Should we keep the autopilot and weapons hint display?
Vlerkies replied to EvilBivol-1's topic in DCS: UH-1H
Not a bad idea, and if the co-pilot dies, the function should not be avialable (if it isnt like that already, I have stayed away from people that shoot at me for now :) ) -

Should we keep the autopilot and weapons hint display?
Vlerkies replied to EvilBivol-1's topic in DCS: UH-1H
What the boss is referring to here is the yellow text on the screen, not the autopilot itself. Personally I turned it off as soon as I figured out how. -
Nice flying I think a large part of where you set the cyclic curve depends on the controller you are using. Using the hog hotas I started with the defaults, i think 30, then moved them to 40 cause fealt it was way to sensitive. This caused its own set of problems with me having to move the stick more in its axis to get response and then in the opposite direction again, ended up chasing it all the time, inducing oscillations. I have now gone completely the other way and am currently ok with a curve of 10. The hotas is not smooth off the cetner, like a U2nxt cougar, or the saitek sticks. It requires some extra force to move it and as such you cant just manipulate it with 2 fingers, which I have always found irritating. Gonna mod the springs for sure.

Well you all did a cracking job, and thanks. I finally migrated from flying circuits and hit the range, opened the gunners doors and wow!

maybe

I took the one take off mission and changed in the mission editor added full fuel and and weps, and it gets it to 99% of max weight. In chickenhawk they pushed it a fair bit past max weight though with extra soldiers.

(manual out the window) :music_whistling: Here's my current state of an imaginary hot LZ for extraction. Aiming for the white gravel square on the airfield. My first attempt would have seen the poor grunts getting shot to pieces crossing a lot of open ground. Thats the army for ye. :smilewink: 2nd one a bit better.

JUst checked it now myself on the startup tutorial. When you give power/rpms, as they increase the switch moves itself back to the on position.
-
Cruise speed for this airframe is 90-120 knots. You can go more but then she start to moan a bit.
-
You can turn it off during startup to turn off the low rpm audio alarm. It seems that when everything is running the switch is back in the on position. (you dont seem to have to turn it on) You can see it in this dudes vid At about 3 minutes he finds the switch to turn it off. After you increase to full power it seems to be on again, a good thing. At about 4:30 he tries to flick it off again but can't

Lol Well I wanted to practice washing my Huey post mission. So like in Chickenhawk I hit a hover over a little stream, prefectly, and proceeded to gently sink my skids to the water so that the cleaning crew could get to work. The minute my skids touched the water, BOOM hahahaha.
-
Yeah same here, also saw it in one of the youtube vids so pretty sure its std.
-
I woulda paid double ;)
-
Have you flicked the low rpm warning switch on and off to see what happens?

Thanks wess

Well done sorcer3r Felt like i was in the no.2 seat holding onto the Hand Holds for dear life to brace myself for impact there watching that  , but you pulled it off proper! :clap_2:

Its tough mate. What I seem to have so far. Keep your rate of decent to around the 250fpm mark to give you room to correct. You can bleed a lot of excess or unwanted speed in turning to finals with the bank and easing off on the collective while maintaining alt. I reckon this is going to be quite useful when getting into a hot LZ, a few months down the line when hopefully I don't wash out :) Always make sure you land into the wind, even if its a gentle breeze. WATCH the airpeed and rate of decent. Airspeed: if you keep that sucker just over 20 knots you wont fly like an anvil. Anything over 20 and she seems to do ok, even with decent rate over 500fpm its not freefall. Beyond that is where she falls like a stone. (vrs or transition to hover or both, dunno?) I'm trying to approach with a goal airspeed of +- 30 knots, slowly ease off the collective while increasing the pitch, to bleed if necessary. For me, that 20 knot mark seems to be the make or break parameter where the Huey will move/transition to a hover. I find that if I can manage my rate of decent with collective inputs when it crosses this 'airspeed barrier', I stand a better chance at least. Excuse my non pilot terminology :) I'm way off being proficient at this but maybe it will help.

Cyclic jerky after engine startup
Vlerkies replied to Mt5_Roie's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Just looked at some of my recorded flights, and despite them mostly ending in tears the cyclic is smooth, displaying only the inputs I am making. Have you checked your controllers (cyclic axes) in the axis tune? If its bouncing around their that's a dirty pot issue perhaps? -
I just have std 2.1 sound but to me its really nice. Pump up the volume and let the woofer work that whoop whoop whoop  Have a new Xonar STX soundcard (not installed), just waiting for my Senneheiser headsets to arrive then I am going to crank it properly :)

Some people like red cars, other blue. I like my workhorse Huey more than my Shark but that just me, some other people may think differently. For me it feels really great flying it. I know its new, but the novelty won't wear off for me, I will fly this thing forever.

+100! It's easy to fly when your up there, the transitions though are quite challenging and the sense of accomplishment on getting it right after many many attempts is well worth it. I havent so much as even dared to even consider flying missions or anything like that yet. Just practicing and practicing the very basics and trying to understand the physics of it all. Slowly getting used to it, flights are getting smoother each time and have an idea of what to look at, monitor and when during things like transition to landings. The Huey gives you enough warning and if you recognise the signs your on your way. If you don't she bites hard and boom. I have all the DCS modules. I love my A-10, the Hog is top class, and the Huey is top of its class from a helo perspective. But hey thats just my opinion.

Thats not bad at all, the level of panic is equal to that of my normal landings under power hehe

Landings the challenge for sure. Take offs, look for Furia's youtube vid, great advice there. She will yaw right from torque and want to go nose over to the right slightly as you increase the collective. In Furias vid he demonstrates it nicely, you can trim the cyclic left and back a bit before you take off which minimises input required when you lift off.

Yeah man, those guys were flying something like 4 hours actual flight time a day for months in training iirc from the book. My logbook tells me I have 3.5 hours in the UH-1H. Lots more work ahead
