  1. I thought this would be a lot better than it seems to be. I'll look forward to reading some reviews about this , but I have to say, it doesn't look like all that much of an upgrade from the X52/Pro. We'll see.
  2. I've just bought two 256 840 Pro SSDs for my system that's currently only using one 128GB 830 SSD for the OS. For me, it's about keeping the OS simply for audio applications and the main OS and usual apps, incase this goes down I don't need to worry about the reinstall as I usually save docs to a secondary HDD and/or an external drive as a backup. When I have these two extra SSDs one will be for audio/photoshop work and the other, Steam games and DCS, for example, to eventually allow me to get rid of my HDDs. This will leave me with one 1TB drive that's for random stuff, films, photos, downloads etc, things that will take a lot of writes that I don't necessarily want eating in to the SSD life (although they seemingly last long enough) and files that don't exactly benefit from any performance boost, like playing films or music. It's really a habit from the old days of separating HDDs so that one can do its job whilst the other does, not after that job has finished. For audio work this was absolutely necessary so that if windows started doing whatever it wanted to do, it wouldn't hinder the performance of the audio files being read from a different disk. WIth SSD, this isn't necessary and it makes very little difference with regards to performance, but when it comes to backing up data, organisation and my own OCD, it helps me to have dedicated drives for specific purposes.
  3. Build quality - Topre, Filco, WASD Bells n whistles, Ducky, CM, Corsair, Razer Depending on what you want, have a good look, and also try and hands on with one, to get a feel for the Cherry Switches. You can find tester kits to try individual keys. Personally I hhear bad stories about Corsair LEDs blwing and that's a hassle I don't want. I'd choose Ducky if you want a quality LED keyboard, if not LED, and you're looking for great quality, check out Topre, Filco and WASD, maybe Das as well. I don't care for Macros and so on but I'd imaigne them to be quite useful for gaming, especially DCS. I love my Filco Majestouch 2 with brown keys, though and can easily recommend it as a great quality, solid feeling mechanical keyboard. Brown keys for me felt the best with their tactile response and not too noisy.
  4. Merry Chirstmas, all! All the best
  5. 1200W PSU would be OTT. You really only need a 650W maybe even less would suffice. At most, if SLi or OC in future you would only need to add another 200W max to the PSU. I have a 770 and a Be Quiet Pro 10 PSU at 650W. Perfectly stable The efficiency of an PSU is around thr 50% mark but remember if you use an unnecessrily high wattage PSU it's idle efficiency can be fairly poor, so when you're not gaming you'll find that the PSU could draw more power than a lesser (in wattage) PSU might. Also, if EDGE doesn't use my PC efficiently and suffers performance problems I'll be lowering settings/dissapointed/waiting a lot longer to upgrade so that I can be sure that the next generation of stuff can handle it way better than this current spec. That could take some time. With no evidence as to how EDGE will perform, I'd get the best you can for the money you're willing to spend and if necessary you can upgrade by selling the stuff on at a cost that doesn't hit you as hard as it might when trying to buy the best/newest components at a later date. I'll leave that up to you... Personally, if DCS EDGE doesn't perform well on my spec then I'd worry for DCS as there are, I'm sure, many people who would like to play this sim, when updated, with their current specs that may be a lot older, and not everyone will be able to upgrade. I'm fairly confident that DCS EDGE won't necessitate this to the extent that is being touted. I know, I know... Meh.... We'll see!
  6. I've heard it's the same. I use eVGA precision X. It's a BIOS issue with these cards. This is the reply I've got from eVGA: unfortunately we don´t offer the fanspeed unlocker BIOS for your product, but I will forward your request to our engineers and product manager; if I got a feedback I will contact you. Not the best reply I've had...
  7. THat's the question I wants answered I've done...Yeh, have a look at your card, on the circuit board part near the top middle. There is a switch.. http://www.evga.com/articles/00767/ Switch the top one, when PC is off and unplugged. Reboot. Now, download the correct BIOS, click the flash. I heard a beep and it said compatible card found. Flashed and now my minimum is 28% Much better If I get an answer from EVGA I'll report but if I were you I'd register ya card if ya haven't already and ask like I have.
  8. Hmm , what spec is your PSU? I wouldn't count that PSU out....just yet. Ideally I would replace that PSU with something good in any case.
  9. Hi, If you buy this card be aware that the minimum fan speed is set to a default of 41%. This makes it quite loud. There is a BIOS on softpedia that is compatible for these cards and others and for mine has set it to a minimum of 28%. Much better I'm in contact now with eVGA to see if they can offer me a BIOS as I want it from the source. Just a heads up. Not sure if it's the same with other makes.

  11. I'd be willing to bet that it's unnecessary to upgrade to 16GB but more necessary to check the stability of your OC. Have you ran memcheck86+ and a prime95 run with your OC?
  12. Cool, cheers, PeterP So...I see..Bring on 1.2.7 and a hopeful fix to these issues, then. I only bought it to see what it's like. Never played BS with FFB and really wanna see the trim react properly. I'm waiting for the X55 to make a judgement on whether to buy that, CH products or maybe a TM. Gonna be skint...
