have more patience, just a little longer, and the usual litany of useless remarks, lend one to not post any questions here. Not worried about every little thing among the lot of little things just a simple acknowledgment concerning abnormalities that have been highlighted numerous times without input from the developer. If my remarks have somehow stepped on someone's foot.......move your foot. It isn't so much of running out of patience but running out of time. Laz Old grouch.
  15. Anyone with any information?
  16. Have any of the users of the 1080Ti installed a water cooler? I have 2 EVGA 1080Ti and just purchased 2 EVGA water cooler/blocks. Just curious how difficult the installation of the kits will be. And if you have done this do you have any tips you can share? Laz :D
  17. How many people could tell the difference between real and fictional map of an area that has no identifying labels? Half of this simulator is make-believe, fill in the gaps with your imagination and has never been completely accurate. Laz
  18. ED is making FC type aircraft. Perhaps their goal is too make these and maps that do not take the better part of a decade to code. Trying to code for the latest API with current software has added another layer of time consuming work. ED is also trying to use the Vulkan API which also adds another layer. From what I have read, ED has an enormous amount on their plate. They are trying to add more staff. Adding anything new at this time is unreasonable. Developing software that is Pre-Released Alpha style which is released only for those who have time and patience to bug-hunt/troubleshoot this software, leads IMHO to think that this is a big turn-off for new customers who think the software is so full of bugs and problems, its not worth buying. Labeling software as Beta, is also an indication that it is not finished and turns off potential customers. Its great to see new aircraft but many of the systems are not ready and maps are unfinished. It takes 2 to 6 months and sometimes years to get a finished product. And you guys are wanting new maps/aircraft? Let ED stitch together what they have now.
  19. Long shot..since it is only you...a virus?
  20. You will need to upgrade your system and get a 12inch monitor at 480x220.
  21. The device is called USB Flystick in the Device and Settings file. Laz
  22. That's the one. I like it. The joystick is very sensitive. I haven't set it up yet. Just in the trial version of DCS and the P-51. I am waiting for the fix for the binding problems. For the price it may be better than the TM 16000 set up. But this is my first impression...I do not want to pronounce it as the greatest thing since the Warthog, which we all remember. Everyone who purchased one swore by it..stating it was fantastic and a gift from the gods and they could not find nothing absolutely nothing wrong with it. They recommended it higher than anything in the universe and super encouraged everyone to jump on the band wagon. (The only thing I want to recommend is too keep breathing.) Fast forward several months from TM HOG release date....and find on this blog we have a long subsection on the Bricked Thrustmaster counting section....and the wonderful stiction problem that Thrustmaster continues to have. From what I have read they will use the same sticky ball on their next product. Go Figure. Laz (Words of Wit and Wisdom from Ole Grouchy) :D
  23. I would consider a different Asus motherboard. ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero or ASUS ROG Maximus X Code or ASUS ROG Maximus X Apex. Overclocking on the Asus Strix is problematic.
  24. AspenGrey, You wrote," As a public relations professional (Not marketing- not my area!), this situation piqued my interest as an excellent case scenario for training, and I decided to write up my own opinion on how something like this could, potentially, be handled." You are a new member, you post a proposal not to actually find/present a solution to a problem but to elicit information for your own personal satisfaction, mainly justifying your opinions. You've successfully wasted everyone's time except your own. This forum has numerous avenues to present your communications/questions/complaints/advice etc. Your concerns have been addressed ad nauseum. Next time come with a solution for the MP servers. It would have been more appropriate in this forum had you a degree in computer science/networking/ aeronautical engineering/ instead of Public Affairs-Public Relations as touted in your original post. Although fitting in this context, it hardly brings anything worthwhile, except a few humorous posts. We, I, do not come here to ascertain how better too "handle" situations in addressing opinions to the Developers/Administers in a more aprepo mannerism. All of your suggestions have been beaten to death already. Yes, I am a grouchy old man. And take this post as a grain of sand, as I have taken yours. :smilewink: Laz :D
  25. Just arrived guys and girls. Cobra Hotas. 7 axis, 32 programmable buttons, Hall sensors, very heavy joystick base with very light movement, very smooth, almost too light, but very accurate. The throttle is very light but works well and also has Hall sensors. I have tried it and found I like it. There a a few drawbacks but I can live with them. This joystick won't tire out your wrist. Best part is it was only $150.00.....plus outrageous shipping from Canada to the US. Took 14 days and cost $60.00. Remind me to just drive up next time. 3 hours to Vancouver Canada from where I live...Vancouver, Washington. Laz :D