  13. Hey all. Just bought myself a Sidewinder 2 on eBay for 25 quid and I'm wondering what I should look out for from other users. I have seen the post about the swap axis thing to make FFB work. WHat tips do others use if they still have their Sidewinder2? I'm guessing I could do with a throttle. I'm selling my X52Pro on eBay currently and I think I may wait for the X55. However, are CH products that much better than an X52Pro or is it worth waiting or going for something else? I'm sure the Warthog would be great but I rarely play A10 and I'm wanting to get back in to the game what with EDGE coming soon. I'm still not overly confident of the build quality with the warthog and even then I'm not so sure about the TM. I hope the X55 has a FFB version! Wonder how much it will retail for. I'm guessing 150 GBP
  14. I'd gamble on the GPU failing. Knockl it down by a few clocks and see if the issue goes away and yes, as mentioned check temps. What type of card do you have? I've an EVGA and precision X lets you know all teh details you'd need. I thnink MSI afterburner would also be good to downclock and check temps and that's a highly recommended toold for OC'ing GPUs.
  15. Yeh I had some issues and went back to firefox,...new update seems a bit better for crashes tho and it does feel nice and fast. I think it's worth keeping an eye on or trying if anyone hasn't already.
  16. Heh Python I kinda agree.:) Hey let us know how ya get on with it. I will probably get a Ducky SHine 3 at some future point as I do like the look of their boards with the LEDs and I suppose it's nice to have, yup...at night...I'm not a bad typist tho so I can generally feel my way around but ya have a good point. ANd yeh I'd go for teh black aluminium version with red leds and brown keys!!
  17. Yeh heard about topre...just a bit tooo much for me.. One day may get one to see what it's all about About K70 , well for me I would probably go for one but LEDs scare me and just seem like I'd be destined for trouble.. I also think they'd be distracting if on, lighting up WASD might make sense but why not just get coloured keys. It's all subjective obviously...for LED keyboards I was eventually considering the logitech 710+ and the Ducky Shine 3. Both look nice For Corsair, altho a great brand, I wonder whether they need a bit more experience in this market?? I dunno, other than that I hear good things about their supprt, but then again, bad things about their support for the K70..ALtho I responded to a post on anandtech about someone's experience. He seems to have been lamenting about how terrible they are as a company, which isn't true,. I'd just stear clear of the possibility of eventually having an expensive keyboard that has a few blown leds and I'd think to myself, why didn't I just get a really high quality LEDless keyboard with some custom coloured keys.
  18. The K70 is suffering a lot of LED problems but, it looked nice. I'm glad I got my Filco tho..It feels so good to use. I think the brown keys were the right choice for me. Plus, I jazzed mine up with red WASD keys....altho as it's a ninja keyboard (blank keys apart from the front side) it looks great just all black. Considering getting some custom keys from WASD keyboards...I can see it becoming slightly addictive..well, for a short while.
  19. Anyone use waterfox?
  20. That they'll be busy working on EDGE. He hopes.
  21. Yeah it feels great to type on. ARMA feels nice to play. Lot o money and feel like a moron for spending so much on it tho.. THis thing is built like a brick so I can see it lasting a long time. Overall pretty pleased. I think I made the right choice with brown keys, too.
  22. So I just ordered a Filco Majestouch 2 Ninja with brown cherry keys. Will report back tomorrow when it arrives to give my opinions. I didn't really want anything with lights or macros, although the macros would have helped a little with DCS, I've managed without so far. Will let you know. The Keyboard Company in the UK offered me great support and if I return it in A1 condition then they're happy to refund if I change my mind. Looking forward to testing.
  23. I was originally dubious about the need for a mechanical keyboard but certainly it seems like a good upgrade and one of those things that once you've experienced it you won't want to go back. I'll have a little think and next pay day I'll probably get the Corsair K70. I just need to try and determine what cherry key I'll be happy with. GOnna try and find somewhere to test this weekend. Thanks for your thoughts! Helpful, cheers!
  24. Are they worth it? I'm looking at the Corsair K70 after reading and looking about on youtube. CM seem to make some good ones, too. I've never tried Red/Brown/Black/Blue cherry MX switches but it would seem that red are most common but tailored for gamers whereas brown seem to be the middle ground that a few recommend. Some feedback and thoughts on this would be cool. 120 pounds for a keyboard, though...jeesh... I suppose I should say what I like about the K70. It's the update of the not fully mechanical K60. Over others, it's because I have a reasonable trust with Corsair, there are the multimedia shortcuts that CM don't offer. Ducky, I don't know much about but also seem to lack those features that Corsair has.
  25. Hi. I gave a copy of my BS2 upgrade to forum member IanHenry and he's just told me that you're not answering any of his support requests to transfer the license to his account. I appreciate these forums and help others out when I can. I paid for the full version of BS2 to get myself out of the BS-BS2 upgrade steps. Now, can you please sort out transferring my gift to IanHenry and answer his support tickets, please?
